BLADE RUNNER BLASTER Replica by DAIKI KOGYO / ELFIN KNIGHTS (Japan)

Just unpacked mine - was like a kid on Christmas morning until... Man, this thing is definitely not straight. It has very noticeable warps that are not reflected in the shots on the box at all. It's like a bad resin recast of someone else's kit. Here are some pics:

You can't see it very well, but the vertical pin near the front end of the gun under the Bulldog barrel is also not vertical as it should be.

Going to have to get with HLJ and see what can be done about return/replacement.

That looks like a piece of rubbish compared to the pristine advertisement pics. Ask for your cash back if they can't deliver on quality. Appears to be an Elfin Knights complete stuff up.

There are other issues too. Soft details in some spots (like the engraved details on the side knob), it doesn't say "Made in Austria" on the Steyr receiver. It's very different from the ad and comparison pics on page one of this thread. Here's hoping mine is the exception and not the rule. It might be fixable if I can take it apart, but that's only an option if HLJ can't or won't send a better example.

Man that it TOTAL junk. What an incredible disappointment for you Mark and a disgrace on them for thinking that your piece was good enough to despatch.

I sincerely hope that they do the right thing and send you a replacement.

Regards

Oh no.... I ordered mine as a Christmas present.... this isn't reassuring. I wonder if they were rushed to make more as on HLJ they would switch back and forth between pre-order and order stop and the demand was so great the quality control went lacking. Hopefully you can get that resolved. I also wonder what's involved in disassembling them.

The HLJ website advert says:
..... "Created from detailed examinations and measurements of the movie prop itself, this is as close as it gets, folks!"......
....." it is made of ABS and PVC " ......
Plus the advert photos of this Blaster / product look fantastic.

Going by member FlyingDachshund's post above of his Blaster.....
......if these Blasters are all going to be like that, then ABS and PVC stands for "Absolute Bull Shite" and "Piece of Valueless Crap" :ninja

I'd tell the complaint department people at HLJ to bring it to the attention of their CEO Manager Mr Scott Hards.... No way he would accept this nonsense.

I don't know how this might compare abroad, but the UK has Tradings Standards. Goods should be 'as described', 'of merchantable quality' and 'fit for purpose'. You've got them on all three by the looks of it.

I've never had problems with HLJ in the past - I'm certain they will do everything they can to make things right. I have two emails in to different departments there with the pics I've posted here attached. The way these are packaged, it would be kind of hard for HLJ to determine what the blaster looks like in detail without taking it out of the box, so this one is on DAIKI KOGYO / ELFIN KNIGHTS as far as I'm concerned. I'm interested to see what you guys get (I hope it's better than mine!).

I am sure you will be looked after at HLJ. No problem..... They are usually pretty cool.
Even Paypal will have you covered if you paid via Paypal. This is clearly the manufacturer's fault.:devil

Brief update - HLJ is going to replace the blaster (love those guys!). Hopefully the new one will be better. I'd ask them to inspect it prior to shipping but I know they are busy up there... Still looking forward to seeing what you guys get!

I guess it is up to you, the individual as to what would be satisfactory. However....I would not let HLJ post you another one unless you check it via photos they send you...then give them the go ahead. Don't rely on the HLJ staff to check it...they only have an interest to sell these and get them out of their hands to the consumer.

The blaster you received looks like a major problem in many aspects of the blaster...no where near what the advertised photos suggest. You know what you want to see and what expectations you have, so I would ask for photos of the item before you say yes or no. Just a suggestion..... it is what I would do, or I would ask for my cash back, even better.

This really stinks. I pre-ordered one of these ages ago, just got my shipping notice.
At the price point itseemed like a no brainer.

You would think with all the delays, they would have hadplenty of time to work out all the kinks.
I can’t think that Ryosuke is happy about this.

Wow....that is embarrassing. I can't believe they'd let that out of the factory.

Hey Flying Dach,
What part of the body is PVC? If the entire body is PVC, you might be able to remedy the warpage with a hair dryer. It is no excuse for Daiki Kogyo to ship it in such a condition, but to me it's even worse if the silly thing was designed with a mostly PVC body, like a garage kit. The steyr parts and really most of the gun should have been ABS.
Just cheapness, no excuse.

I placed an order just now with Hobby Link, Japan. Then I saw the dud that FlyingDachshund got. Doh! Well, maybe I'll take one for the team and let ya'll know what'll happen.

It's somewhat encouraging, however, that there are Japanese hobby sites that make it easy for American or non-Japan-based customers to place orders. The last time I tried jumping on the bandwagon for a BR blaster, I had to fill in what "Prefecture" I belonged to. Heck, I tried putting in my State to see if that worked, but the whole thing got ultra convoluted so I have up. :D

Ive seen pictures of another example on a facebook group, it doesn't look as warmed as the one above, but the detail is still soft and there are some definite manufacturing issues to my mind

do the clear grips unscrew to make it easier to paint the butt plate? how easy would it be to paint this?

Well that's not encouraging. Many of the issues I see there are the same on my gun - warped laser pointer, the Steyr receiver isn't straight and level in either the top or side view, and it's oddly lumpy in spots... maybe I'll go for a refund instead of an exchange. May I ask what Facebook group that was posted to?
