Your proportions look really good! I always thought the DEC kit looked a bit off, bc the overall proportions were based too closely on the ANH blaster. When I designed the parts for FM, I tried to get the TFA look a bit closer. It would be interesting to compare what we came up with
Thanks Anakin Starkiller!

U helped FM as well huh. I also helped him with this blaster as he mostly simply copied the OG MR Hero which isn’t fully accurate. LucasFilm changed a few things for this TFA blaster. His inhouse CAD designer missed most of the subtleties on the mount because of that. His flash hider as well from what I remember was undersized.

Not to say that what I came up with is perfect but obviously these are final designs and I do think they are pretty darn close.

Damn! Just When I Thought I Was Out, They Pull Me Back In! Can I find some justification to skirt my OT Blasters ONLY purchases?! Hmmmmm...
I’m certain not going to talk u into leaving the OT my friend. One thing I was say though is this blaster has definitely grown on me and it is very unique in its own right. But it’s certainly not OT.

It has grown on me as well! At the very least, it's great to know it's an option. As always, nice work, good man!

Finally finished up both Han and Luke’s Droid Callers from ANH..

Galilei made a post with regards to one of my Hoth blasters making its was to “Hotel Finse 122” and their yearly Hoth celebrations. Thank you dude for making this happen..

After seeing v312 beautiful restraining bolt replica he created it was inspiration enough to try and recreate one for myself via CAD and FDM. Did a little digging and found some measurements as well as some additional references. This is what I have so far..

I should say that from what I’ve read these RB where machined parts not actual real used parts so those 3 screws probably got left behind but it looks cooler with them IMHO anyways. So until proven otherwise I’ll leave it as is..

I saw you changed the title of the thread and thought it meant you got a C&D (cease and desist) letter, not realizing it was the initial of your handle

Glad to see you’re still creating these wonderful pieces!

Sean
Knock on wood I have not. Even then it wouldn’t stop me from creating these anyhow. Selling probably ya but creating them certainly no. Fandom always comes first and how amazing is it that we can do this stuff with such detail! And all under our own roof. Pretty cool indeed. Thanks for the kind words :)

Here is the almost finished version of the Medal of Yavin.

I wanted to recreate the prop as it was last seen in the 1977 version of Star Wars. Not the Disney version that came later. Thanks to the metal that showed up in auction we now have some great pics to draw from..

Dang, (again) nice work! And, I don't think it should be lost on the accuracy of the ribbon, as well. The weave thickness, the color, where/how it's attached to the medal. The accuracy, the attention to detail. The man works magic I'm tellin' ya'!

It’s funny how obsessed and single minded one can become within this hobby. In trying to create this Medal of Yavin replica I’m using a gold silk filament as it creates a shin and certainly gives off the impression of metal. The only issue is that in order for the print to be smooth without obvious layer lines it needs to be printed on an angle as you can see here..

The problem is the backside. The front is great.. the backside is another story altogether. It’s really ugly IMHO and my OCD’ness struggles to give it a pass. I’ve messed with the angles from 20 degrees to 60 and everything in between. Even using designed-in supports to help but to no avail. The backs are just simply ugly.

I’ve messed with the print setting which has helped a little. I do want to add pennies for weight so that’s why some prints have those holes in the back in them. Nothing seems to really work and my last resort is a filament dryer which arrives tomorrow. I’ve read how silk can be a pain to work with and these issues are common within the printing world. Here is some pics of some of the backsides of just a few of these test prints so u can see the ugliness that’s trying to be worked out..

Now the alternative is to print it flat on the print bed but with ironing on its losing its shine. Far left is just that. I did cut out the middle part to print on an angel to hide the layer lines and I reattached it afterwords.. that’s why that part and that part alone still has the shine. The middle is not a silk filament (basic PLA) and it prints perfectly (front AND back very smooth) on an angle but I don’t want to paint it. This one is half painted to see how it would come out. It’s ok but the silk is much better. Far right is the silk printed on an angle with holes in the back for the pennies to be again added for the weight. As you can see once I add the plate to the back it works much better and hides some of the defects. The sides though do tell a different story..

Hopefully the dryer will bring this full circle and knock that silk print clean out of the park..
