Wow...this is looking amazing.
Going to be a true display piece, centerpiece really.

I'm still trying to get my painting/weathering just up to par and you, Korben and a hundred or more pros here have me wanting to delve into lighting...

Anyway, just beautiful.

Hey, thanks Jimmer! I have to admit my paint and weathering is still not what it should be, but I'm working on it. Like you, I'm closely following the other guys, seeing what they do and how they do it. My lighting skills also are not the best but I will say I've come a long way since I first jumped on the site here about 2 years ago thanks to of course the other fellas here...showing me the way! I'm actually starting to think it would be a shame to tuck this one away in the back of that diorama so this one may have to be a stand alone. And though the MPC in there isn't a slouch, it's going on a year or so old and it could have been way better. I've still got 2 or 3 in the closet and a couple more sets of upgrade parts so I may do another MPC for the diorama. And oh yeah man, the lighting! That's actually my favorite part anymore. With all the components available these days, for me it's a waste of time to build something without it. (y) Once you start doing lighting, it's extremely addicting...you'll end up like me

The Fine Molds could work on a number of levels.

it's one way to hide the parallel mandible issue sine you don't really view it head on, plus I believe the ESB set was little undersized, so the Fine Molds would probably look more correct than the Bandai in relation to things since it is little bit smaller

That's kinda what i was thinking too. I took it out once to compare it to the MPC and noticed the difference. Well, it's decided then!(y)

The one in the dio now is promised to my buddy on Maui. I sent him the hideous first MPC way back. Then after I realized how grossly inaccurate they are out of the box, I was ashamed of it and promised him a better one at some point, LOL
Ok so lets see...finish PG...build FM, then DeAgo, well maybe not in that order. As soon as I come of the PG I'm gonna be hot to get the big bird built. I'm gonna be up to my eyeballs in Falcon building for a while  I may never get to those left over MPC's

here's the ugly duckling...i had him send me pics of it a month ago to show Korban how awful it was. but i guess when you consider it was my first build after a 10 year break from modeling, it isn't too awful, but still

That looks great considering how lacking the original MPC is regarding sidewall heights and surface details

Thanks brother, i guess it wasn't that terrible considering the the kits failings...or rather the failings of whatever clown designed the kit to start with

one a more happy note, though it wasn't much progress...any progress is good  i got the wall section glued in and almost finished the lighting. looked up at the clock and had to put everything away...light test tonight and pics tomorrow (y)

Hey Ross ,
Progress on this build is chugging along at a fairly quick pace - which is not surprising considering who’s involved !;) . The speed at which korben and you work amazes me !(y)
Just a quick question regarding your lighting . The image on your post above , looks like you soldered all of that in situ , and if so , were there any issues with the iron being that close to the plastic ? Did you have to take any precautions ?

Cheers Ged

Me? Fast? LOL, not even...I think Kris must be an insomniac or something. He's the one working in hyper-drive  he's always got at least two things going at one time. We'll be texting and it's like 830, 9pm in AZ for me...he's on the east coast! the guy must run on a couple hours sleep a night! but then he's a young man yet and can still get away with it.
No problems with the iron and plastic, it's a mere second rolling the tip over the area. i usually run mine at like 450 I think and i can even hold a piece in my hand (at least a 3/4 inch away) for a few seconds till it starts to get hot on the fingers. but at long as the two things to be soldered are touching without a fuss keeping them together...easy peasy

Good to know..., So you’re using a variable heat/power iron then ?
What about solder flux - ever used that , is it worth while to your mind in aiding or speeding up the soldering process ?

Yes sir, a variable, one of the last things i got from Radio Shack before they closed all the stores. I've just been using flux core solder from the local hardware store, easy(y)
