Sadly, no. Many, many components need to be built before that is the short straw.

I do have a batch of new parts coming in that should facilitate the next major LED component.
 

I saw this on your Flickr. And only one thing came to mind... Are they the Discovery gauntlets? I hope so, you could control the leds through it
 
You said your friend gave you access to the 3d printer. Did he tell you how much it would have cost if you weren't acquainted? I've always been curious to how much it would cost to get a helmet 3d printed, I always got the "too much" answer.

'Too much' is generally the truth. I checked the helmet base (the gold part) recently on Shapeways for S&G, and it came in over $550 I think. Full blown 3D printing companies would charge probably at least twice that, maybe as much as 5 times.

Well, that's one concept. In that scenario the glove has contact points (8 total, 2 per finger) that the thumb makes contact with to register a button press.

I'm entertaining other ideas, because, A) it's not the most natural of things to do and repeat presses could cramp my hands and, B) it's not very future-proof if I decide to use a different (faster/easier/etc) menu system than I currently have.
 
Even if the Gauntlet doesnt function with the LEDs, i think they would be neccesary to have for the full-out discovery outfit. I sure want one. If you ever decide to sell them (gauntlets)

Well, the gloves are the obvious place to mount the interface, so your fingers are nearby. I do have some armor plates, but they're way down on the list for integration. I actually didn't make them, I owe a fellow rpf-er a favor.
