Hi Folks.

Please, someone would know to tell me what kits these parts came from?

Thanks.

I'm working on it... I've almost got it... (minus the upper-left part)

OK... it must be late because I was looking for a part that wasn't highlighted... does that mean you know what the UNHIGHLIGHTED parts (especially the detail to the right) is? If not, I can tell you THAT. But if you already know...

Yep. The detail to the right is from Bandai 1/48 T.... :D
Please, could you PM me about the parts you know?

Thanks.

In an online discussion dated Aug 13, 2006, there was some talk about Bandai re-releasing their old 1/48 armor line due to the resurgence of this scale by Tamiya and others. Hopefully they'll release the (at least) three you need for the Y Wing. This is supposed to happen sometime in the fall... original tooling and everything (they said Fuman was just an "off-islands marketing front").

I do not know what any of those parts you highlighted are. Sorry.

The Gag reflex with mentioning kits is most amusing :lol

I've not ID'd any of the parts in that pic yet.
...but, did anyone release a 1/48 Wirblewind?
This is a 1/48 resin conversion kit. Do those 2 parts lower left
Look kinda right?

Here is a warning to everyone:

Do NOT use the AMT Ertl Episode III Jedi Starfighter's R2 for your studio scale X or Y wing... it is too small. The detail is not very crisp either, and the parting line is annoyingly front-to-back rather than side-to-side. I have an X Wing R2 Strip casting that I got from Frank Cerney, and the diameter of the R2 slot for that is about 3/4" (as was said). Maybe I'll post a comparison pic, but the JSF R2 is way too small.

The AMT one too small, hmm not seen one so cant ID really, the Revell one seems to fit fine and the seam goes side to side. Hope that helps a little.

SO I was browsing through my old notes on Y Wing and general ILM stuff and this is what I found (I have omitted kits that we already know):

I am not sure who wrote most of this stuff, so from now on I am going to take down names also. In a random note, I found that the "Hummel jacks were used along the neck sides." This must be referring to inside, but I haven't seen them there.

Someone also wrote this:

"Large Scale Bandai Kits on ILM Shelf:
m60 a1
king tiger
panther
1/24 scale
the stug
...
bmw r 75"

This doesn't mean that all or any of them were used on the Y specifically, just that they COULD have been.

"I just found the correct part in the Bandai 1/48 Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. H. It's part #14." I don't know what part this is referring to, but it is supposed to be a Y Wing part.

On a list I compiled a while ago, I found:
"Bandai 1/48 Hetzer" referring to the Y Wing.

I found the following list in my miscellaneous notes too:

"Kits used by ILM modelmakers Star wars

1/600 Airfix Battleship Scharnhorst
1/72 Airfix Panther
1/72 Airfix sdkfz armoured car 234
? Airfix Apollo -saturn V snap kit
1/25 AMT "moven on" Kenworth cab
1/25 AMT 52 ford pickup
1/24 AMT Buick Regal
1/25 AMT Camaro late 60's early 70's
1/25 AMT Chevy van 70's
1/25 AMT Falcon ford
1/25 AMT ford van 70's
1/25 AMT Fruehauf tanker
1/24 AMT Gremlin
1/24 AMT Hide out truck Kenworth Airodyne
1/24 AMT Pertbuilt cab (white w/ red trim)
??? AMT Space 1999 eagle
1/650 AMT Star trek enterprise
1/24 AMT Titan Semi truck cab
1/24 AMT tria axle gravel trailer
1/24 AMT White Frieght liner semi truck cab
1/24 AMT/ERTL International Payhauler 350
1/24 Bandai US Medium Tank M 60
1/48 Bandai / Fuman Panther G
1/8 Entex John Player Special Lotus F1 72d
1/4 Entex wankel rotary engine
1/72 Esci German Elephant tank(king tig{P}
1/700 Hasegawa Essex Aircraft carrier
1/72 Hasegawa Leopold Railway gun
1/24 Hasegawa Lola T90-50 F1Kignus-tonen"

Some of this is wrong, though. For example, the Leopold was not used for Episode IV. Perhaps this list includes stuff from ESB and ROTJ too.

I also found this random list:

"AMT 1/24 Gremlin
AMT (giant) Dump Truck
Esci/Bandai US M60 Tank (1/48? 1/24? 1/15?)
Minicraft/Hasegawa Super Saber F-100A Large
Tamiya 1/35 Vosper
Tamiya 1/12 Ferrari F1 312/14
Tamiya 1/12 Tyrrell ELF Ford
Tamiya 1/25 Chieftain
Revell Missouri large
Revell/Testors 1/24 Volvo Semi Cab"

One interesting note is that the Bandai 1:24 M60 comes up on all three lists....

I cannot confirm or deny any of these kits except the ones that are already ID'd from this thread and in other SS threads. If anyone has any of these kits and if they feel like sharing, then please do.

the tamiya big chieftan has several donar parts for the 32" falcon not sure if it was on the Y or not though
[/b]

I know that there are some canisters on the Y that are very similar to the one you find in the Centurion, but not exact. The scale is the same though. Since both are British tanks, perhaps we found another Y kit... I wonder if we can get any kit scans of that one...

Still though, are there any other 1:25 Tamiya British Tanks?

yes ther is
toystar from korea not sure of the relsae date but the one I have has a copyright stated 1979 the detail is not as crsip as tamiya but still damn good.
I think I ID a part I was looking for on the belly all the way aft there is a rectangularlatticed type box with in that box there are two cylendrical shapes that look to me to be the main barrel halfs of the italeri howitzer same kit that lent the part to the top section
here is a pic

:confused :confused :confused :confused this is a hard one to id

I am posting this altered plan I found in one of my old books I basically traced it then erased the original. I am doing this for those who are scratch building. I have made a few blunders with the basic shape of the hull so I am posting to help prevent this for others I did not know about the blocks protruding from the hull on the sides going aft so now its strip off all parts again and alter the body. I think this is why it takes soooo darned long to get something we all like perfection is a lousy curse

if you want the full size version email me please no PMS

I was looking at parts for my 1:48 Y Wing and I got a hold of the Hasegawa 1:72 M4 (A3E8) Sherman hull - the one that goes on the SS X Wing butt - and I said, "those grill pieces look like the grill that goes on the bottom of the Y Wing neck right by the head. Maybe that will work for my 1:48 Y Wing." Then I looked at some pictures of that grill on the Studio Y Wing and it looks like the size is about the same. In fact, it looks very much like the same piece, only 1:35 scale instead of 1:72. There is supposedly a 1:35 M4A3 Sherman part on the X Wing, so maybe that grill is from the same kit.

This might seem too speculative to some - but if you have the Hasegawa Sherman, take a look and compare it to the Kuhn Global pics. What do you guys think?

Hey Charlie, what is that a picture of? As far as the cylindrical tubes that go aft of the Harrier engine piece, they are from the Hummel. They are both the same half, so you either need two kits or make castings. I haven't checked on the Sherman yet, but I am thinking I might be wrong. It could be from a race car.

I had asked about the cylenders some time back and was told they were not from the hummel?
besides where do the halfs of the howitzer barrels go? as far as that kit part I don't know the kit maker or kit name I found several pics of it on an artillery website. the old likelike/lindberg/renwall/revell atomic cannon has some great looking parts

In addition to the T Rod (whether you use plastruct or brass), there is plastruct channel used all over the ship (HO brick pattern, too). Does anyone know what size this plastruct channel is?
