Three X-Wings and a Tie Fighter....blowing one up.

Yeah, but you did an incredible job of it!! :D
Thanks. Quite teduis, and I still have to do Red 2 and 3.
3 being blown up will hopefully be easier...right?
I hope....
Got the main stripe on now.

Getting the black painted on the fins. Need to touch up the edges and add another light coat.
Since it has a bit of reflection, as the real ones used coolshade, I decided to mix a little of gloss black into the flat black.
Not the same effect of course, but best I can really do with paint.

Getting the first part done on Red 5.
Don't have as many great reference photos as I'd like, but a lot of the actual model is wrong anyways. One of the other X-wings for sure.
So will do what I can to match things, and parts I'll just interpret it best I can.

What reference pics do you have? I have some, but not sue if you have them already, JediMichael.
These here, which is sized WAY down for here. Just searched google. From all over, even members that had posted pics here in the past.
Even in high res, it can be tricky to tell if its the lighting or a shadow creating a certain color tone or not. So why I'm just interpreting it best I can.

Okay, then let me give you the ones I have that aren't any of these and see if they help you out; as best I can tell, these are Red 5:

Also, I found this online at Moldeler's Miniatures and Magic:

And a paint map done by a member here:

Link: Anyone have Red Five X Wing reference photos?

I'm currently doing prep work on a 2002 Star Wars POTF X-Wing (BIG one) that I will be (hopefully) converting into a studio-scale model) of Red 5. So that said: If I come up with any other references, I'll share them with you as you need them! :)
Thanks.
Although, that first picture, the red stripe ends at the point where it starts on Red 5, past the white line I made here.
Also, the drawing, while pretty good, is that small red stripe by the cockpit on the right side.

Yeah, I noticed that too just after I posted the pics. Some of these will have to be taken with a grain of salt; it's a shame so little material exists! :(
Yeah...and that's why I figure, do the best I can. Once hung, you kind of forget anyways....and anyone the ever comes over, it's like, they look at it for maybe 10 seconds....say it's really cool, and would have no idea if anything was wrong.
So many big time fans I've talked with didn't even realize the number of stripes was their spoken number.
I didn't either, but now, with so much on the internet, it's almost hard to miss.
Or maybe because we obsess over the stuff like this....lol.
Just the insane amout of detail the ILM guys put in that is hardly noticed.
At least we do here....and now they think we're all crazy...especially the studio scale guys.

Red 5 done...other than adding the 4 guns.

Painted the four back engines red with layers of white over top. The bottom right one was actually missing the turbine part. Couldn't find it, so just having to pretend it's there.

Attack Penny.

Well, time to get on this. After so much going on, with a lot I posted in the off-ropic Halloween 2024 thread.
That, and just got playing several video games.
So I got all the main red areas done for Red 2, here next to Red 5.

Reworked the wire for the explosion....and only cut my fingers a few times.
Now to glue the new cotton on.
1000022284.jpg

The good X-wings are nearly finished. Just need to touch up a few spots, and then work on the destroyed one.
1000022285.jpg

I glued on the cotton with an adhesive spray, and then after that, sprayed it with this stuff my Mom had.

Its made it hold together much better than just the cotton glued on only.
The can says clear, but has given it a yellow tint, but being an explosion, works out anyways. Tomorrow I'll spray on more colors.

Heres my explosion. Tried getting a pic of how it looks in person, which is tricky, as all the pics make it look much better.
I think the glow isn't quite as bright in person.
Still cool looking, and then need to add the X-wing parts, once they are painted up.
