Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy) (Suit Complete!)

Hey Jeff the bottles with the little metal tips are the way to go man, you have a hell of a lot more control with the smaller bottles too. You do have to keep refilling but I just take that as time for a break

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

Dude those shoes look excellent! Good advice about using Sharpies in the lower portion. I'll remember that.

And from that picture, I'd say you're doing great on the hex pattern so far. But if it is already proving to be difficult, you should go with your gut and explore other options. Perhaps it will be worth it to use those bottles with the metal tips after all? But I totally understand your reservations about pouring all of the paint into a different bottle.

Thanks! The sharpie idea actually came from TaylorMcManus. I can't remember what thread I read it on. I read a lot :) It's a great method!

For the tip I am going to try the tips from Aleene's Patch & Applique Glue mentioned by MCL34N in one of his threads. (again I can't remember where) He mentions that they are sealed and you can cut them to size. Instead of cutting them though, he punctures the top with a needle. Thats how he did his suit. The best part is that the tip screw right on to the stock bottle of puff paint.

Looking good, man! A lot better than my attempt with the puff paint haha.

Yeah I remember reading that. Good plan. Lol his word is like gospel around here. Let us know how it turns out.

And yeah, if those tips screw right on to the original bottle that sounds like an easier approach than having to pour into another bottle. Although personally I might end up trying both ways. These suits are pretty large after all. That's a whole lot of hexagons you're going to be tracing. :)

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

Do you need to get "slick puffy" paint? I mean, I've got acces here where I live to Red, black and all sort of colors from Tulip brand.
Got access to glitter, slick and puffy (but not "slick puffy" In case it exist). So I've got the option to get puffy red OR slick red.

Good question. According to various other posts & pictures I've seen, I think you really want just the 'Slick Red'. I think the 'puff' part is just implied? From what I'm seeing online, Tulip definitely does make a "Puffy" class of paint, but I think what people are using for this suit is the "Slick".

Check out this photo from Post #3 of this thread:

Assuming that Jeff got the same paint as everyone else, that's the bottle you'll be wanting to buy.

Looking great!

Is the puff paint going to be in the way when the suit is sewn together? Would that even be a problem?

I have to find a seamstress first to get their opinion. :) For now i am leaving it an inch away from the edges.

Here is a quick picture of the tip of the shoe masked with one coat just so you have an idea of what it looks like.

Also, the puff paint has dried and looks a bit different than when it was wet. (as it was in the previous picture) I think it looks better! It shrinks down a bit and get much darker. I'm feeling much better about the whole thing!

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

Post some more pics of it dried tomorrow. I'm gonna be honest when I was scrolling I couldn't tell where the puff paint was on the print. Cudo's to you for a great start and Taylor for a great honeycombs look raised print lol :)

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

I heard of using a Sharpee for the blue part on the side of the sole.
Did you use red Sharpee for the toe part too?

EDIT: oops. Nevermind.

Really looking forward to seeing how this all turns out.

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

I made a prototype mask from scratch to get my sewing and puff paint skills sharp before ordering a print, and I found that, for the red hexagons, attaching a mechanical pencil tip to my puffy paint gave it a very fine controllable flow. I just ghetto'd that thing on with duct tape and it worked pretty well.

Amazing WIP thread.

I have a question about the Puff Paint. Can it be laundered in a washing machine? Will it hold up over time? Or does the suit have to be dry cleaned?

Thanks,

Bill

I suppose it wouldn't be much of a hassle to go back and paint the areas that were left out.

How are you planning to attach the shoes to the suit? I've heard of a few ways, but was just wondering if you came up with any nifty alternatives.

Keep up the inspiring work!

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

Based on your regular shoe size, what size shoe would you recommend buying since you have to take out all the padding? I'm normally a size 9 - 9.5 US.

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

I usually wear a 10 1/2 - 12 (Nike's run big). Based on what I have heard of the Asic Dirt Dog 3's I ordered a 10 1/2 for myself.

I just ordered my normal shoe size and let the bottom half of the back padding in, that way it will still fit, and have all of the support, but not leave a gap when it's attached to the costume. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not, but I can take a pic to show you what I mean haha.

Thanks. I think I understand what you mean. If you can post a pic, that would be cool too. Thanks again!

Re: Amazing Spiderman Suit using TaylorMcManus' print (Pic Heavy)

Hey Everyone,

I have been following bulids of ASM suits for the last couple of months now. I've picked up on a lot and decided to give it a go myself. I'm going to use this thread to document my progress.

I was on the first run for TaylorMcManus' prints. The print arrived about 2 weeks ago. I am overwhelmed with the quality. For those who are waiting on the second run, it's well worth it!

I plan on using the puff-paint technique that MCL34N came up with to go over the dye sub honeycomb pattern. As well as Asics Dirt Dog 3 shoes for the soles.

Any suggestions anyone has along the way would be appreciated! It's my first time taking on a project this big. My goal is to have it completed by Halloween.

Thanks!

Jeff (aka jeffscpu)

The suit looks awesome, just as it is in the box. Can't wait to see it sewed up.
