    Hey guys,

Some may know my interest for the small blockade runner used in ANH (http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=48896), after more ref have showed up, it was time to start it ! I'm still lacking ref pics in some places, if anyone has taken some pics when it was displayed this summer, let me know :)

I found 10 different kits used on it so far but a lot more has to be found. :)

    Thanks for looking :)

Was this a screen used model Julien, or just a production prototype?

    Julien,

    Good start~! :)
I'm also interested in this model and have a plan to build like you.
I'm wondering What part used for the engine cap? (the outside of heat sink parts)

    Thanks,
    Eric.

    Thanks Eric,

This is not a kitpart, it is scratchbuilt from aluminium foil like the original.

Julien, do you have the DVD from Sculpting a Galaxy? There is a slide in a segment discussing scale that visually compares the smaller blockade runner with the large one. The smaller one is mid-build. The slide isn't crisp but it shows off the structure which might be of interest. By the look of yours, I'd say you have the DVD.

Well today I made my first 3D parts that I'm going to get 3D printed.
Shapes were pretty easy for a beginner like me so it was nice to be able to learn on something that I will actually use on a model. :)

Here's a few pictures I took at SDCC.
its always hard to judge color in these pictures, but I'm pretty sure the base coat is Floquil grime.
Earlier in the week I had painted my Falcon grime, and they looked the same.

Thank you a lot Lord Hater ! Those help a lot !

Thanks for the Floquil Grime info !

I don't have Floquil Grime but I'm going to try a mix of Tamiya paint to match it. Do you think the red is Caboose Red ?

Keep in mind floquil grime changed a lot from when the filmed this to now. I have two floquil grime bottles one from back around 1977 and one from a couple of years ago. Two very different shades.

    You're right, McGraff.
I have an old bottle as well, and it's greener than the more recent formulation. But as a point of reference it's a good place to start.

As to what color the red is, I'd just be guessing.
But if you'd like my guess I'd say it was closer to "Caboose" than "Caboose Red."
It's not the same red you see on X-Wings. It's like the dark red panels on the Falcon.

Any chance someone knows this part ?

It's about 22 mm wide, it looks like a Panther road wheel. 1/48 seems too small so I guess it's 1/35.

    Thank you in advance.

    Julien,

I'm not sure but How about Bandai 1/48 Panther G?
It is about 19mm and most of the parts were donated from this kit and fujimi 1/76 sherman!

    Thanks,
    Eric.

Some new details added, some portions of the ship created :)

I just need to add the kind of turrets on the top and bottom front, I will get them 3D printed (yeah I was bored trying to find a pipe with the correct diameter and wall thickness...), and some details. I'm waiting on a cool kit for it :)

    Anyone want to go halfsies?

    Julien,

The wheel is 1/48 Panther. Your vertical radar tube should not be the same diamater as the body. :)

tiger wheels look closer to this, but the two wedge shapes are putting me off, was this wheel shaved down leaving these triangular shapes behind ? Unable to see bandai sprues I'll keep looking

Kevin, could they have mixed white and red to get this pink color ?
Yes the pics with flash are washed out, I only get 5 or 6 pics without flash (and hopefuly a good white color balance :)).
I think I wont do the lighter color of this model but that's always nice to has another Floquil gray as ref... For another model ! :D

    Thanks !

I know that the Landspeeder miniature is mostly pink, it may even be the same shade as the small Blockade Runner model highlights.

My guess is Joe Johnston either used an off-the-shelf color from another manufacturer, or he just made his own mixture from the Railroad Colors they had on hand, Who knows, maybe a few drops of Reefer White added to some Boxcar Red. The Landspeeder was big enough that he probably used a spray gun to lay down the two main colors, the darker of which also looks an awful lot like Boxcar Red to me.

Either way, if they built the Landspeeder before the small Blockade Runner, there was some ready-to-use pink lying around the model shop when the time came to paint it.

Small Blockade Runner now FOR SALE

Oh good God it's up for Auction right now on Ebay starting at $200,000! - ends Oct. 1, 2015 (Live) but they don't take PayPal! :) The seller says it is 16 inches long and that it came from McCune's collection . . .

For a second I thought they were auctioning the bigger one, until I looked closely at the heat sinks on the engines. This listing also claims that is was "screen used".

If the small one is going for 200 grand, how much do you think the big one would fetch if sold?

Did you see the other stuff for auction? The helmet starting at $150K? The turbo laser turret starting at $8 grand. Hmmmm......

I do like the camera dolly. That would be a centrepiece by itself in someone's Star Wars den!
