Right, mojo? I find for the majority of people I meet, costuming is a hobby not a business. No reason not to share or help out. It IS possible to be a good pirate and a good man....or woman, afterall. I'm so excited and happy that I was able to make something good enough to offer to my fellow angies to use at minimal cost! The paisley plague has come to an end! Huzzah!!!

Hey Aubree! I PMed you at that other website regarding interest in the fabric. How many yards do you think is required for the waistcoat panels?

By the way my fellow Angelicas! My Angelica went to Disneyland yesterday and got these pictures for us!!! The waistcoat sure looks alot different than we first or I first thought!!!

Oh, CJS, I hope I didn't sound mean in my post. I do totally understand selling pieces that are made... I've thought about it myself for the same reason... to fund future costumes! I just find a lot of vendors seriously overcharge for simple things just because they can. Like that defective vest fabric on ebay for $100... JUST for enough for a vest and some leftover. Even still, I'm sure a lot went into making that vest and enough thread to have it embroidered is a little costly but...that costly??

What I meant more was resources. It sets me on fire with anger when people are able to locate things but either buy them all at retail price and resell for huge amounts or just keep the information to themselves.

Sure I spent 3 days working on this pattern, but it's not worth my integrity to only upload a crappy version and keep the full one to print out as much as I want and resell it for $50/y.

Ps. Your missus is amazing for taking those pictures. I seriously cannot express how happy I am right now! <3 pass on my extreme gratitude!!!

I understand and wasn't taking it personally. To process your fabric it would be cool if you made two or three of your item. One for yourself and two to sell just so you can break even or profit slightly to pay for future projects.

With these bloody pirate costumes it is difficult to justify spending alot of money on raw materials and have no one buy stuff but at the same time most people buy at the last minute. It is nice to have a few $100 lying around just to buy stuff I can't make or just don't have time to complete! Now where is that ACME Brand stuff?

So am I in with the Angelica's for the waistcoat material? Let me know and I can help with costs! Now to surprise Avril my seamistress with her new project!

okay. I'm brutal and NEED to stop.

I just remade it...AGAIN ... after taking a closer look on CJS's photos. Holy crap. I was pretty close with detail!!! NICE!!! Still not as clean as someone with skill could make it, but here is the latest version. of the ones I've posted, are there any changes that should be done or reverted back to that aren't there anymore? Opinions? I think this may be the FINAL FINAL one...but because I want to share with everyone, I want to finalize the one that is favored so that it can be used for printing.

( and yes, I TRIED to get the big paisleys to sit where they were supposed to amongst the little ones but everything needed to be resized so I called it a day as a minute detail that will not go noticed. LOL )

And what's the verdict? I see in the new photos the vest almost looks black...but to me, that's just ugly. I've always seen it as a dark green/teal whether it be the lighting or just the blend of colours... I don't think I want to make the background black... what say you?

These were my impressions of the Fabric on Demand and the Spoonflower swatches, FWIW......

Of the Fabric on Demand swatches I think I like the light wt Cotton Poplin the best....I wish is was a little heavier weight, but the med wt. cotton poplin was too heavy, well , not so much heavy as too stiff to the hand.... I really liked the Light wt. Cotton Duck, the texture of it, but it was a tad on the heavy side....by the time you get it lined and trim on it, would be getting an uncomfortable weight to the garment.....
I like the Light wt. Cotton Poplin, while a little on the light side, I think would be plenty hefty once paired with lining and trim.....

On the Spoonflower swatches....
the quilting weight cotton and the organic cotton sateen, I think are both too light weight and not offering anything texturally.....the knit not appropriate, the twill way too heavy, the voile---really lovely delicate little piece totally not appropriate for the vest, but gee I'd love to have a blouse made of it!! The crepe de chine not appropriate for the vest and lastly the Linen Cotton Canvas.....very nice texture, just a little heavy and stiff to the hand, but might be the best choice since linen was very much a fabric of the day mid 1700s....it is a very nice sample.....so I'm going to go with that one, the Spoonflower Linen Cotton Canvas as my overall number 1 pick....with the Fabric on Demand Light Weight Cotton Poplin my number 2 pick.

BTW aelyn, great job on the graphic for the fabric printing, and thank you ever so much for sharing it with everyone. If only that Scott guy in FL that did the embroidered Jack vest fabric had a printing operation as well, we could keep it in 'family' so to speak. It would be nice to have an real expert on board with this --not that Spoonflower isn't, just saying, someone who is on both sides of the fence--into Jack costuming AND a textile expert.

And Capn_Jack_Savvy much and many thanks to your and your wife for taking and sharing the great close up pics of the vest, especially the back, so hard to get reference pics of the back of anything! Certainly clears up a lot of questions for all of us!

Thanks so much Shylaah for the information!!

Because I am a pirate who hasn't seen enough gold lately ( ie. I'm broke and on a budget ) I think I'm going to go with the quilting cotton from Spoonflower. It's totally a shot in the dark for me... I just went to order a test swatch of the print and it's $6 for 20 days or $16 for April 21... that + printing ( $16 ) + rush order fees ( $30 to Canada ) and I'm up to $62 for 1 yard.

I'm quite happy with the print and if it prints out lighter than expected, I'll just dirty it up... if it prints out a bit darker, I'll throw it out in the sun for a day or two. I'll make it work! LOL I'll be satisfied enough with it either way for the movie ( much happier than with what I have now which is a far cry from anything close )... if I want it different in colour or fabric, I can do that with regular shipping afterwards. I'll definitely keep your comments in mind for improving it later on. I wish I had more confidence and made this darn print sooner! Then again, there wasn't a whole lot of reference to work with...

The vest I already made is made with quilting cotton and lined with basic broadcloth and the weight is quite nice, so I'm hoping it will be similar with this one.

( obviously this vest needs a total overhaul on the back ... before I...sell it on ebay? I dont know what else to do with it now. LOL )

EDIT: Has anyone ordered custom printed fabric before? Is it more likely to print brighter or darker?? Wondering if I should make it more or less saturated...

Yeah, prices can add up fast.

So is the deal whoever wants some of the fabric to email you for the graphic and each get their own?

I know there are people here on the RPF who have experience getting custom printed fabric. You might want to start a new thread and ask the question as I don't think too many non-Jack community people read these Jack/POTC threads.

What I'm thinking now is to just link everyone to the spoonflower upload. Apparently since I uploaded it, if other people purchase it I get credited " spoonflower dollars ", which would be very useful considering I think I'm going to be custom printing some fabrics for a couple future costumes as well. And this way, everyone gets it cheap, when they want it, and I get a little treat too.

I AM DONE with the paisley.

It made me cry tonight because my Photoshop kept NOT saving all of the adjustments I did every time I closed it and reopened it and after redoing the same things a trillion times, I just can't handle looking at it anymore.

I hope it's okay for anyone who wants to use it and I apologize in advance for any minor errors that show up on the print. Hopefully they are too small for the human eye to notice.

THE FINAL image for repeat tiling on the print. And I MEAN IT this time! I already ordered mine ( expected April 27 ) so this is IT.

Sending the email out to everyone who requested the full scale image for printing in the next day or two when I've gathered up all the emails and my computer isn't being so glitchy.

I made a darker background-ed version with slight blue hue to it as well... I'll send both to everyone.

Thanks so much for all of your support and appreciation of this project. It's all worth it if even one or two of you can enjoy it in your costuming. =3

I'm going to use my current fabric for a mock-up of the vest that's ready-to-wear. That way, if the good paisley doesn't come in time, I can still wear something to the premiere!

Here's a pic -- I think I'll end up using this for her headband.
