DR Who-Sonic Design Competition (winners announced)

Great news guys. Russrep has generously agreed to step in as a replacement judge. :)

I trust he meets with the approval of the entrants as he is certainly no stranger to prop making or in fact sonic screwdrivers themselves. :thumbsup

Thank you Russ!

Welcome aboard Russ, and I do thank you for your time, as my first mate has indicated, and I quote, "no stranger to prop making or in fact sonic screwdrivers themselves". end of quote.

I do feel any hr now we will be seeing the winning sonic, and the beginning of some sleepless nights for myself :lol. :cry

Alright!

Home from work and kids are in bed so let's do this. :D

THANK YOU Everyone who participated! All of the designs were creative and picked out different aspects from the series. It was a joy to be your host. However, there are only prizes for the top three so after tallying the scores from our three judges we have the following winners!

FIRST PLACE: Doctor49152 - 11 points

They win a prototype manufactured by Rassilon s/n 00 to the winner’s dimensional specifications, and mounted in a display, with a brass nameplate located at the base of the display. Yet to be designed. They will also get workshop manufacturing drawings to there design, on A3 paper. To make the winning sonic a reality may involve some slight changes to the design. Rassilon will work with the winner to produce something as true as possible to the drawing.
Value: $1,000

SECOND PLACE: Jedibugs - 7 points

They will receive a Human Dalek Tommy Gun built by Rassilon to the specifications of Catfoodrob's pdf designs.
Value: $475

THIRD PLACE: NTBBCD - 6 points

They will receive a Rassilon assembly drawing of the TYJ design Tardis in 3D on A1 size paper.
Value: $ 125

Many other sonics had points from judges, there was quite a pack of 4's & 3's. You should all be proud!

I will be sending a PM to our winners shortly to get them in touch with Rassilon. If any of the judges are brave enough to post their individual lists & thoughts they are welcome to but I take no responsibility for the fans tearing you apart. :lol

Thanks again to Rassilon for starting the contest and footing all the prizes. There are some really lucky folks here today!

Excellent,,,,,,,, and congratulations to the winners and also congratulations to the members that also entered as well.

I do look forward in working with the first placeholder over the coming months to get there sonic prototype build as close as I can to the concept drawing as possible.

It’s been fun and I do hope to be able to repeat this contest next year.

For me this is the biggest treat. Really looking forward to what you come up with!

Congratulations to the winners. To Rassilon; sucks to be you!!! They picked a really hard one. Seriously though all the entries were great!!

Congratulations, Doctor49152 and NTBBCD! I was really impressed by both your designs. I'm really happy to be grouped with you two.

There were a lot of other great designs that I really loved as well. Everyone did a great job and this whole thing was a lot of fun. Thanks so much to the judges.

-- Reading this over for spelling and grammar I realize it's a rather long message. You'd think I won an Oscar after reading it. Sorry --

WOW!! This is has made me extremely happy! I've never really won anything before. Oh this also appears to be my 20th post on therpf too!! no more newbie parole!! Happy day!!

I just want to thank all the judges for all the time and effort they put into this contest. I can't imagine it was easy. There were many times I looked at the other entries and thought that they would be the winning entry and not me.

I also want to thank Orange_Blend for looking after the contest. It has been an very exciting month with a stressful past week for me waiting for the results I can only imagine what he mist be going through.

And a HUGE thanks to Rassilon for offering his time and serious skills in trying to make me design a reality!! I have already been working on ripping my design apart into smaller parts. I hope I can make his life a lot easier. I've just started playing in the world of CNC lathing myself. Just really small test things at the moment to figure things out (not going very well either). While I don't have the skills myself I do have an understanding of the mechanical complexity that my design has. For that I am sorry in advance!! I am quite happy to have someone with your talent and skill making it real.

To my fellow contestants I want to say a big thank you and sorry as well. There were some really awesome designs. If possible I'd like to try to translate some of the other designs into 3D models? I know it won't be the same as actually having one in your hands in the end but its the least I can offer. Mainly because there are some wicked designs that I would have liked to have seen made a reality (after my own of course)

Now to come up with a better name for it than the Doctor49152 screwdriver!! Can we call it we 'Interocitor Sonic'? Has a nicer ring and easier to remember :)

Again a big thank you to everyone.

YAY!! Now I do the dance of Joy!!

I sincerely hope that some of these designs still end up getting made. Now that the contest is over I can let slip that I particularly like the logical transition that Organic Mechanic's entry presents. Make that sonic OM!
