But I gotta say, all you guys in this thread were awesome in poking holes in this thing. I'd trust you over Jein and Herocomm any day of the week. Kudos to you all!

You can bet that because this forgery sold for so much, another hero will miraculously turn up for auction. It's just easy money and the auction house appears to be in cahoots with the forgers so keep an eye out for the next hero!

Truth has a way of getting out. Eventually this prop will be screen matched, or it won’t. Whatever the case, eventually it’s history will be known. I hope that history stretches all the way back to season 2 of Start Trek, I really do.

As I’ve already written (probably too many times), I have my doubts.

It's a moot issue. Until such time as the buyer comes forth, if the buyer ever chooses to, nothing more will come from further discussion.
I suspect there was no buyer. I think this was an auction as fake as the item (not) auctioned. Heritage didn't appreciate the heat and the con artist couldn't risk more scrutiny from a buyer that would have every right to. A psuedo buyer was found in the 11th hour that on the surface, absolves all parties with an agreement between them that this fake never sees the light of day again. So I think we've seen the last of this fake.

I have more info on it since I recognized it right away.

Yeah, given the scrutiny TOS has enjoyed, I seriously doubt any of the hero phasers were previously misidentified. I wouldn’t go as far as calling it impossible… but it’s damned unlikely.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that TOS is the most obsessed-over TV show in history. Has anyone recreated the I LOVE LUCY or M*A*S*H soundstages in exacting detail? Nope.

Trying to sneak one past obsessive fans who have HD screencaps of every episode is not the smartest move.

I talked to Art and applied for membership.
I enjoyed this forensic analysis on the phaser and everybody’s observations.
First I should say, that I have to talk to my friends involved about what I can say and what I can’t.
I assisted Hero in the investigation but I wasn’t involved or one of the people responsible for any decisions, I just gave info when asked.

Now that the auction is over I hope things can be known as they should.
This thread has been a really good investigation and every one has an opinion and one of mine is I don’t think the P1 is one of mine.
The shape isn’t a S&W, it’s a different one (or shape modified.) Like the P2)
I have seen a couple of my heros “modified” over the years to have sound chips. I felt like they had been butchered.
And we’ve seen the heavy handed wear simulated on replicas but looking at the P2 several things pointed at it being one of my heroes. I’ll get into that as time permits.
I have 10 hero phasers on my work table right now I’m finishing up.
