1/72 Hoth Echo Base Hangar diorama

very interesting...o_O...you don't mean to say that in my FM falcon there are standing figures lurking in the runners?? All I ever did was open it to compare hull pieces with the MPC...and I haven't even looked at the instructions!

Yes there indeed is. Merry Christmas

There are standing figures of a New Hope Leia, Luke with a Stormtrooper gun and belt, Han with a gun, 2 Stromtroopers. I could be wrong, but no standing Chewie pose from what I remember though. They are not quite as good as the Bandai figures, but they also aren't standing stiffly at attention either

I would love to see some 1/72 and 1/48 model figure kits similar to the World War II stuff for Star Wars. It does seem like an untapped market

Of course it is entirely possible that the figures shown in that image are not the actual figures you get in the Gashapon packs

Those figures I posted though sure look like they might have been standing figures they initially considered including with the Falcon

yet another discovery by Mr. Not Tech Savy...evidently I can't spell either
Anyway, Mr. IPhone...if in camera, you touch the screen where there is glare or crap focus it boxes in and cleans it up. So, I got some much better pics of this. I also added an LED in the kit position to light up the bottom of the ramp better, but it still kinda sucks. I think I'm going to take that one out and just do two more clear back like the other 8. you won't see them of course but that's better anyway and I think it will illuminate the entire entry way more evenly. Am I getting too far into the weeds on this? Probably, but I'm thinking I'm only going to do this one PG and since the boarding ramp is a focal point to the observer, I ought to get it right if I can while I'm there. The failings of the cockpit lighting were just a matter of space available to stuff lights in there. I'm thinking had I given it more thought I could have done it better still. But then, it's not glued together yet either...hmmm

Well that's a bit odd...isn't the FM an ESB version kit, with 5 landing gear? Why would they supply ANH figures with an ESB ship? Or am I way off base?

I of course agree with the latter part of your post, particularly given the aches and pains I had with figures for the dio. A designer who is good with figures could likely make out very well coming up with a full line of stuff. Varying poses, this episode, that episode, etc. Given of course that they were reasonably priced. For instance, the groups of ESB rebel troop sets I discovered towards the end of the dio project. Had they been available sooner I would never have fooled around with the German mountain troops.

I make typos all the time, especially in regard to hitting the wrong key on the keyboard. I always seem to type ; instead of ' i.e don;t rather than don't or teh instead of the

It's always harder to tell from pic in regards to the lighting as it tends to overexpose if the room is too dark

Although I think the lighting level looks great in the pics above. Pics 2 and 3 look just right to as far as the lighting

But as you said, you are only building one so now is the time to fix anything bugging you rather than being bugged by it after it is finished

Not only the ESB version, but the 32" model they built

The sitting figures are ESB for Leia and Han, but all the standing figures are for ANH

I guess they wanted people to be able to do the Death Star escape scene even with the ESB version

And here I am the guy who is always saying I'm not a purist for most things, but in some cases it needs to be, somewhat at least.
And thanks, other than the correction I mentioned I'm happy with the lighting. I thought that one extra LED at the end would take care of the dark spot, but since it's an inch or so into the it and pointing straight rather than down, it didn't quite get it done. but, easy fix. I set all my LED's with that laserbond stuff so it's always easy to pop them back out without damaging anything(y)

Weird.

This is the Vader I saw. That link above has different Stormtrooper poses as well

I guess I'll find out when they arrive. I'm actually kind of hoping for the variety of poses and Vader with the light Saber

Aha. Looks like a different set, then! :)

I would never have fooled around with the German mountain troops.

Really, you can't ask for a better life lesson than that.

i thought about replacing them all, but i had already gone way over what i thought i was going to spend doing that dio anyway

interesting...i just got an order confirmation from Tesla's Toys for those figures...their description says, "Bandai" Star Wars figures...
Analyzer... any speculations?

I believe the "hero" figures are pre-painted, but the stormtroopers are not
Well that sounds good, I hope the faces aren't disproportionate...but if they are in fact a Bandai product all should be cool. The paint on them looked a bit off, but we'll see...there's always oven cleaner:lol: I'll do pics when I get 'em(y)

I picked up all but the Vader one and the C-3PO one

I didn't get the Vader one since assuming the picture is accurate, is the same as the one that was in the Vader Tie kit. The C-3PO one I didn't need either since I repositioned the PG Falcon one. Although if the Vader one turns out to be the same that nkg posted then I will have to pick that up as well

Ok, did quite a bit today...finalized the entry ramp lighting...then started to mess around with the red clearance lamps. .75mm FO seems the right size, but the illumination isn't so good. I usually clean all the 3D stuff as soon as it comes so it's ready to use...these however need a bit more meticulous work. need to get my hands on a dental pick to really clean out the inside. I scraped with the hobby knife but it need more because the illumination should be a bit brighter. So I'll scrounge up something, maybe take a paper clip to the bench grinder and put a fine edge to it, then wash them again with rubbing alcohol. Perhaps they to polish the outside with something. They ain't supposed to look pink. If that doesn't get it, I'll have to use the 1.8mm red LED's I got for a just in case.
In other news...I decided one landing gear bay light per, isn't enough for me. I had always done two each on the MPC's, evidently this is no different. So, I mocked it all up, figured out what needed to be drilled and where, found I needed a spacer ring to bring the 3mm LED back up inside enough to be at the same level as the stock rear location. Evergreen tube worked but had to flatten it on one side because it was so close to the inner wall of the well. Had to do the same with some of the landing light "cans" I made. Then of course I was in such a rush to get the lights it, I stabbed the gear assembly BEFORE I thought to do the dangling hydraulic hoses  So it was a surgical process which required chucking the drill bits as far out as possible...but I got er done. BTW, Merry Christmas my friends and have safe happy holidays(y)

You know what...I think I have one of those Ties in the closet...haven't opened it...but I will now as well as do a more thorough inspection of the FM Falcon to see what goodies are lurking inside LOL(y)

Lighting looks great. Love the effect on the landing gear

For cleaning shapeways prints, I found soaking in Dawn dish soap works wonders. It gets rid of that waxy surface. Even better if you put the part in an ultrasonic cleaner (like you would use for jewelry)
