11th Doctor blue bowties / series 6 costume discussion

Yeah think I preferred the old one, I don't mind a bit of change but the general silhouette should remain fairly similar. I guess this one will grow on me too and on screen may work well but for me it'll always be the tweed and bow tie for 11. Even just the green coat last year was a bit too much of a change for my liking!

Well i didn't really mind the coat in series 6, what mostly sets me off about this costume is propably going to have to be the waistcoat, it's such a new thing for him. And the simplicity and contrast of the whole outfit, in my mind, that coat is too simply and plain for the Doctor. But it does go well with his intial geography proffessor look.

Well, i did sort of post that without thinking about it, but i saw at least three or four different pairs of waxed jeans when i recently went on a trip to New York, one of them (found in the Lincoln Center century 21 store, did look quite similar to the ones worn on screen, though they weren't G-star). I myself found a pair of Tommy Hillfiger cotton jeans that are such a dark shade of black that they almost look waxed, they certainly aren't what i'd call Screen Accurate though. But wouldn't it perhaps be easier to find a black pair of jeans and do the waxing business (that sounds wrong :/) yourself?

ON A DIFFERENT NOTE: I just did an article over on dw-cosplay about the different options for the Series 6 great-coat, Doctor Who Cosplay and Costuming - Finding the right coat. If anyone's interested.

EDIT: For example buying this pair, http://eu.levi.com/en_DK/shop/products/male-Bottoms-Jeans-&-Pants/501-Jeans-00501-0165.html?insearch=true and doing the waxing yourself, might be easier, i saw a bunch of articles about waxing Jeans by just googling it, although i didn't read any of them. I must say, i can't say i'm a jeans expert, since i never wear Jeans myself.

Found a few more potential options: although they're both wrong in their own ways.

This pair does have a finish that almost looks waxed though: http://www.asos.com/Religion/Religion-Zip-Waistband-Slim-Coated-Jeans/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=873058&cid=5054&Rf-200=4&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black

I have contacted one of the overseas vendors for the knockoffs. He emailed me back immediately requesting pics, after that no reply. one of the other members here found a nice pair in the UK for 85.00, but with the conversion rate may be a bit much for me.

I think I am going to order the closest pair I can find (probably the pic I posted), but, order them as long as I can, and use the extra fabric from the hem to make any necessary mods.

Everyone thinks this is a one off due to the supporting cast all being victorian. The main thing about the 11th doctor is the bowtie and TWEED. So you will not be at the back of the bus at all my friend. In fact you, like me, are very much on the bus.

I'm still stuck at Time of the Angels, so i suppose. I'm hanging outside on the back of the bus. Or i'm walking. The again, i have got a semi-accurate Shetland tweed. So maybe, i'm cycling to school? That's new, never tried that before.

Ugh! ANOTHER coat to replicate!
I will say that while I will probably do this one just for fun, I won't be getting anywhere near doing it nearly as SA as my Shetland (which I still need to post pics of). I just love that Shetland so much. I'll be getting plenty of RL wear out of that jacket.

Hmm i know this might be a bit irrelevant, but i found this picture, showing the doctor wearing the doctor with 2 buttons closed, quite interesting. It also shows just how slim fit the jacket really is, i don't even think it's possible to close the third button.

It is very slim fit, but that's probably not the reason the bottom button is undone. Men's suit etiquette has always been to never button the bottom button on a jacket.

Hmm, the purple costume looks rather nice, one-off or not I doubt the tweed would ever disappear entirely.

Can I ask Doctor Who fans to take a look at this thread and help where they can: The Doctor's costume

It is about screen used costumes so I posted it in that area but the stats for this site show most of the readers are in the replica areas so just a heads up!

For those of us here who live in the UK who are slim....there are a pair (they say 3 available) of 28x34 Replica ( at least that is what I am assuming based on the price) GStar Raw Blade Slim in Crushed Black for £29.99 on eBay UK. Someone should grab them.

There's actually a perfect lining for that coat at Jo-Ann's. It's brown and tints purple in sunlight.

I'd be happy to get the sku for you guys next time I go in on Saturday. It's either the baroque satin or one of the several brands of lining fabrics. I have to look at them all together again.
