Batsuit: Arkham Origins V1

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Need your opinion. I purchased some rounded hex bolts for the armor but don't know how I feel about them. I've had one of my friends tell me to leave it alone and omit the bolt/rivets from the costume design to keep it clean... Yet I can't help but want to make it look as authentic as I can... Catch is, if I mount these things on the armor, it can't be undone as I have to drill holes in the foam to insert them. What do you think? You see the without images above. Now I just stood these bolts up without mounting them into the foam yet.Which look do you prefer?

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Thanks for the tip. I say go for the bolts bro. It looks great either way, But the more detailed the more rewarding if you ask me.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

You could always use eyelets (found at JoAnns) for a more flushed look. That way you can just glue them on without having to drill anything. But you should definitely add them.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Next question. Should u leave the bolts that color for a subtle look or give them an aluminum finish?

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

I say put the bolts on, the details man, THE DETAILS!!! But whether or not to change the color, I am unsure. If it were me, i would leave them as is.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

I say with. Little details like that will make this pop even more...and draw attention away from the base materials.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Thanks for your input guys. I've decided to add the bolts to keep the costume true to the original design. Since the color scheme of the costume has been altered to some degree already(being that I couldn't find the right shade of grey for the armor, so I just used gunmetal). I think these bolts blend in nicely and add to the stealth look of a Dark Knight. I'm going to take the bolts to my friends house tomorrow and see if we can grind the stems off that way I can just glue the bolt heads on.

Ok. I've been trying to look at reference pictures of the armor to see if what I'm supposed to be using are bolts or rivets. Problem with all the reference images I've found is that they seem to be textured flat onto the model so I can't get a real sense of their dimensions if they have any. I thought they looked like bolts with an hex head. But on other cosplay I've seen people make they are using rivets. I guess I figured armor like this would be held together like the iron man armor where armor plates could be removed and replaced by unbolting them from the outfit. But maybe I assumed incorrectly. Also I just thought using small bolts seemed kind of bad ass. Now I'm torn on it. Money isn't the issue. I only spent about $2 on bolts. I just want to provide a good representation of the source material. What are your thoughts? Use bolts or rivets?image.jpgimage.jpg

Yeah go with what you have there using the neca 1/4 as a reference [emoji106] looking EXELENT [emoji4]

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Okay. Just needed a push in that direction to know I wasnt doing something stupid. I'll work on it after work today. Just purchased a set of drill bits for my dremel. Found that the 3/8 bit cuts into the eva foam like butter and makes a hole wide enough for me to insert the bolts into. So it should be no issue. I'll still try it on another test piece of foam that I've already plastidipped to make sure it doesn't cause any unsightly abrasions to the surrounding area.

I also want to head back to the bolt shop and pick up a set of smaller bolts that mount onto the chest plate directly as the ones I have might be too large and distracting. My only wish is that I had a mannequin or something to help me get oriented. When crafting pieces for the ribs or back its hard to see if the fit is right.

Your heading in the right direction you could always make a duct tape dummy or stuff an ole jumper with news paper keep up the great work [emoji106][emoji4]

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Maybe I can stuff a jacket with newspaper or towels to just help me work on the general dimensions of the back and ribcage armor. I'll see if it's beneficial. I would like to make a duct tape double but not sure who would help wrap me and cut me loose.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Yeah, a duct tape dummy makes things a WHOLE lot easier.

Did you use a duct tape dummy?
BTW, I checked out your thread on Botb and I'm thoroughly impressed. I'm going to use some of your pics as a reference for the gauntlets.
I doubt mine will come out as good though.
I've been busy drawing up sketches of how the back and side armor peices look trying to make a flat image so I can cut it out onto foam. Going to try and cut one side out today and see if it matches up. Wish I had the day off today. It's all I can think of right now. Lol halloween is just around the corner and there is much to do.

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

Just because I'm bored here at work I spliced a picture of my chest plate with that of the neca figurine and was tripped out how well it matched up as the entire thing was done freehand using reference images from a completely different source. Hope I can do just as well with the rest of the outfit.

Yeah, it's crunch time. I need to finish my kids costumes. I'm just gonna wear my classic Batman suit for Halloween. My Arkham Origins suit will be for Comic Con next year. I plan to do my son an Origins Robin suit by then. But yes, I did make a duct tape dummy to use while making my foam muscle under suit. About 3 or 4 rolls will do it.

nice. I was actually just looking at pics of your gauntlets to see if I can replicate them without having to purchase the templates. I just purchased a bunch of sheets of 6mm eva foam. It looks like you also used some that are quite a bit thinner as well. What thicknesses did you utilize?

Re: WIP - Batman Arkham Origins

1 piece, what I would call the "base" is 5mm. There is a "detail" piece that
is 2mm. The rest is 3mm. Once all the layers are glued down they get pretty stiff. Plus after sealing them they become even more ridged.
