Render, Laser Musket.1.jpg

I have been working on a design for a functional Fallout 4 Laser Musket. If you are on my Discord you were able to see this project come together live over the course of the past week. Above is my design intent rendering of the completed CAD model. (Without rust and weathering effects)

It will be built from real materials wherever possible, and is game accurate.
As usual with my projects it will have many functions. The CAD model alone has nearly 500 parts!

The features are as follows:
  • Laser emitter that illuminates the front lenses.
  • Laser that illuminates the core of the glass tube.
  • Narrow beam red LED at the front for a safe firing light effect.
  • Hand crank that can spin up the three copper coils using different speeds and directions (Just like in the game).
  • Spinning parts will use inertia effects to keep spinning once hand crank power stops.
  • One-way bearing to disconnect the hand crank from the shaft.
  • Microcontroller with speaker output, and spinning RPM monitoring.
  • On-board battery with external charger connection.
  • Side panels are easy to remove to access electronics.
  • Working trigger.
  • Real camera lenses.
  • Real glass chamber.

As this is supposed to be 'functional', may I ask which state you are in to determine if I need protective lenses...

Sorry, newbie humor.

I do have protective lenses (And a few higher power lasers on the way).
But the plan is to ensure the laser energy stays between the lenses, and behind the glass (perhaps frosting the glass).

Very cool! I have this on my list too. I was planning to do an extra barrel tube when I built the F4 laser rifle (4 years ago...), but life got in the way so I haven't started on either! I got materials for the laser rifle, but nothing built beyond planning.

Not sure how small the smoke generators have gotten, but if could be fun to include one in the central green compartment. It would sell the sketchy nature of the Fallout hand crank laser musket. :)

Ultrasonic Atomization Discs are tiny.

I have used the Ultrasonic atomizers, except they typically require the liquid to be right on the piezo disk, not sure how it would work with a moving weapon. I have looked into e-cig vaporizers, but I can't find anything that isn't a total hack. There are mini smoke generators for model trains, but they take a lot of power, time to heat up and also require the liquid to be level. Also, the vapors would collect on the inside of the glass anyways.

What I need is some sort of permanent smoke effect, anyone know a gas that is permanently smokey?

Shout out to my local Ace Hardware who had more than half of the bits I need for the Laser Musket. I mean the thing looks like it was built at a hardware store anyways.

I have most of the 3D printed parts done, and the shaft/bearing mechanism seems like it will work.
The 100mW laser I got it focusable, and can project quite a large dot at a short distance. This also makes it much safer as the power is spread over a large area. It lights up the front lenses nicely. It also make a very good laser for the glitter cloud-chamber effect, but that video is on my Discord channel.

Here are some shorts showing the various effects I am going for. Note the laser beam is purposefully wide. It is a focusable laser, and my primary goal is to light up the lenses as bright as possible, while also not making the laser dangerous to anyone's eyes. (By spreading the beam)

I have completed the software design, with some tweaking needed for a few of the sound effects that will play.
All the metal from SendCutSend is on order, once that arrives I can do a full mock-up build.
