what was wrong with the double wire and rubber 3M tape? that looked perfect! I'm pretty sure that's exactly what's on the real one.
The vacuum hose should do well also. Maybe more of an idealized look without the overlapping tape seams. Interested to see how it turns out!

When I wrapped the pole it just didn't look right and it was driving me crazy. The 3m tape im still going to use but the wire was too bubbly. Here's a good illustration of the problem I was having

the wire i have gave me the right width but it was too bubbly looking. If the hose is cut properly in sections of 2 it should give me the look im after.

Also the top wrap is very horizontally wrapped i could not achieve this with the wire. The hose however when scrunched down is very horizontal all the way around.

The photo on the left isn't blown up to the same size as the one on the right. Its just a comparison image

The right size rod for the correct amphenol connector is just over 12mm. If i used a rod greater than 5mm for the piping it would look odd
