Does anyone have pics of Jeff Parks' Mara Jade saber?

It depends on what you mean by your request.

He only made and sold 5 exact replicas (I own one) off the radar of as the one he built for the CCG. He then changed some elements when he later posted them on his website (longer hilt, little holes in the emitter, etc..).. Then later when he changed the technology he also changes some some of the production methods such as milling the hilt grips instead of individual plates.

Here is one of the original 5.

The certificate below is one of a kind. After I bought the lightsaber from Jeff, I created the Certificate and asked him if he would sign it. Not only did he do it, but he also offered to take it to a upcoming convention and have Shannon Baksa (maiden name) and Timothy Zahn sign it.

Do you happen to know what Jeff used for the pommel? It doesn’t look like an obiwan pommel but similar. Trying to find one like it.

It's just a sort of end cap. Parks made most of his hilt back then using stock tubing of various diameters. In this case he used a smaller diameter of the lower grip section that slides inside. Looks like he beveled the edge and milled lines up the sides so you can see some spacing at the bottom. And it looks like he used some sort of stock plug to cap it off. It stays in place with the brass thumbscrew.

If anyone was looking, it looks like Korbanth/ELF sell a spot on replica of the Parks saber, down to the spiral design on the gold thumbscrew and the spaces under the control box. I think the only thing missing is some washers under the grip screws, but thats super easy to add. I just ordered one. Is this the fruit of your work Anakin Starkiller ?

Better photos here (sold out site), Korbanth has a bad photo for some reason.

How does it compare to the Hand of the Emperor by Shadowfoil Props?

  • That one has two identical size LED holders on the control box which is wrong
  • looks to be missing the 2 screws on the side of the box
  • i think the brass thumbscrew isnt right either
  • The grip screws look a bit small too.
  • And unless the grip can be clocked, the brass thumbscrew is on the wrong side, it should line up with the large black button.

Compare to shot above:

It’s pretty good. The actual prop made has a green LED that Shanon holds on the card. The CGI one used for the close up on the hilt card is red. The original one made by Parks has separate cut grips. The screws and washers are functional, not just detail. Later versions made for the public, he milled the grips so the grip section was all one piece. This looks to be the case here. Also not sure unless someone had one in hand but it looks a bit long (it might not be). The original one made by Parks and the secret five that were made as exact replicas were short. Parks made them longer when he sold them on the website because he knew most people were use to longer hilts plus he did not want to get into any legal trouble. The ones he sold in public on his site had the longer hilt and some other changes. The longer he sold them, he tended to change his building processes and tech, various other design elements change like the grip and the area where the brass thumb screw meets the grip. The

It’s certainly the best available option in 2024. I’ll get a measurement once I have it in hand.

Overall, I think it’s a nice looking replica. I myself have pulled back from overly obsessing on details when it comes to prop replicas and could solace in just being happy with my collection choices. I simply want to put the information out there for anyone who wants it.

Parks basically made his hilts back then with stock materials. He didn’t seem to implement machined parts made by milling or lathing until shortly after. Things like the main hilt and grips are just cut sections of various metal tubing. The buttons and bezels are all found items from hardware and electronic stores, the large black buttons is a bump on. The brass knob can still be found online at Home Depot. I don’t think there is any promenade in approaching the design from a more idealized design.

Well personally I was ecstatic to find this because I’ve been after something that’s close to the Parks model for years and never found it. A few have popped up on the last few years but always had some glaring issue that stopped me from getting it, but this is the one. The led color should be easy to swap out as well.

Like I said before, red is present on the CGI version and green is present on the live character version being held. So you can argue either.

The one thing I always think about is how no one has ever attempted to replicate the little switch in the middle of the hilt. This is the momentary switch that lit up the EL blade. Since this hilt prop was the only actual prop, it is the hero prop. Because I got to think that if any Luke or Obi or other main Jedi character ever had such a function on their hero hilt that, other replicators would elect to include it as a design detail. But for some reason it is ignored on The Mara hilt design.

Probably because it stands out as something that was there for practicality not the actual intended design. And it’s in the way lol. Wouldn’t be hard to drill a hole and add it though.

What's funny is that it isn't too dissimilar from the switch on the ANH stunts that powered up the motor to spin the blade.
