There has been some discussion/disagreement on FB around a couple of things relating to this run...
I just want to clarify a couple of things...
The final wind vane is neither modelled on a "Hales" or a "Roburite" variant of the riffle grenade. It's based on the prop references. The one on the prop could be either for all we know. I made a passing comment in my last update that the latest render was modelled on the Roburite version (quickly clarified in the following sentence to say that it was actually modelled on the prop reference). The reason I used the Roburite text on the last render was to show that that text was an option if desired, and as I mentioned, I was offering it on the basis that this variant is only found with the correct ring profile, so I've heard. So it really could be either variant that was used.
There is also a discussion around the idea that tape was wrapped to cover the lettering on the ring. I'm all for healthy debate, and even disagreement. I've given my reasons for believing that there is indeed tape present, and tried to demonstrate why I think so the best of my ability.
At the end of the day though, it's a removable, easily added detail, that people can choose to go with, or ignore.
Here's the best I can do to at least show what it is I'm seeing, using the best images that I'm able to share:
As for the very faint lettering and whether or not it would be visible through the tape, here's my vintage (therefor stamped) Graflex clamp, with PVC tape applied:
Interestingly, the letters
are visible, but only at the point where a strong highlight crosses the tape. Exactly what we see on the prop reference:
That's the best I can do to at least explain MY own thinking on the matter. I'm happy for people take it or leave it though.
Work continues on the CAD drawings and STEP models... Most of the trickier parts (which I've tackled first) are done. Hoping to be finished by the end of this week and to get them off for quotes!
For that reason,
I'm dropping off the radar (and FB!) completely! I'll be back on here with another proper update at the beginning of next week!
Thanks again for your patience everyone! So many parts to get through, and NURBS modelling isn't my usual method, so getting everything converted for manufacture, and drawn up in CAD is always a bit of a headache when it gets to this stage in the process.
Almost there though!
Cheers,
Dave
