11th doctor waistcoats

On a side note, I notice in the photos he was wearing his waistcoat wrong. You're meant to leave the last button undone. Though to get back on topic, good luck with your search.

That's hipster nonsense. Traditionally, the last button is only left undone if it's sewn on out of alignment, for example like on Tom Baker's waistcoat. Modern waistcoats are longer because of lower waisted trousers, and because they extend below the natural waist and closer to the hips, the last button is often left undone because the waistcoat won't close properly over the hips. For clothes that fit properly, all regular buttons can, and IMO should, be buttoned.

I think that's a matter of debate! The (probably apocryphal) explanation is Edward VII's waistline started the trend. I think as a rule doing up all buttons is a no-no but if I'd make an exception it would be on a waistcoat.

I've never seen that explanation used for waistcoats before, only suit jackets. I agree with the jackets, but I still find it a bit ridiculous to be restricted in such a way because one guy hundreds of years ago was too fat for his own clothes.

Sorry I spoke now! :p only mentioned it because it's the only thing I remember about my late grandpapa, something he was very particular about.

Yeah that was me lol. I found it and got the first one made..

Here it is. Looking at it now it seems similar but the pattern looks more pronounced in a diamond shape. What you think?

I don't know if this is closed, but I made an account just to ask for all details on this. I've been looking for this for ages and can't find anything about it.

So, to add to this thread, this blog has the best info I've seen on the waistcoat (and every other aspect of any Doctor's outfit ever!):

And from a later blog entry, this is the ~exact~ shirt that Matt Smith wears in the anniversary:
Blue End on End Shirt
Its...a tad expensive. Magnoli has a pretty good waistcoat, though they've been unable to source or replicate the purple material (I asked). It doesn't have the white stitch trim on the buttons, but it does have the 4 pockets and other details:

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had done some research into the style and type of cufflinks worn with Matt's shirts, specifically the shirt in the first picture at the top of this thread and his 50th Anniversary/blue one, if there was any variation between the two of course. Any input would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

I know he wears some pretty simply black round ones at some point. Here's a very similar example from our shop:

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Hate to necro this thread, but I have been in the market for the Season 7b waistcoats and was wondering what the current status and availability of replicas for these just so happened to be? Particularly the Day of the Doctor/50th Anniversary coat as it is my personal favorite of the bunch.

Thank you kindly :)
