I just ordered my normal shoe size and let the bottom half of the back padding in, that way it will still fit, and have all of the support, but not leave a gap when it's attached to the costume. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not, but I can take a pic to show you what I mean haha.

I made a prototype mask from scratch to get my sewing and puff paint skills sharp before ordering a print, and I found that, for the red hexagons, attaching a mechanical pencil tip to my puffy paint gave it a very fine controllable flow. I just ghetto'd that thing on with duct tape and it worked pretty well.

Great idea! I have a few tips on order but if those don't pan out I will be trying yours!

Amazing WIP thread.

I have a question about the Puff Paint. Can it be laundered in a washing machine? Will it hold up over time? Or does the suit have to be dry cleaned?

That's a great question. The bottle of puff paint says machine washable. I don't think I will chance it though. If I need to, I will be getting it dry cleaned.

I can image walking into a dry cleaners and placing a spidey suit on the counter. May get some strange looks.

I suppose it wouldn't be much of a hassle to go back and paint the areas that were left out.

How are you planning to attach the shoes to the suit? I've heard of a few ways, but was just wondering if you came up with any nifty alternatives.

I was thinking of using permeant fabric glue or rubber cement. As long as it is flexible once it dries.

Based on your regular shoe size, what size shoe would you recommend buying since you have to take out all the padding? I'm normally a size 9 - 9.5 US.

I went with my actual size. Even with all the padding ripped out (not that there was much in there), they fit great!

I've heard mainly fabric glue. I think I read somewhere that someone was going to fabric glue it and then sew it on too.

Either way, I just finished my shoes using your methods!

Eye Pattern and Dried Puff Paint

I went to all of my local craft stores and I couldn't find any of the tips i was looking for. I had to order them online so I am platting the waiting game for them to arrive. On a positive note: I found them online for $1.49 each! At that price I purchased 12 to play it safe.

While I have this 'time' I decided to work on the eyes. I'm going with TaylorMcManus' idea and prating on transparencies and using gold window tint to give the reflective effect. It took me about 2 hours in Photoshop to get the pattern just right, but I think I did! The size of the hexagons look perfect! (to me at least) I am luckily enough to have a laser printer at home so I was able to print them out right here. (You need to have them prated on a laser printer, inkjet will smudge) Here are some pics along with my reference image.

The gold tint is on order and should be here in a couple days. Now to figure out how to make the frames... :/

Hey Jeff, for your asics, did you just get your normal shoe size or go a size up or does it not really make a difference ? lol

Here is a quick picture of the puff paint dried. The red really darkens and the paint seems to shrink a bit. I think it looks better than it did wet but that could just be my eyes.

Looks great Jeff! I have a bad feeling that Taylor's pattern might not have enough shadow once the puff paint is applied.

I just wish puff paint was thinner lol cuz on the movie suit its almost basically flat

For those of you looking to make perfect lines during painting, especially on those shoes, don't forget your Frog tape.

Seriously, this stuff is AMAZING. You get THE most straight edges. It's for painting walls and stuff, but I use it in all my prop painting when I need to mask.

AMAZING stuff.

The new tips arrived last night. HUGE difference. The lines go on much thinner and are far easier to control. Here is a pic showing the difference between the stock tip and the new tip. Stock is above the yellow line and new tip is below.

Here are a couple more angles of the puff paint dried on the print.

You can really see the dark red when it's dried. It's comming out really good!!
