Mr V's painting Master Class! KISS- Keep It Simple....
Painting on this scale i am mixing buckets of paint and washes. Standard house painting brushes are used.
I use the following system of paint applications;

1) The base coat (thick straight out of the can)
2) Cream wash -slightly watered down.
3) Tea wash- very watered down.
4) "wax on wax off"- apply the paint then remove whilst still wet. No mercy.

I am using black burnt umber and burnt sienna for the washes.

Below are two examples of 3 (Tea) and 4 (paint removal)

You can see how the wash has totally changed the base coat.

I stood the bulkhead upright so i could get the wash running in the "direction of flight".

Weekend is done. I am done.
Completed painting the bulkheads and cannons today and sealed them with a rattle can matt coat.
I have overdone the battle damage (in comparison to the film prop) but i want that look of a returned from battle ship.

I cannot weather the main ship and wings until a break in the weather.

With a rain soaked weekend some of the parts came inside. Lucky the wife is away...

A weekend win. Managed to find the correct jet joystick at a local Aircraft Museum. Whats more important is that it was located in an open cockpit display. I managed to convince the museum volunteer that my cause was of global benefit and he let me take some clay molds of the stick. To limit any damage to the stick i wrapped some soft but firm earthenware clay in cling film and took pressings. Made some casts the next day as this type of clay drys very fast. These will provide me with a perfect base to make a master as i will need four of them. Thanks again to Wavey for spinning me around and pushing me in the right direction.

Actually i forgot i made these. They got buried in the work shop.
Ailerons! I made these with a nice thin 3mm ply which allowed me to get that nice aerodynamic profile. Reference shots are rare so i have based these on the Bandai and ILM model versions. I will eventually make these work (possibly attach them to foot peddles) but for now i will just have them hinged.
