BTTF Futaba Delorean Remote Project

Believe me Mike - I'm busting as best as I can. Today was get into the garage and move about (20) 20' long 2x12 and prep them for the new attic workshop/office.

I'm also trying to get the Pepsi Perfects put together they they are taking some time. I'm hoping to get time in on them tomorrow and take a break to prep/wire up a stanley display for my electronics guy.

I've also recieved some new parts for another replica from E-Machineshop.com and I think I'm gonna use them to make the frames for the Stanley Displays. They will be prepped for an Futaba model A and it will be up to the final owner/builder to modify the frame for the model H style.

Also, how is everyone wanting to do their Molex and Switch mounting? I've always believed that the originals were just glued to the side somehow. I'll be honest - I don't like that idea very much. I'm going to make a custom bracket that will better support the switch and Molex. I'll try a test this week of what I'm thinking and show it here for comments/critiques.

Gary the bracket Idea I like because I have my parts glued on and it's not that sturdy and looks messy. As long as the brackets are black in color we should be fine.

I'm a little confused on the stanly modification your talking about I have the correct model futaba so will the display fit my remote? What would need to be done?

Gary:
I have also been thinking about how to mount the switch and molex - I don't like the idea of gluing them on at all. I mentioned somewhere above that I will (eventually) actually use the remote, so if I can make my Futaba into a Doc Brown remote without modifying the remote itself, I will.
I have been working on plans for a bracket to mount them myself. I actually plan on having the bracket for mounting the molex and switch be attached to a plate that will also have the Unibox and Stanley displays mounted/attached to it. All of the Doc's additions will be attached one way or another to the plate that the Unibox rests on, and will kind of hug the back and left side of the remote. I will put all Doc's extra components on as one piece. I'm really tired right at the moment, so I hope that makes sense...

So, I'd like to see what you come up with - but when you get to sending out the kits, I for one would really like just the components themselves, and mount them myself.

I will probably use a bracket on one of the remotes and glue on the other. I'm temporarily using double sided 3M tape to hold the parts in place. It works ok, so I may just use that instead of glue.

Since the left side is not really seen up close in the film, the bracket should be ok as long as the parts are in the correct location.

They used 3m double sided tape all over the BTTF-DeLorean, so you aren't doing anything wrong by using it on the Futaba. That's what I'm planning to do.

I'll see if I can get the bracket concepts modeled this week. I like the all in one idea. May have to give that a shot as well. I've got plenty of .050 Aluminum in the shop to play with :)

Surface area :) If you were mounting just the Molex or Switch by their sides - definitely not enough. However, I think there is enough area on the wide side of the molex to tape down and stay pretty good. A similar approach may work for the toggle as well. Just need to look into it a bit more.

I too think a black bracket would be great.

I look forward to the parts coming together!

How in the world can 3m double sided tape hold those parts?

It's made for 'permanent' outdoor use and it's weather resistant. You wouldn't think it'd be able to work, but this stuff is really strong compared to most other tapes. It's also easy to remove without it leaving any residue or damaging anything if you need to replace it. I've had the Molex, toggle switch, and Unibox attached with the tape for a couple of weeks now, and it's still holding very well! :cool

I would wait for another 880. I see them on eBay all the time.

I just bought an old 10 roll pack of Rotex red label tape on eBay,
so I could make some labels for you if you need them.

There is a listing on eBay right now for 2 Rotex 880s if you still need one. :lol
2 Rotex 880s on eBay

I got the label tape today! If anyone needs labels for the remote, let me know and I will make them for you.

WOW, didn't follow-up on this for a while, but Gary, I'd definetly be in for package 2!!! I have a remote on it's way (damn custom services), but don't think I'm handy enough to covert it. So a complete package to attach in one whole to the remote would be just awesome!

If you are doing a run, please post a link in this thread too, so I don't miss it, please, please, please? I don't think DB537 would mind...

I don't mind at all. I'm going to be getting the same stuff from Gary for my remotes as well. I will be saving most of the parts I already had for a later build. :cool

... I don't have a DeLorean yet. That will probably happen later this year.
But I did buy my first part today for the inevitable conversion. :lol...

Wow, Daniel. Where have you found that clock and how much have you paid? Can't find it on eBay.
