Dewy and Anakin Starkiller's Accurate Qui-Gon Jinn Lightsaber Design

Happy New Years everyone! After talking with Starkiller earlier today, we decided we are overdue for an update. We have run into numerous production challenges behind the scenes that we (mostly Dan) have had to work through one-by-one. The metal portions of this saber are complete, and all of the remaining issues are related to the main plastic grip body. I won't go through all the trials and tribulations, but the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to become visible!

In my hands at this very moment, I have a prototype that is 95% of the way there. There are just a few little tweaks that need to be made. I am really excited about how this saber is shaping up. This is the replica I have always wanted! Rather than rambling on, I figured you all would rather see some pictures. I didn't have time to break out my good camera, so below are a few quick phone pictures of the latest prototype.

DISCLAIMER: The plastic parts you see on this prototype are in the "as machined" condition and have not been painted yet, hence the grayish hue and discoloration! The final sabers will come all finished and painted.

Legendary!

We're still getting all of the details right on the plastic body. This part has been incredibly difficult to produce. I went through four shops, and four prototype, before I found someone who could nail down the machining. But... After I finally got a prototype that got everything 100%, the machinist accidentally lost the cnc programming that he'd used, and we had to start all over again. Two and a half more prototypes, and here we are.

Dang that’s wild. But I am beyond excited for this release. One of my all time favorite designs

I agree, it’s worth the wait.

I had a delrin one from SaberArt/BastardReplicas back in the 2000s. Wish I would have held onto it all this time. I wonder what they did differently so the delrin wouldn’t warp when machining.

In the end, I think that the abs will turn out better than Delrin, because we'll be able to accurately paint it and not worry about the paint flaking over time.
Plus we'll be using ABS for the rest of the council sabers, so the problems we're having here should hopefully pave the way for future success.
At least that's the plan ;)
