Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

I'm planning a trip to wested leather in Kent in the next few days to buy a wolverine jacket, I really want one but only if it fits properly hence going there in person. There web site looks pretty good and as they make leather products for movies not just replicating them from movies I thought they might be pretty good. Has anyone purchaced any jackets from them?

I have their X-0 Origins Jacket.....I like it! I was familiar enough with what Wested do for sizing that I ordered online and spoke a lot with Gemma about what I was after before they made it for me....The final jacket is a good one and fit perfectly for me......

Colours are great, and the jacket design works fine for me too....I managed to pick up some leather myself when it arrived and added the leather to the zipper handles myself...

Good stuff...Going in person to the farm is a good idea, since if you're not familiar with the Wested sizing you can run into problems sometimes, but their X-0 is good....

Regards.

(They made the original Indy jacket for Raiders....And their current Hero Raiders jacket is brilliant too....)

Got my XO jacket today, I'm really pleased with it. It would have been an amazing day out the wife and I taking a drive down to kent together, except some ****** keyed my car while we weren't watching (2 panels). The scratched car kinda put a dampner on the day but we still went to the pub to meet loads of friends so I could show off the new jacket.

For anyone who doesn't know, Wested Leather made Indy's jacket for Raiders of the lost Ark.

Hey fifthchamber,

Glad to see you enjoy your jacket. I myself am in the midst of ordering from Wested. However, I can't go to them as I don't live in the UK. How was your experience dealing with Gemma? And could you describe the differences in sizing? Would be interested to know in detail.

Regards,
Aeric

Hi capkaos, dealing with Gemma was great, she clearly enjoys her job. I spoke to her on the phone to discuss my visit and the jacket I wanted and my sizing. When I turned up at the shop she recognised my voice and showed me to the jackets I was interested in. I'm only 5'8 but have a 40inch chest and quite large shoulders so I was worried that a medium would be to small but a large would to to long in the sleeve. This wasn't the case, the medium fits me perfectly. I got lots of compliments about my jacket while I was in the pub last night, quite a few women stroked the jacket saying they liked the feel of leather:rolleyes. They currently have in stocks pretty much every size of the XO, X1 only a few of the X2 and no X3.

Hey batfan,

Thanks for the info! I'm nearly sold on the Wested. How is the distressed cowhide they're using? And what are your shoulder and arm measurements? I ask because I'm about 5'5" with pretty broad shoulders, but I usually need shorter sleeves.

Regards,
Aeric

The small size was only 1 inch narrower in the shoulders than the medium. It fitted me but there was more room in the medium for me and i wanted to be able to wear several layers underneath without it being to tight. The leather is really nice, not as distressed as the jacket in the movie but it's got a nice mottled pattern to the main brown, the stripes and other lighter brown detailing isn't quite as nice a cut of leather but I'm hoping it'll fade and discolour in time. My plan is to wear my jacket all the time as long as weather permits to create a warn look naturally. The collar stands up a little to stiffly, I'm hoping it'll sag with age and wear.

To add to what was already said by Batman....

Gemma is a good person to deal with, and definitely loves the job...I'm not such an expert on the sizing, since I order true to my own size, and that works well with Wested...So if in doubt, I'd suggest you re-tape your own sizing and let them know that...I'm 5'8 but have a 46 inch chest...On the Wested I asked for, I went for a 44, which was on the border of what I can wear, but it worked ok for me...With Wolverine's X0, I judged the size to be a touch smaller than the X1....So 44 seemed about right for me with a larger chest...

Wested have picked up a lot recently...Their Wolverine X0 is a good one to buy, and mine doesn't have the "popping" issue mentioned by some others at all..So I guess they fixed it fine....

Their Raiders Hero jacket is also something special....Taken from a Tony Nowak design (He made the jackets for the 4th film and copied an original Raiders let him by the crew), and with Shrunken Lamb skin I would say that's about as good as it'll get for the money..I haven't seen much else better at that price....

Very good guys to deal with....Be patient with them, and you'll be fine...

I had a Wested XO and I can say that it was a horrible jacket. The thing just fell apart and busted at the seams within a few months. Haven't had a single prob with my Vanson XO

Comparing a Wested to a Vanson isn't fair.....

Wested are great jackets for the price they sell at....And since you bought yours, they must have improved the design several notches...

I have both a Vanson, and a Wested......I'd never compare them...Not the same at all...The Vanson is the best jacket I own...The Wested is a very good jacket too, sized down by the cost coming down too.....None of the stitches have broken, none of the pockets have snapped, and none of the zippers have gone wrong....It does the job...

There's no need to compare it to the Vanson here I reckon...The original question wasn't about that... ;-)

Thanks for the info folks! Another quick question about the measurements. My shoulder measurement is 18.5 inches shoulder bone to shoulder bone. What size would best accomodate my shoulders?

Having had a look at the Leather Next one, I'd say spend your cash elsewhere....For 200 pounds, that's not close enough to satisfy those of us who want the "right" jacket....It's close, but not close enough......

Wested do a better looker for about the same price.....And there are a couple of other choices outside of Leather Next....Heron for one..I'd be happier sending my cash to either of those two companies....

Just my personal opinion....Close, but not close enough..

so here is my heron i got this just after origins came out when my chest was 2 inches smaller and it still fits to bay for my taste i have always been annoyed because i asked heron what size was appropriate for my size best and they said medium im guessing because of my height being 5'11 but only 36 chest however i still wear it frequently and after just relising wested are in the UK i may have to visit soon (although waiting to see if we get a new jacket in june)

can it be altered or do you guys think its decent it is a very thin leather which i love as i can wear it all year :)

Of course your jacket can be altered by a seamstress or a saddler but I think your jacket looks good, it doesn't hang off you or look baggy. I too am curious as to whether or not there will be another jacket for the new movie.

Heya Spiderman!

I think the pattern Heron was using back then was off just slightly...The newer design is far better, but size wise, that seems to fit just about right...Doesn't look wrong on you for sure? Although yes, it's all about personal feel with jackets.....

Wested are solid in my opinion. While there have been a few complaints about various things with them, they've never shown that side to me, and I've always gotten jackets I love to wear from them....The X0 I have is more than decent, and the Indiana Jones Hero is the best jacket I have for Indy....They'll sort you out for a great jacket easily.

Regards! (And thanks again for the cuffs!)
