ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

I can't wait to get one of those Mausers, Scott! Hopefully I should have enough money saved up in a week or two ^^

EDIT: Also, anyone know what the main body of Master Replicas' DL-44s are cast of? Id assume Zamak, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking of stripping my Elite Edition down and rebluing it entirely; also, the main screw holding the upper down to the lower broke off into the body, so I'd need that drilled out and fixed/welded.)

question.. Why not just sell ur EE MR and rebuilt a new one from scratch. Ull probably come out ahead in the end and have an even more accurate replica regardless? Considering all the new updated, accurate parts that are now available. Seems like ur just destroying an actual lucasfilm licensed product for no real reason at this point?? Unless of course you have already damaged it then I understand.

It's already been weathered and had parts replaced (scope and flash hider), so it's not like I'd be doing anything worse to it anyways :D

But initially, I acquired the EE when I was only a tad too young to own a real Mauser C96, so my only other alternative was a Denix. Since then I've owned two MGCs, but don't have any at the moment. But the issue of modifying my EE is just in the same sense of accuracy as any other Dl-44; just on a nicer base than a Denix in my case ;)

It’s is a “valuable” collectible. But I’d totally do it...maybe. The fun is in the hunt, and finding a base gun that’s different from that used by everyone else, particularly if it’s nice, makes good sense to me!

Well, at the very least I'd keep the magplate unmodified just so the base gun still has the Master Replicas & Lucasfilm makings on it, but the rest I'd like to do something similar to what Steve Dymszo did with his (just with a retooled Bull Barrel, of course). I picked up my EE secondhand with a bit of work done on it already, though like I said I already weathered the scope mounr and crossbar, as well as replaced the scope with one of DEC's old steel ones (with a bit of custom work done to get the Hensoldt Wetzlar engraving complete), and an aluminium flash hider that still needs to be blued.

Also; expect some WIP shots of some in-depth Denix mods I've recently started working on again :)

Here’s the latest I’ve finished… well, I’ve built tons of stuff lately, but I don’t always take photos of commissions every single time.

Anyway, here’s the first Field Marshall accurate Mauser project blaster done, and another Solo’s Hold Rey

scottjua Just admiring ur hero build once more and have a question for ya. Why blue the trigger if you are painting the lower? Wouldn’t it all be painted including the tigger if that was the case or do you think they took the Mauser that much apart when building it originally?? The contrast it gives to the overall look is great but just curious is all.

Maybe; I'd personally guess that even if the trigger was painted originally then it probably all wore off relatively quickly, both from the action of rubbing up into the lower receiver's trigger hole, and just from all the contact with Harrison Ford's sweaty sausage finger ;)

sure anything is possible really but paint generally doesn’t rub off so easily..

With a bit more free time on my hands I've started doing some work on an old Denix I've had laying around. I think this was one of the Mausers that was originally accurized by Boba Debt, as it has the magplate and extractor details machined into it.

Breaking out the JB weld helped me a lot; I went and filled every hole and major casting mark I could, so once the whole thing is blued and painted everything will be nice and smooth. I also took the liberty of chamfered a lot of the troublesome edges; since the Denix is so soft it's hard to get clean edges without removing an exorbitant amount of material on the major faces. They also end up making things just look much cleaner.

Some other modifications include getting ALL the pitting out, reshaping the grip frame to accurate grip dimensions, accurizing the hammer shape, correcting certain alignment issues, reshaping the saftey (also thinning it out so it no longer rubs against the hammer) and sanding the ejection port scallops and trigger guard contours to accurate shape. I still need to get the pins replaced; and once it's all assembled the holes will be permanently filled and sanded out.

I sanded the trigger as much as I dared (also built up the trigger guard contours with JB Weld; this is one of the few areas on the Denix that doesn't have enough material, I've found).

One of the worst areas on the Denix looks so much better now; it resembles a real Mauser's look so much more! Also, anyone familiar with the way the Denix's upper receiver slopes downwards should know that this little addition finally corrects that annoying alignment problem ;)

The screw was countersunk so it sits flush, and no longer bulges out. All these recessed areas have been filled with weld.

Sorry for the lengthy post; it's been a while since I've been active and just want to get back into the swing of things! :D Matty Matt's ESB mods were very helpful in getting my butt back in gear with this thing; it had been laying on my shelf for far too long.

Nice to see you back, Vanitas! With all these fancy new replica options out there it's great to see some good ol' fashioned Denix accurizing progress pics  Looking great so far!

Yes, I'm quite aware - and envious! The next time a batch of those are made I'll have to snatch one up; unfortunately my timing was poor - they were finished just when I left my previous job, so I can't afford to splurge on a whole new blaster base until I get back to work and have a paycheck again. But I'll nab one eventually!!
And thank you; it feels good to be back! Even though I can't help but miss the old RPF look; this new interface's something to get used to :D

Man, I guess I should have waited a year for these new base Mausers. I finally took the plunge and modified a Denix, last year. Ah, well!

Fabulous work, gents!
