Attention: BANDAI will stop selling kits outside Japan

Thanks for the reply's. I guess I was really looking for the color guides and paint color names. Yes, the assembly instructions are pretty clear.

A very great modeller called TurkeyVolumeGuessingMan over at Starship Modeller site translated the colour instructions for the AT-ST

Body: Neutral Gray 45%, white 45%, black 5%, blue 5%
Pilot's uniform: RLM75 Gray violet 50%, white 50%, with a drop of black.
Pilot's helmet dark green (Mr. Hobby Aqueous color H73)
Pilot's belt: khaki green

Today is a sad day. All the Star Wars Kits from Bandai are disappeared from the HLJ-site... Now we will soon see the prices rising to a new level...:facepalm

The prices will stay high if a lot of people follow and check out the models. Less interest will entice a discount at a future date.
One of the rules of business is to sell your item at what the market will bear.

This is such a dilemma. Do i pay the slightly inflated prices now and get the kits just after release, or do i wait and hopefully the price comes down. or maybe i end up waiting only to see the prices continue to rise and the stocks go down and not have my kits when i really want them.

Iv already spent $100 on the 1/144 scale Falcon and the new X-wing plus EMS shipping to get them as soon as they can be shipped. when that new tie fighter and bb8 are ready i might just be the impatient me as always and get them for $20 more a peice.

This whole fiasco has turned me into a junkie for bandai kits. i just recieved a R2 D2 and R5, Darth vaders Tie fighter and the Y-wing that makes 5 kits purchased just this month. i want the Slave 1 aswell. ahhhhhhh someone please find a cure because im running out of cash :(

Im the poster boy for how panic turns into profit, im so ashamed.

Well if it makes you feel any better as you can see you are not alone. I also have the 1/144 Slave I, Falcon and 1/72 T-70 on the way. I bought these from HLJ before the Disney fiasco (except the Ep. 7 ones of course). I could have waited for the situation to cool down but was afraid Disney would clamp down on small retailers as well. Like I said before, I will not buy Revell's pale imitations. Makes my stomach turn to see on eBay a whole slew of listings for their items and just a few from Bandai. This sucks big time.

you win. i feel much better now lol. two Y-wings, you are not afraid of a heavy part model are you. are you going to build a diarama?

I already am. IMG_0109[1].JPG

Once I build the Ys and Xs I plan to complete my 1/72 FM Millennium Falcon. Then cover the shelf and the wall behind with death star tiles and/or PVC to create an infrastructure. Not an accurate movie scene but I think it will look pretty cool.

Bandai's 1/72 Y-wing goes together surprisingly well, as everything is step by step. I had to set it aside many times, but the only assembly challenge is the 'C' runner of straw-thin tubes and cables. You may have to sand down the underside of the lower yellow 'marking' cockpit piece A27, as it doesn't flush as seamlessly as the top piece does. Also, if you want the steering vanes of a regular Y-Wing, the roll bar on the D10 parts will have to be cut off and sanded down.

Ok after reading the first page of this thread I skimmed forward to the end here... I JUST got 2 Bandai kits straight from Japan with no issues whatsoever. I have not seen anything that officially used the word "Ban" in it other than from people here on the board, so why did that even come up?
Secondly, Bandai can't control what's sold on the secondary market, and these kits aren't illegal to import so why would someone think Customs would seize the kits if shipped here??
Please excuse me if these things have been covered in the multiple previous pages...

Who did you buy from? Hlj has told us they are not allowed to sell them outside of Japan. And they no longer list them on their site

Got them from a seller on Amazon actually, not from HLJ or any of the major importer sites.
This is the way I see it going, pure secondary market. It used to be that way before sites like HLJ came about.

Hehe to be honest I didn't even check HLJ to see if the prices were in-line with what HLJ was charging. Let me see if I can figure out if they were close....

Ok just did a comparison on the Japanese HLJ site and what I paid through the store on Amazon... They charged me 2 dollars more on one kit than what HLJ had it at, but it was also FREE shipping.... so in the end I came out better than if I had used HLJ!

That's great to know! Do they ever have sales on amazon?

What amazon site are you on? I just went to amazon Canada and the 1/48 x wing was $50 more than I payed from hlj

I checked the prices on Amazon's U.S. website for the kits I got from HLJ. For the C-3PO and R2-D2/R5-D4 kits, getting them through Amazon would have cost about $2 more for both (not each), and about $2.50 more for the Scout Trooper & Speeder Bike kit. Of course, those three kits have been available for a while, and it seems the newest and pre-order kits (specifically the 1/12 scale Boba Fett and the Episode VII Millennium Falcon in 1/144 scale) are almost double the price HLJ was asking.

Bandai can certainly control the retailers that it deals directly with--don't ship to certain places or you can't sell Bandai stuff. They can't control others, like individual buyers, who can sell on ebay and amazon, etc. As for whether they are "illegal" in other areas, like the U.S., it might be that since they license is only for Japan, they are technically unlicensed merchandise outside of that market and similar to a bootleg Mickey Mouse t-shirt. My brother-in-law is a lawyer, but he doesn't deal with copyright stuff, but he says it might vary by country, too, since they have their own laws. One person has said that customs in Germany is now opening up all packages from non-EU countries, but that seems extreme and he didn't provide any documentation the last time I checked.

I seriously doubt that any country's customs is going research the regional licensing agreements on even one package they inspect. That's not part of their job. As long as the package is marked truthfully, the item is not illegal, and any taxes/duties are paid, why would a customs agent care about the specific contents of a package?
