Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka; Pep and 3D print (Pic Heavy)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

I got a big update for you guys.

I literally just finished the entire right forearm, sting blades and all. I am quite proud of myself. I was even able to lightly tape it together and do a test fit. I'll save that little treat for last. Now for some pics

I was only able to get one pic of the test fit because my sister is stupid and only wanted to take one pic

Okay so now that the forearm is done, time to do the right hand/brass knuckles, then the bicep. So excited for this

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Ok that just looks way too awesome!!!
I just came back from Supanova so I'll get around to finishing the files soon enough, such a massive weekend!

found this little bit of awesomeness at the con too!

and for Judge Spartan my current files are here on my 4shared account (which you need an account to download stuff from now :C)
but once they are complete I'll put them on mediashare or some other free file hosting service

*edit: wrong link to the files fixed*

very exciting build Dumont!

Great to hear from you again, Glitch. Very nice set of dog tags. I'm searching for a set of my own as well. I plan on doing some fiberglassing done tomorrow. Probably the helmet or the right forearm pieces. But I'd like to hear a little about your stuff. How did Supanova con go?

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Thanks dude!
fibreglassing sucks, hope it goes well though.

My weekend was quite crazy, got a photo with Peter Mayhew (Chewie) and Temuera Morrison (Jango)
(I'm the clone on the very right)

I'm very sad to say my saturday night was a bit messy and I didn't get time to finish my Spartan :C :C :C
but I did pick up a pretty sweet energy sword for my caboose costume, so i'll put a pic up when I do get it done :D

Aww dude that is SICK! That clone trooper suit looks BA. I cant wait to see your Spartan with that energy sword

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Dont worry guys. Thread isnt dead. Ive just been busy, but I still got a LOT of work done on the helmet. Ill post some pics and stuff once I get off work in about 3 hours

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

My Caboose armour is almost done, a bit more work and I'll be onto these files and be pepping Striker aswell!
continue the excellent work my favourite guinea pig :p

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

I think you guys are long overdue for an update. I spent the last few days fiberglassing the helmet, and printed out the files to make the entire right leg, foot and all. I also finished peping out a majority of the thigh and cut out the visor on the helmet.
Here is the thigh

1397165403943.6.jpg
1397165413327.7.jpg
1397165437346.9.jpg
Striker Eureka has these shutter armor parts on the back of its knees. There are shots of it from the movie, but its hard to see so I got just the part on the NECA figure
1397165480460.10.jpg
1397165576585.11.jpg

Now for a test fit. It is huge on purpose because fiberglassing shrinks pep
1397165694811.12.jpg
1397165719828.13.jpg

And now onto the helmet. It came out really well. It warped a bit and the cutting was rough, but I'm happy with it

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

I took a look at the chest piece for Striker Eureka. It looks fantastic but HOLY CRAP the number of parts. Only highly advanced pep builders could do this. Dear lord. But its a challenge I'm willing to make

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Dude, that helmet...

JIMP.jpg

good luck with that chest hahaha, I hope to get into Striker when I'm finished perfecting Caboose!
when you print it out, there are certain sections you should keep together, just highlight the parts on the pages to see which parts make which piece of the chest, the last 30 or so pages is the huge part of the back, so if you pep in order from pages 1 onwards you should be able to build it piece by piece.
keep up the awesome!

Hahaha thanks. Im currently working on the shin while at home and tracing fold lines for the foot during my breaks at work. Yep, I even take my project to work. So many coworkers always wondering what I'm doing. Ill have an update soon.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Alright, time for a new update. Got another part of the right leg done. The shin. Its rather large. Striker Eureka has some "muscular" legs.
1397624565093.1.jpg
1397624590333.2.jpg
1397624610114.3.jpg

1397624648088.5.jpg
1397624654538.6.jpg
1397624670141.7.jpg

I did a quick test fir of it. Definitely on the loose side, but fiberglassing it should shrink it down enough to fit better, and still leave room for electronics
1397624956819.9.jpg
(Dont mind the finger lol)
1397624834139.8.jpg
1397624977660.10.jpg

It looks pretty sick though.

Once I finished the shin, I went back to the thigh and finished up last details on it
1397625208418.11.jpg
1397625223253.12.jpg

Once I finished that, I just couldnt resist getting a pic with it all on
1397625425247.13.jpg
1397625439023.14.jpg
1397625498444.15.jpg
1397625518605.16.jpg
1397625585818.17.jpg

The large fit of the shin made it fall to my ankle often, but it still came out great.

After that, I went ahead and got started on the right foot. Now, this is the area of the entire Jaeger I am most worried about. If you look at the screenshots from the actual movie (Ignore the people)

(Continued)

Striker Eureka has an INCREDIBLY complex system of push arms, pistons, gears etc. on the foot, back of the ankle running all the way up near the back of the knee.
Screenshot 2014-04-15 at 10.45.48 PM.png
Screenshot 2014-04-15 at 10.46.05 PM.png

So far this is what I have done of the foot. This pep is REALLY tough because of all the gears and pistons and stuff, even though most were taken out in the pep file.
1397625626167.18.jpg
1397625639409.19.jpg

Here is what I have so far next to my size 9.5 shoe. I'm a little worried that the foot will be too small after glassing and doing all the other work to make it wearable.
1397625659640.20.jpg

I'll just push on to make sure. If its too small, oh well, scale up and try again.

Thats all for this update. Thank you all

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Incredible work!! IMO... I don't think the suit would look that off if you needed to scale the foot up if you needed too!! There's so much physical exaggeration going on anyway, no ones going to notice off the foot is 10% larger, do you?

Thanks for the kind words. I'm quite the perfectionist. The size of the foot itself is actually the least of the problems. Another major problem is the shape of the foot. The foot is actually really narrow under all the armor. Another problem is that the foot has a HUGE arch between the heel and the rest of the foot. I have some ideas for the foot, and I hope they work out. It wont be comfortable to wear but thats a sacrifice I'm willing to make

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

dude this is absolutely awesome!
I did remove a decent amount of the gears and pistons from the pep, but that is because I thought it would be a heck of a lot simpler to get some various sizes of dowel or PVC pipe and use them instead. pepping them would be time consuming and not a perfect circle like wood or pipe would be a lot closer to.
It looks like you are doing great work and using movie references though!
those are the key to finding those little details I didnt include,
keep it up man!

Thanks Glitch. I'm glad you didn't include those details in the final pep. Right now, the foot is a nightmare to pep, especially around the toe area. The foot is about halfway done as of now. I plan on adding PVC pipe to act as pistons. I also had an idea of using toilet paper inserts as hydraulic pistons. Ill kepp you updated. How are the wings going?
