One of the kits I havn't got up the $ for yet. :cry
I've still got about 30% left to ID. That piece among them.
It Looks close but I don't think thats it.
Thanx to Boba Flint we've got some great pix. I think it's
post #1071 3rd link down. you'll notice what appears to
be 2 bolt heads or whatever, on the top of the piece.
Very frustrating.

there are two bolt heads on the edge that is why I tought of this nothing personal I will have to up thr res to show that it seems the closest I have come since starting this in 3 years

I just looked I have those images thanks and thanks to to person who posted however the last three go directly to the imagehut main page some glitch there I think

What is that thing? It doesn't look like a Y Wing body to me.

How is everyone doing these days? You know, you can use shots from the Master Replicas Y Wing to do research. Look through the pages at http://www.therpf.com/index.php?showtopic=112551&st=0 to find some very good pictures. After looking at them myself, I found that I had several parts that I didn't even know about... I had to go through my spares boxes just to find them, and in the process I found more. I may post some pictures soon to provide examples...

OK, here are the pics I was talking about...

First up, we are all acquainted with this end:

YParts01.jpg

But have we paid close enough attention to the other end?

YParts02.jpg

Here are some more parts from this same kit:

YParts03.jpg

I already knew that the following parts were used on the Y:

YParts04.jpg

But I didn't know they were repeated all over the ship and used in various ways in various places...

You should pay very close attention to these conspicuous parts:

YParts05.jpg

YParts06.jpg

I always wanted this part, and now I have more than enough:

YParts07.jpg

These parts are extremely sneaky - look closely at MR Y Wing pics (as well as Boba Flint's Y Wing pics)...

YParts08.jpg

Miscellaneous parts:

YParts09.jpg

Could these be THRUST VECTOR parts?

YParts11.jpg

The following part comes from a certain kit that I have, but I now think that it is not the correct part for the job. I am now leaning towards the Tamiya 1/700 Waterline Series Prince of Whales for the correct part that is very similar to this. If anyone has any info regarding this, then please let me know.

YParts10.jpg

All of these parts except the ones in the fourth pic, a couple in the ninth pic, and the last one can be found at the Studio Scale Kit Scans page:

http://www.studioscale.com/kitscans.htm

I am trying to make blueprints by deducing the measurements based on measurements of parts that I already own:

http://www.geocities.com/r_e_flint/Screenshot.jpg

The drawing on the left is adapted from the Star Wars Chronicles overhead shot, and the side view on the right is what I have been working on from measured parts. Already the drawing made from the Chronicles pic has to be changed...

Well it appears that Geocities is a crappy website host... The pictures are unavailable now. I have to go to work so I don't have time to fix it. If anyone sees these posts before I get back, know that I will fix it in due time...

Sorry guys.

Ahh.. yes. "No love Monday" at Geocities has come around again. Can't wait for casual friday. LoL

I am talking about the basic shape of the hull with no kit parts.
that thing is an old tamiya kit apollo1
those pics of the kit parts are great that is what we need more of

Thank you Flintlock.
I have gone through those scans more than a dozen times and I must have gone
all glassy eyed or something. I can scratch off 3 new kits and several bits That I
actually have already..
Any time you feel like droping clues :love

The pieces from #4 still elude me and one piece from #9 but I feel good :p

No problem. Most, if not all, of those kits have been mentioned in this thread already, and the pieces in #4 were mentioned specifically by Boba Flint. The only problem is that there are no scans of that kit up at the studio scale page. If you are referring to the gray piece in pic #9, that is from an ESCI 1/72 King Tiger, I think. I picked one up in Japan for my 1/48 Y and then 2 more when I got back to the states (Italeri re-releases). I am not sure if that is the exact piece, but it is very close to the piece that is used. Either the piece that is used on the ILM model is from a 1/76 Jagdpanther (which I THOUGHT I had but can find no traces of in my boxes or instructions) or it is from a different 1/72 or 1/76 kit altogether which might have some other parts.

There is a piece from a 1/350 ship on the bottom of the Y wing, but I am not sure what kit it is from. Looks like it could be a Yamato, but I can't be certain. Anyone out there have any clues or leads?

I made significant progress on my blueprints, and when I am done I am going to shrink them by half and then start working on my 1/48 Y. I only need to buy 4 kits before I can start that. Then I am going to work on the studio scale Y - if I get the time, of course.

Take care fellas.

P.S.

Does anyone have a Revell Germany or AMT Ertl 1/24 Episode III Jedi Starfighter? I was wondering what the R2 units in those kits are like, since if the scale is correct then they would be perfect for studio scale X and Y Wings. The trouble is that I don't know what size they are or if they are any good detail wise. I don't want to spend $50 to get both kits, so I thought I would ask if anyone already happened to have one or the other. Let me know if you do. Thanks.

I saw some pics posted of the SS X-Wing that used the Jedi R2 looked like a prefect fit, I think it was over at Starship Modeler.

I pick up the Star Wars chess set a while back and just so happens that the pieces are 1/24 scale. I am planning on use the R2 unit in both my SS X-Wing and Y-Wing builds, he is 3/4" in dia and he is complete not just the top half. Every now and then I have found the chess set on sale at Wal-marts for $12, some stores still have it on the shelves.

Id have to say the JSF R2 units are about perfect for use in the Y wing, there detail is adequate enough anyways.

Hi there,

I'm not sure if I would be breaking a confidence agreed within the MR Y-wing team in just telling you exactly what these are as I didn't actually ID them. Dan Loes and Dan Satterthwaite get credit for that as far as I can recall. However, I would like to help a fellow builder, especially one who I have seen posting about the Y-wing for a long while now. The parts are actually skylights from an old passenger cruise liner...I'll say no more than that...hope it helps a bit :)

Sorry if I sound a bit cryptic, but I don't want to break the etiquette around such matters, and especially not with folk such as Mr Loes and Mr Satterthwaite.

Nick
