Even if you proved he knew it was a fake, [might be tough] is lying enough to be banned, if he did not directly profit from the lie ?
People have been banned for less, if anything he should be banned for being a shill

Okay, I just looked up shill. ;)

He actively promoted the sale of the auction phaser. No doubt, there. Actively promoting something that is a fake for sale as if it is real, is going against the community, and by extension, this board, and it's members. If a person believes this auction phaser is a fake, then yes, there is no doubt that he is a shill. The one follows from the other.

I spoke of odds, at some point, I believe. The odds seem higher than ever before that this is a fake. But I don't think that it has been absolutely proven. If he was a shill before it was proven to be a fake, then that's still up to the mods, on interpretation. People have been banned for less, but his being quiet after a certain point works in his favor. If he voluntarily restricted his behavior, then involuntary punishment may be unnecessary.

He shut up when he knew the jig was up besides this was not the first time he ran into trouble here

Right. I haven't seen the other issue.

Again, Mods would decide if this is a PATTERN of behavior.
They could choose to prevent this pattern from continuing.

"Bakelite
rare, smells when grinded."

Yeah it does, I drilled into some gun grips to custom fit them once and it has this gasoline kind of smell straight away. Obviously a destructive test though.

4) Herocomm, who have severely damaged their reputation with their awful endorsement of this prop based on nothing but assurances from sources they never named, having completely discarded their prior level of commitment to detail, analysis, and screen matching. They look like fools and shills now.
This one to me, at least until we find out who else is involved, if we ever do.

I also doubt the phaser legitimately sold, but some people don’t do any research and just roll with the description, so it IS possible, I just don’t think likely.

Added: and yeah, Highliner did not end up looking good in this.

I tell my wife some of this nerd stuff, to amuse myself I guess. LOL Anyways she mentioned a woman who forged historic figures documents and many sold as real for years. She fooled experts. Maybe experts over time, start to believe their own expertise too much? I'm not saying it's intentional but maybe there is an expiration date on it for some subjects, or laziness and not doing the work to remain an expert as times change and get more complex. Without some kind of critical examination in a scientific method way, like screen matching items as one such method, it's just words. And frankly, my trust in experts in a lot of fields has diminished over the years because what was the conventional wisdom and accepted later ends up.. not so much. Maybe not as black and white as was presented on some subjects. Partially correct, way off on others. Total 180 turns even. We've all seen the "studies" as news... coffee good, coffee bad, etc etc. Now throw in lots of money to be made or reputations... who knows?

Do you often get The Look?

I don't think it sold. It has quietly gone back into the drawer where the con artist pulled it from where it will sit and not surface for another 20 years.

This has been something of a public relations disaster, hasn't it? The confirmed discovery of another genuine TOS hero phaser should have sent shockwaves throughout the community.

Instead...this. Tons of unanswered questions, shady behavior, no transparency, etc.

Is there a way to know if it *actually* sold or if it was a fake sale?
Yes.

The absolute silence from the "buyer". It will never show up anywhere, zero social media, no "your props", no article interview about the person lucky enough to snag the last surviving hero TOS phaser. No displays at cons or museums. It will slip into the annals of shame in the forgers house.

Most anyone else that purchased this will A) insure it B) show it off and possibly C) profit from it.

Oh, it just hit me.....

I wouldn't be surprised if that is the next stop for this fake. Now that it's been "authenticated", it is ripe to become a victim of a mysterious theft.

Let's let the dust settle and see if they issue a press release. Most buyers remain anonymous, with the exception of museums that normally do announce the acquisition, but the house usually crows about quarter of a million dollar sales. So far, I only found it on their Twitter feed - as it happened.

And if a genuine phaser should happen to turn up sometime, even with impeccable proof, it'll be met with even more doubt and skepticism, all because of this crap.

The twist plugs look identical to me, the only difference is that the HA is sanded more neatly than the GJ. These shots are from the same photo with the same amount of zoom.

My build using a modern nylon plug, sides sanded flat on a disc sander. The fiberglass filler shows as yellowish fibers running throughout the plug, not seen in the two above. Also note the exposed open area that extends the full length on the two above (filled in with gray epoxy), but stops half way down on the modern plug.
