Capt Jack Harkness Coat?

I just gotta say that I love this website! It's so easy to find stuff with you seasoned costumers and your resources! You feed my addiction and I love it!

lols. Seasoned costumers.

Them maybe. I...ionno, I've been doing it for 5 years or so...I dont consider myself "seasoned" though. :p

I'll get the pictures up by tomorrow afternoon, going to a Halloween party where I'll be wearing my the coat, so I'll take some pictures prior to.

Pics? I'm anxious to see the work, and the whole outfit. :cool

BTW...did Sanjay use King's crown or Queen's crown buttons?

Sorry about the delayed reply, had trouble finding the website again :p

The buttons are just normal brass buttons with no insigina on it. Don't have a camera so I had to use my cell phone, quality of the pictures may be less than satisfactory. There is a slit in the back of the coat for easy sitting, as well as a belt in the back to tie around. As I said, the coat is made of very heavy wool. There are some minor things I would have liked to have changed on it, but that's due more my fault for not specifying which model coat than Sanjay's work. Keep in mind John Barrowman has 5 different model coats he uses for Torchwood. From the looks of it, mine could be either the first coat he originally had in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances from Doctor Who, or his first Torchwood coat.

looks pretty good, although the pockets look to be on a wierd angle, although I may be seeing things.

Wow...you can really tell how thick the material is by the way the collar lays (or doesn't). Still leaning towards the Hellocosplay one until I see reason not to.

Thanks for posting, Pat!

Back on the topic of dye, what's the best way to do this to a wool coat? I had these two matching military greatcoats (Polish maybe?) that I picked up stupid cheap at an auction. I figure they are a "close enough" match for me.

I already tried to dye one, and I think I ruined it. It doesn't hold it's shape so well and the thickness seems to have compressed. Sorry if that doesn't make any sense. Around the collar you can see it a lot more. It also appears more wrinkly, but maybe I should iron it properly first? I was always under the impression that dyes needed warm water to work right and I know wool and warm water aren't the best of friends.

Any insight on to this, or should I just leave the other one alone? :lol

According to cosplaysky.com - hellocosplay has been stealing pics from their site. Not the Harkness coat specifically, but I thought it worth mentioning.

I've ordered from cosplaysky and was really happy with it. I had it within 10 days too (paid for rush).

The HelloCosplay coat looks to be nicer than either the cosplaybuy or cosplaysky coats, although I'm already planning to add the proper buttons and rank braid.

Anyone have an idea on the boots? I'm going cross-eyed searching the internet for a pair that even comes close. :confused

They're Caterpillar boots and the exact style is called "Luke".

John usually wears the darker brown versions, but did some of the early Torchwood promo shoots wearing the lighter brown ones.

I've got pairs in both colors and can verify that IS the correct style, because Eve Myles teased me about them (after fangirling me about my Greatcoat lol) while at Barrowman's concert in Cardiff this past October.

The Harkness coat? How'd it compare with the pics on the website? Can you post pics of yours?

I have one of the cosplaysky coats as well. The colors aren't quite right because the BBC dyed the moleskin to create the RAF blue fabric needed for Jack. They give you the choice between blue and black... mine's the blue one. But it's a nice coat, durable, and warm. I wear it everywhere and it's survived several trips to the UK with me.

For mine, I specifically asked them NOT to sew the ribbon they use for the shoulder bars and instead put on a pair of actual RAF ones. I also replaced all the buttons with the correct ones, as well as the buckle.

John Barrowman's seen it, and Eve Myles literally grabbed the front of it and fangirled me when I met her after Barrowman's concert in Cardiff. So despite the color being a little off, it's really accurate in terms of look.

http://abbyshot.com (the company licensed to sell the replica 10 and Martha coats) have said that Jack's is next on their list to work on. However the people involved in Torchwood Series 4 have let slip that for the new series, Jack has a new wardrobe and his coat has been redesigned.

Has anyone actually tried fully replicating this yet?

All the replicas currently made all look like crap or are not accurate at all. Tannim yours is pretty dammed close.

Has nobody had Magnoli make one yet?

Nope... I've had a couple of inquiries, but no one has yet commissioned one.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

has anyone ordered the coat from hellocosplay??? im thinking of buying that one... it doesnt have to be totally accurate but wearable. i would like to wear this places.

I'm eyeing the coat offered by "musicdress." I contacted a buyer of one on eBay to ask about the quality, and here's the response I got:

I'm afraid that I won't be able to send any pictures however; the coat is very good. The coat looks a little more greyish than the photos but is otherwise accurate. There are 8 buttons on the front, and another 2 under the collar closer to the shoulder. And obviously there are buttons on the sleeve. The photos are accurate. As for the price; I merely took advantage of the currency exchange rate at the time! I hope this helps

The buttons, braid, and buckle are wrong...but that's not surprising. They'd have to be replaced on just about every coat out there.

Ive ordered from musicdress on ebay, watch out for sizing, I gave custom measurements and they were way off from what I received. Abbyshot.com has pics of there rendition of the Capt Jack Harness coat, Looks quite decent

I'd like to see what their coat looks like, not just a pic of the real thing. I saw their tweed jacket at SDCC and it was somewhat close, but a bit lacking.

Im hoping a really affordable/accurate coat comes on the market soon. But those two words really dont go together very often lol
