AT-AT Driver Costume Construction

Sorry I haven't posted any news on my search. I started looking on Friday but with the holiday, state fair, family stuff etc., I haven't had a chance to look. I'll try to do some hunting tomorrow :)

Getting close on the commpad. Just a few rough edges to smooth out:

BTW, the picture is with one button on it. It will be repeated five times when cast. :)

Does anyone know what the detail inside the hangers are? Looks like some sort of red wire or paper clip with a model kit part or something.

Keith.

I have been racking my brains on them as well I thought they looked like electrical terminal you would maybe find inside a microswitch but couldn't find anything similar.

I think these red things inside the hanger are only in the pre-production pics and not in the film. Could be wrong though.

Cheers Chris.

Sorry for the lack of posts. Real life is a beotch. I have discovered that my hoses are sticky now. Dagnabit. I sprayed hairdryer hose with that paint especially made for plastic. They felt ok at first. Now after a few weeks of hanging up, some oil or something has leeched out of them and made the paint tacky. Not sure what I'm gonna do to fix this. I know, somebody find the right hoses that don't need painting. :lol

It suddenly struck me... does AT-AT drivers have shoulder patches (I spontaneously answer "yes, and they're orange" but I don't think I've seen it anywhere to be honest...)?

Also, the Weldas Softouch FYI-MIG gloves don't do the trick... neither do any of the fencing gloves I've seen... would be WONDERFUL to spot a dead-on accurate AT-AT driver's glove :)

If Sportsmansguide had them in stock, would these do...

Nah :-( Not really.. they're supposed to have seams on the back of the hand and the glove is supposed to be white and the gauntlets part a little more to the grey tone of white... Great try though :)

Can anyone inform me as to whether the AT-AT drivers have shoulder patches or not and in case they do, anyone got a source?

If they did wear patches - and I don't recall ever seeing any - wouldn't they be covered by the armour shoulder bells?<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BWA @ Nov 21 2006, 11:04 PM) </div>

Clutch, any news on those Compads?

Cheers,
Pontus

I have 5 more sets of commpads and hangers on the way. I haven't worked on mine much. Here's a shot of the little piece that fits inside the hanger. I still need to fabricate the 'wire wedge' that goes in the center of each one.

I have also noticed that the liquid tight conduit with my helmet looks rather small with the 'real' hangers. I will probably replace with sections from a GE 48" gas range installation kit hose. Again, not 100%, but a beefier hose.

I've always thought the same thing about the possibility of those being from a nail gun strip. They do appear to be bent over though, which might suggest something else.

Anyone ever identify the base piece for the Hoth Infantry Commpad? I know the small round "buttons" are from the V-8 kit, but the base piece isn't. It looks like it might be from a smaller scale engine kit, though.

I've thought about asking some of the car/military modeling guys, but I'm scared they'll beat me up. LOL. Is it me, or does that piece above look curved? Does anybody have a full pic of the hoth commpad?

some awesome research going on here guys :thumbsup

I have just got my at-at website up and running, it's by no means as in depth as the work going on here but over the next year or so I would like to get a bit more depth in the content.

I have added so great reference pictures to the site so feel free to go and sneak a few ;) I would love to get some of your input too but i would like to get the content as cannon as possible.

I'm also trying to get Ian Liston (mr at-at) to add some of his thoughts on the costume from ESB.

I'm no web wizard and this is my first bash at a website so don't be harsh on me.

Thanks for looking
