Deagostini Falcon. Anyone seen this?

With my last issues came my first part that was part of the early production 32" Falcon that since does not exist on the ship anymore. So I've been looking at a lot of reference trying to decide if I am going to include them on mine. The first piece I'm referring to is the little star looking piece that fits on top of the three pronged piece that is magnetically held towards the front of the turret (pictured below).

I've also been cross referencing it with the 5ft Falcon and have had some thoughts that I wanted to get peoples feedback on. I find it interesting that the armor plate that sits on front of the turret (looks like the top of a howitzer plate or something) on both the 32 inch and 5ft are missing, which makes me wonder hypothetically if they were removed on both or one on purpose. Maybe it didn't make sense in a real world situation when you can have your cannon blasting the back of the plating (or radar dish haha) and ILM removed them on purpose. I'm also wondering if anyone has seen a shot of the 32" close enough in the movie to see if it was even on there during filming? I have a great shot of the 32" on my ROTJ poster from 1983 where you can clearly see the plate not there. Just a thought because I would like mine to look how it did in the movie as compared to pre-production. I guess it's probably more likely that one of the ships had the plate get lost and the other was taken off to match more closely since the 32" was built one movie after the 5ft. Any thoughts? How is everyone approaching these extra parts?

Thank you for posting those 32 before and after pictures. It made me notice that the raised turret ring detail on the DeAg kit never actually existed, it was just the broken remenants of the "shield" in front of the cannons.

Kokkari, the shield is on the falcon in ESB it's clearly visible. Can't tell if the star piece is there but I have a feeling it is. It may have lost the shield during handling and storage between the two movies.

I believe you, but where? I've combed through the film lately and can't find it. If you remember which scene you saw it in, would you mind sharing?

Never mind. I just caught a glimpse of it on the very first shot of being chased by the Empire with the Star Destroyer directly behind it. Not super clear, but I think you can make it out barely. The problem is that model is always moving so quickly it's hard to see anything without motion blur.

Yep, that's it. Right after Luke speeds off to dagabah the falcon is chased by the star destroyer. It's just few frames that it is visible, but like you say barely. I'd post a picture for you but I've never had any luck posting picture on here

Good find! So, now the question is with that raised detail how were they planning on fitting the armor plate? Seems like it will be in the way.

There's a small slot on the back of the two door handle'esque / antenna like pieces that the shield mounts onto. I'm not home at the moment to take a pic of the sprue, but I believe you have it already?

Some of the guys on Facebook that have zoomed ahead of the instructions have added it already and it looks natural that way.

I removed mine with no issues plus my top closes a lot easier. Funny, looking at pictures of the MR it's on it as well but remembering that they only had access to the original falcon for a short period for scanning and once they got their data they couldn't tell that it was a broken piece so they included it on their model. Thanks for the posting and bringing it to my attention, very helpful and very informative.

If anyone in the UK needs Tamiya Insignia white spray cans, I know someone that has about 7 or 8 cans. About £6.95 each. PM me

I am not sure if anyone else has noticed, but as I begin to pull all the small parts together to begin the assembly of the ship, I have noticed that the small parts, as we progress through each issue number, have begun to get less and less "crisp" in the ejection quality, and are requiring substantially more prep work to remove mold flash and sharpen the details. It is though as additional manufacturers were brought on board to meet demand, quality became a second consideration over volume. Anyway my two cent observation.

I hope that's not the case. Over here in AU we are up to issue 19 and they are out of stock again. It's been happening regularly over here. 3 times they hadn't had enough stock to fill my order out of 19 issues. Other people have missed out more often then me though, some less.

It really began to become more evident as we moved past issue 69 and all the spruces of small parts.

Okay it's Now official that this is 1/12 scale. They have a survey at the DeAgostini website that asks about a 1/12 scale Millennium Falcon that is 32 inches long. This would suggest the real ship is only about 32 feet but whatever

Also noteworthy is that the only other ship for Star Wars that they ask about is an X-Wing. This suggests that the next ship will be a next week. I've heard about a survey before so if it's the same one as people have already discussed, sorry.

So that would make it larger than the Icons, CCboard etc? IIRC all of them were 1:24 while the big XWing toy from TRU was 1:12??

If they get it right, yes, it would be about twice as big. The MF had an approximate length of 32 inches listed on the survey (just as it will be) but the survey listed it as 1/12 also, so........

And why do an X that big? I look at a SS X and I'm thinking, man that's big. I don't see the point of twice as big except that they know they have to do something to top the multitude of 1/24-ish kits out there and/or maybe to allow for functioning wings or something. Plus they may feel they need to stick to or start with the iconic stuff, but still. I won't buy an X at any scale that they would do. A Y, probably.

They have a stall at celebration with both a finished version an a work in progress.

I also asked about r2 and was told it should start December, handy that as the falcon would have just finished

I'm kinda thinking thinking the completed one displayed might be a souped up MR based on the canopy and the display base. Yes it has the extra missing pieces, but where are the mounts in the reflection on the bottom?

Im pretty sure that's Steves upgraded MR. They used it for the pics in the mag and the advertising.

Thanks posting this!!!! So is that interior actually installed in its finished height? I hope so cause it looks like there is a pretty good amount of space underneath to put under floor and maintenance bay details. Anyway you can confirm?
