Angelica Teach:The woman, the myth, the COSTUME thread

Yeah, I'm moving back, besides it seems to be more easy going here...IF ye know what I mean. ;)

I know what'cha mean!

I think I mentioned this at KTTC, I was told by a reliable source that is was embroidered...So is that the same as crewel?

I believe crewel is just a different type of embroidery? But is also embroidery... from what I've seen, it's a lot smaller and closer knit, if you will...which is what the paisley looks like it would be if it were in fact embroidered. Google it, you'll see what I mean! ( too lazy to post links, atm. HAHA )

I think I've come across this somewhere or other on the web...though I doubt it would be cheap. *googles* ... ( i'm like the ultimate google-girl lately. XD )

There's this???

......

Why do I feel so incredibly guilty for wanting to buy that?

I think I will. Don't care! About being judged!! That's probably the best store sold costume I've ever seen. However, I have a feeling I'll just use the hat...after altering it...and vest fabric and necklace. I already plan on making my own coat and definitely the corset. And probably shirt. I really just want the vest fabric...
But!!!! When will it be available? In time for may??? I have a feeling it won't be til summer for halloween stock... Ugh....

Thanks Shylaah! I'll have to try the ear hook method. Seems easy enough and relieve the lobe of heavy weight.

I should be wrapping up my earrings and cross soon. Poured the molding material for the cross. Just trying to get the color right with metal powder.

I've noticed that in some scenes Angelica has on the two gold hoop earrings and in the other scenes she has on the gold hoop earring on the left ear and the "jade" dangle (as I am calling it) on the right ear. She is wearing the same outfit in both scenes too!!! :confused

I am also finishing up my belt buckle for her baldric. Not easy but scale is near correct. I am basing the size off of a 1 1/2 inch wide black belt blank that I am using. Seems to fit. Now just to find the conchos.

AHAH... I retract my words after seeing the photos full size on my computer instead of cellphone. is that corset just an extension of the pants!? XD

Though I will still buy it if ONLY for the vest fabric... and the separate deluxe hat, possibly. Hmmm!!

Love the neck lace, definately on shopping list. The belt buckle also handy. New plan - buy costume in the plus size, so I will get plenty of fabric to recut the vest panel and remake.

The deluxe hat looks like the akubra that I purchased last Sunday at the market. The hat below is to take to the USA with me in May (as leather travels better). With a bit of dressing and shaping, I am hoping that it look somewhere between the deluxe and screen version.

I have updated the picture, as I have added the trim to the brim, so far so good.

CJS - I am going for the gold hoop earings as Angelica does wear them. Evil bay does sell clip ons.

copy and pasting from KTTC cause I'm too lazy to rewrite or summarize. XD

Hello, all!

So...I've been counting down days 'til my Caribbean vacation, or as I'm calling it, our Punta-Cana-Pre-Pirate-Preparation-Party. You know...getting real Caribbean tans and rum by the turquoise waters only one week before the movie ( it's 62 days away...and I know you're jealous. I wish you could all come! ... actually, you should. Really. COME WITH US! ). And it has brought me to realize that the movie is coming freaking FAST. It seems like just yesterday that it was officially announced. I'm now thinking I might not have time to make my coat because I've gotten extremely lazy... which is actually fine since I'd rather show off my shoulders anyways and get frustrated wearing too much clothes in hot weather. XD

ANYWAYS.

First step, hat. I know somewhere or other reported it was a brushed velvet hat...and it doesn't really look like it...but a very weathered brushed velvet hat, I actually do believe. SO... in my ebay ventures I found this one.

... which kind of looks like a premium version of the one UM and Angelica used. Same band but a taller crown and wider brim. Photos are often deceiving and it's hard to tell heights and widths and how it looks on a human head however this seller also sells THIS one...

...which is pretty freakin' fantastic, right? Not screen accurate but has an amazing resemblance and looks beautiful! Especially for the price.

This seller is really an incredibly sweet lady and to coincide with her wonderful store and items, she is incredibly honest to boot. I asked her, since the measurements of the hats are the same, if the red band was the base for the Angelica and she replied confirming it was and even went into detail about her customizations to it. <3

All in all, the red band hat being the same as the customized Angelica which is displayed on the head, looks like it's a FANTASTIC starting point. For $11 ( and our CDN dollar being more than yours now! HAH! ) I jumped on it and can't wait to start customizing it on my own. I'm so so so happy with this seller and the photos of the hat on the mannequin are probably the closest I've seen to the shape of Angelica's so I'm incredibly glad it was the same as the customized one and at such a reasonable price. I wanted to share with you all since I personally think it's a great find and this lady deserves the business! ( I was half expecting her to say: Sorry, can't reveal sources. Angelica hat is a great buy for $26! Get that one! )

ENJOY!

Oh. I also got my boots!!! Which are maybe an inch or two shorter than Angelica's but quite similar otherwise. So happy with them. =3

So I have the head done, and the toes done, but nothing in between. Pants I'll probably buy... but vest and shirt should be easy enough. Not sure about the corset yet. I'm thinking of either doing a layer of pleating over a cheap synthetic one or making it basically a giant belt with a zip up or laced up back. WE NEED BACK SHOTS IN THAT RED SHIRT OUTFIT. Argh.

edit: Actually, upon zooming into the beach pic with her and Jack and Blackbeard, you can see there's a different material behind the gold and that there's a split up the front... maybe it fastens by hook and eye? Though, on Penelope, it's obviously made for accessibility and comfort due to the mini pirate in her tummy, so of course a back laced one would probably be more historically accurate...

As for the baldric...I'm not too sure. Anyone know anyone who plans on having some casts made for the buckle before the movie? >_o

Oh and back to the hat, if the fuzzy velvet is too fuzzy, it can be easily remedied and given a weathered, leather look just by brushing, pressing or smoothing it with your fingers and glue... I know this from an experience where that wasn't the planned outcome. Haha...

edit#2: holy cow. struck a gold mine on ebay tonight. so much leather and so many conchos perfect for making my own belt and baldric! just on to the buckles ....... speaking of the baldric, are the two conchos before and after the buckle round where the other ones are more shaped and come off the edge in design? 'cause that's what I'm seeing atm...though it is almost 4am here...

AWEsome and OutSTanding boots Aubree!

They look like riding boots which what I have been figuring out may be what Angelica is wearing!

I am almost finished with the right earring and my eyes are going crossed from staring at screengrabs too long! Hope to finish up by this weekend.

AUUUUGH! <Insert Charlie Brown yell here!>

I wish this were in two inch widths. It is the closest I can find for the hat trim!!!

1" Faux Leather / Wool Braid

If close enough will suffice, try searching for some chainette fringes!

narrow-black-chainette-fringe-trim.JPG

Personally...I think I'm going to buy some braided trim and weave ( or sew ) leather lacing through it. Crazy, right? I know. I already have extra packs of needles for all the ones I know I'll break...

Take a look at some of the really HI RES hat pictures. All you see is the leather lace vertically between the two edges. You can see the quill of the feather very distinctly through the trim. You don't really see the brush fringe at all.

Oh yeah! Something I just through together albeit it took about 10 days to find the appropriate beads and polymer clay items. Angelica's right earring. Haven't found the French Hook or ear cuff so clip on for now! I was trying to stay with lightweight materials.

Love that earring, UM! I think I might use it as my own reference if that's okay with you! :)

The chainette is different than a brush trim. As you can see in the picture, it's quite spaced out... it's like thin stringy fringe on a flapper dress. The brush trims, I believe, are thick to the point of being opaque.

I am SO EXCITED!

Today I found the perfect fabric for the backing of my vest. :D Of course, I forgot to pick up everything else I needed, like the ribbon for the leather lacing on the head and the lace for the ruffles on the the blouse, and I failed at finding faux leather in black... but I got the back of my vest fabric! And I love it! I want to leave the shirt unfinished and skip to the vest now. Ha!

On the coat front, though... I really don't think I'm going to get it done. Not only am I super lazy, but I can't find fabric I like for it for the life of me. Also... I kinda really like my vest fabric anyways so I would feel sad making that and then covering it all up! We'll see, I guess......

I think it's time I stop being a troll and say hi! I'm also trying to get in on this Angelica Teach madness and my boyfriend will, of course, be Captain Jack.

So far, I only have boots. But they're lovely. I'll post a pic of them once they arrive, but for now I'll show you guys the pic on the website. It looks like they're short, but they're actually over-the-knee. My only qualm is the sole of the boots, but I'm willing to look past that for the fact that they have 2 buckles, a slight heel, and an open back.

Looking forward to dissecting with you all :]
