Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka; Pep and 3D print (Pic Heavy)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Sorry for the lack of updates. Senior year is taking mos of my time and my job is taking whats left of my free time. I did get a little work done over the week

Started doing the ab section after completing the cod last time

1400988437449.2.jpg

Also I printed out the most crucial part of the Jaeger. The chest
After like 2 hours of adjusting and arranging, I got the chest to be my size and cut the page count to about 39.

I also ordered this Otachi head from an artist named Josh Smith. Pretty popular dude I hear. He's taking a suspiciously long time to send it considering I paid him on April 30th.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Today, before going to work, I'm working on the foot. I found a decent way of being able to wear the foot while still maintaining that arch in the center of the foot. I cut out the heel of a pair of my old, OLD shoes and raised it until its above the arch. Then I used a part of the sole on the balls of my foot above the arch and bridged the heel and toes together with a piece of metal I will line with a thin piece of foam later after fiberglassing. I'm going to leave these parts in when fiberglassing so it maintains the shape. Otherwise it may harden in a position where I couldnt get my foot in without breaking it, and/or ruining the arch in the foot. After hardening, Im going to drill in some screws so they stay in and add rubber soles on the bottom of the whole thing so I dont ruin the paper when I try walking in it

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Yay you're back!
I've been awaiting an update, but i know all too well school/uni and work takes away all the fun time
your progress is awesome as always! that kaiju head is nice, hope it comes your way soon!
I'm close to finishing caboose, but Uni got in my way and my lady has been unwell, but I'm home now and the build will be finished this week at last!

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Update!
Been busy this week, and I'll be even more busy next week since finals are coming up, then I graduate high school.

I've been working on this part of the Jaeger for almost 2 weeks now. It totally kicked my ass. But tonight, I told myself I WILL get it done, and put myself on lockdown until its done. Lockdown meaning I'm not doing anything else until I finish. Without further ado, here is the finished pep ab plating. Other than their slightly out of human proportion shape (which I need to talk to Glitch about to adjust), they look fantastic

1401437382517.5.jpg
1401437393345.6.jpg
1401437401682.8.jpg

Also I've done some more work on the foot. I can stand in it, even if its still paper. I'm going to need some tips for fibrglassing, like how to make it strong enough to carefully walk in without destroying it
1401437414873.9.jpg

I've also been doing some file work of the helmet. Lots of jagged and uneven edges to smooth out
1401437456028.10.jpg
This is how it looks with some file work
1401437471017.11.jpg

And how it looked before
1401437480684.12.jpg
Its a little hard to see since my webcam is garbage, but I think you get the general idea.

Thats all I have for you guys. Next up is the left leg. I'll have the whole lower body done soon. After that, and I guarantee it, its the chest, and I can't wait. See you then :)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Sorry about the long lack of updates. this past week was finals week. But today, I graduate high school. After today, I'll have all the time in the world to work on Striker. Here is what I have so far. Finishing up the left leg as of now

I'm going to need A LOT of fiberglass

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

awesome!!! getting further and further dude!
I just got my final assignment done for uni last weekend, I know how taxing it is on free time :p
and I'm graduating too!
Caboose is still getting upgraded really really slowly, i make very little progress per week, but its getting there!
I actually got it to a wearable stage 2 weeks ago, look sweet huh?

That is sick! All that hard work is really paying off

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

New update!
Since I graduated last Friday, I've had A LOT more time to build up Striker. I finally finished the lower body
1403127401035.1.jpg
Now, I took the feet out of the photo since I'm going to redo them larger.
1403127408263.2.jpg
1403127413794.3.jpg
1403127419934.4.jpg
1403127423888.5.jpg
1403127434146.6.jpg

Now that thats over, and I dont feel like working on the feet because of how difficult they are to both pep and make it wearable for a human foot, I started building the part I'm most excited to build: The Chest!

I already banged out most of the separated parts before I get to work on the rest of it
1403127831817.1.jpg
Got the chest plates that open up for the missiles done, and the parts that hold the forward red lights
1403127564001.8.jpg
Its a good size, and I hope it'll fit well

Also just to mess around, I dug out some led's
1403127513666.7.jpg

Also I found out as I was writing this, that I'm not the only one working on your files Glitch. Found another fellow Striker builder

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Update!

I need some new lights in my room. The lighting is terrible

I started working on the wearable part of the chest. Its smaller since a lot of the front pieces are separated. I got almost the entire right side of it done
1403250006971.9.jpg
1403249999538.8.jpg
1403249978373.7.jpg

I was even able to try it on
1403249945078.6.jpg
1403249905238.4.jpg\
1403249867021.1.jpg\
1403250051993.10.jpg

Now, the reason I have my arm raised up while trying it on is because on the side of the ribs under the arm, its wider than my shoulder. Putting my arm all the way down would crush the pep. Once the chest is fully pep'd, I need to make a few modifications for it to fit me properly. So far I'm really happy with how its going.

But I was thinking ahead a bit and noticed something that may be a problem. Whats unique about Striker Eureka compared to all the other Jaegers is that here is nothing hiding the shoulder joints. Gipsy Danger had this big shoulder pad with the number 34 on it. It hides all the mechanical components in the shoulders
Ss-poster-rim_2.jpg\

Striker Eureka, however, does not. It seems to go directly from chest to biceps
Screenshot 2014-06-21 at 1.20.19 PM.png

So I thought about how I would hide the spaces there, and I had a great idea: I should mimic the hydralics on stuff within the shoulders
Screenshot 2014-06-21 at 1.24.27 PM.png
Screenshot 2014-06-21 at 1.24.54 PM.png

Since its such a small place on the suit, I think PVC pip is too big to work. So I was thinking of buying cheap toiler paper spindles, removing the springs, painting them chrome, and dry brushing it with silver to give it a worn look. Something like this in a working system on the shoulders. I wont be easy, but I'm willing to try
283-504_1.jpg

Time to get back to it! New update is coming soon

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Hey guys! Not an update right now, but I did have an idea I wanted to share with you all.

Yesterday, while I was at work, I notice this spring on the counter
1403549289831.1.jpg

I picked it up and tugged on it, and it was tough. Thats when I had a "EUREKA" moment.

I had a great idea to make an inexpensive system of making the blades swing out/but at a cost that they wont retract.

I have the swinging points of the blades be used as pulleys. There will be cable around the pulleys that lead to the spring. When the blades are closed, the spring is under a lot of tension. When I release the blades, the spring will decompress and it will pull the cables and open the blades. I made a quick drawing while at work to avoid forgetting it

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Update!

Finished the front and left side of the chest last night.
1403597906103.2.jpg
1403598068640.3.jpg
1403598075768.4.jpg

After trying it on, the armpit thing this a really big problem. Something I might need to talk to Glitch about. Its just too wide on the armpits. It fits around my midsection though, so its not just overscaled
1403597858517.1.jpg

So I did a bit of investigation on it. Looking at my NECA figure, I can see why. I made a few quick sketches on how the chest currently fits

Front
1403598992563.7.jpg

An overhead view
1403598999031.8.jpg

And on the side
1403599004747.9.jpg
Just for the lol's, I drew in the wings too

Today, I should be finishing up the chest. If I can get it to fit me good enough, I'll get a sizing for the wings and get started on those. If not, then its no problem.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Worked on the back of the Jaeger last night before bed. You know, ever since I saw the movie, I had wondered why the back looks like something is supposed to plug in there because its back looks like slot pins.
1403689868139.1.jpg
1403689873706.2.jpg
1403689883144.3.jpg

I figured they designed the back of the Jaeger for the sole purpose of having the bomb attached to it
1403689910299.4.jpg

I'm not exactly sure, but I'm almost done with the back so we'll see how it goes

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Big Update!

I finished the chest last night. It looks great, but right now its really wide and I got some bad cramps when I put it on real fast, so I dont have pics of me wearing it. I think what I'm just going to do is take out the parts under the arms all together, so it slips on and off like a poncho. Anyway, here it is, and I even put the helmet on it
1403855595472.1.jpg
1403855616899.2.jpg
1403855639564.3.jpg
1403856281099.1.jpg
1403856289790.2.jpg

And just for the lols, I dug out my abandoned Gipsy Danger helmet. Gipsy Eureka ready for launch!
1403856426752.3.jpg

I'm pretty happy with the chest, so I'm going to go ahead and print out the left and right wings for the chest. Thats all for today since I have some important things to do, but I'll have more soon
