AW Studios 350 ROM BOP Build and Re..

Well the key to it is to set the LEDs back far enough so that the cone of light completely covers the diameter of the opening. Then the cotton just makes one giant glow. It works perfectly but then again yours looks great as well.

I will definately have to try that. Thanks.

Looking great, I have the fiberglass version and I need to build that puppy.

This is looking really nice! I'm especially interested to see how this turns out as I'm building the AMT kit of this ship myself with a lot of modifications.

I've seen your thread, you really have put a lot of work into it. I keep thinking about modifying the nacelles, but I'm not quite sure yet.... They seem a bit bulky to me.

I agree. They do look a bit on the hefty side in the pics I've seen.

Yeah, I watched the episode again and freezed some frames and went back and forth with it and I think I'm going to have to slim them down and get them to look a bit more accurate.

Well...... Did some more work on this recently and did some more study. I'm going to need to do some further research before I come to a decision as to exactly what I'm going to do. In some ways the nacelles seem to be to long and in other wasy they seem to be to thick. Since I want to do the model justice and since I'm going to have to sell it as soon as it's done, I want to get it right and not just go with what's there. I want it resemble the actual filming model even if it isn't the exact same scale.

I used Elmers glue as a paint mask for the engine exhaust, matched up the parts with comparison to the hull and cut the **** off of the dorsal to drill holes and prep to attach to the main hull assembly. Additionally I compared several screens and photos of the filming model the get a better sense of the proper proportions of the components as they relate to each other. I'll most likely use ratios to get the proper look and feel.

I made some progress on the ROM BOP while working on the 50" Refit and other projects. I've got both of the domes cast now and have painted the exhaust details with gloss black then silver, before I remove the mask, I also taped off the clear cast that I had poured in the bridge section and painted the interior white, then removed the tape to prepare for a lighting test. The clear cast envirotex should evenly transmit the light with the use of a single, ultra bright white LED. I'm doing the same for the lower primary hull... I drilled pilot holes to prep for placement on the back of the upper primary. I need to putty a couple of places and go over it with a final base coat then add the detail. I can see clearly that I'm going to have to come up with new nacelles, to that end I started dissecting the reference material that I have on hand to get the right size and dimensions with regards to the main hull. I'll be using templates from a card model that I'm creating to properly size and create new nacelles.

Doh! Totally got off track with that post. Sorry, my bad.

I'm so glad that everyone is so psyched about my models, especially after they found out that I was the Great and Horrible KirkTrekModeler. I mean really.... Right? I went over the Resin Ignorratti and they are still slamming me, but will not let me in.. speaks volumnes to their.... Anal, Stupiditiy. Any forum that will allow some "Useful Idiot" like Stalin... Er, Uh Jeffery Griffen to post, let alonf to go on personal Vendettas against members that do not suck their... When I think of Griffy, I think of Cartman in der Swastika Outfit! Der Griff Nazi!

I Cannot wait to see him in person AGAIN!

Well, I've kind of let this thread slide.... While I was working on some repairs and corrections for Paul's 350th TOS Enterprise, I looked over and saw the AW Studios ROM BOP and it called to me to get some work done on it.
Essentially, I clean up the hull some more, hit both sides with a lighter primer, created the lighwave guide (Not shown), drilled the rest of the windows and attached the rear fin with coat hanger wire and JB Weld, since I was out of five minute epoxy. I'll be using the aqua-marine green lights as shown in this video, for the forward nacelle lighting, but I'll be using red for the impulse. I haven't decided what I'm going to use for the rear of the nacelles.... Any suggestions?
It's obvious to me that I'm going to have to fill and redrill four, if not five of the upper primary hull windows. Oh well. Should have had my glasses on. It's hell getting old.

Not a problem Paul, but the BOP is not my ship. That's an AW Studios Vacuum formed version of a work that REL put together. I'm currently recreating the nacelles and pylons to make it more accurate, or more to my liking at least. AW Studios should getting ahold of you with pricing very soon. I'm looking forward to you doing the build-up of my version of the TOS Enterprise. I can't wait to have someone build it after five years + of catching crap over it. I'm excited by your enthusiasum(sp?). To have you build it and make a video diary and give the kit an honest appraisal makes working on the masters and mold and casting parts and putting the kit together for you
worthwhile.
