Thanks Weta, the book is the coolest.

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

this may be giving up the goat here...but good ideas are worth sharing...while the rifles are cool and all...what about a bison design with a small backpack, or belt power pack? struck me that these things might need more power....strapping a miniature fusion reactor to your back could be just the ticket

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Thanks Weta, the book is the coolest.

I'm still eagerly anticipating my book. I guess it's a long old way from New Zealand to England for the little wings on the Postal Pigeons, I hope the little chap is OK!

I'm like Bart Simpson waiting for his spy camera, loitering by the door waiting for the postie!

Mine came through an in-country distributer. I truly didn't expect it so soon. BUT, when the man in brown knocked, it was the first thing that came to mind.

With the high quality cardstock like pages, it's going to be tough not cutting out pages and framing them...

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Wonderful...

I see 99% of my design ideas already being discussed, rendered in 3D, and being pre-built.

No idea how I'm going to be competitive in this.

Pre-congrats to the winner.

Think different Paradox !

Cheers

Well...I have a name..."The Feisty Zebu!"

I know I want some red...and I want to do something other than a rifle...that's all I got so far ;)

A question though...will the unpainted Bisons have the dial details? Stickers... decals?

Hi Sporak

No, the Unpainted Bisons will not have the dial details or decals. They are completely nude !

Cheers

I love Grordbort's stuff!
Got an F.M.O.M. and the Bison in my collection for quite some time now.

On a side note, I created this raygun a couple of years ago after being inspired by Weta's Grordbort line -

And DARTH SABER's awesome piece, in turn, inspired me to create mine:

Thanks Tim!

I was having a bit of a bad day when I wrote my last post.

I have a few ideas in my head, and instead of looking at this thread as possible defeat, I'm looking at it as inspiration. I guess the spirit slipped from me momentarily.

You're 100% right... "think different"... thanks for the reminder! :)

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

What kind of paint did you use on that beauty?

Did a little digging and pulled this from an old thread...

For color, I based it all out with Krylon "Crafter's Metallic" in Charcoal. Then with an airbrush I went in with Krylon Dull Aluminum (decanted from the rattle can), avoiding any recesses, nooks, crannies, or crevices. I wasn't completely happy with that, so I dirtied it down with airbrushed Tamiya black, and then hit that with a spritzer bottle filled with isopropyl alcohol. Then in some areas I went in with a thin mixture of Tamiya brown and spritzed that with alcohol. The "fuel cell" was done with Tamiya Titanium Gold, dirtied down with mostly brown and a bit of black (and once again, the spritzer bottle of alcohol).

A final step was to add the "gunk" in all the crevices with a thin wash of burnt umber and black oil paint thinned with turpenoid (applied with a fine brush).

The burnt metal/heat discoloration was done with airbrushed drawing inks - blue, purple, and brown - with a bit of Testor's Model Master "Exhaust" Buffing Metalizer.

Same with the tubes - they were tinted with blue and purple ink mixed with a bit of Future floorwax. Then at the bases of both the inner and outer tubes I hit them with a bit of the Testor's Exhaust.

The coils on the underside are aluminum armature wire, so I just dipped them in Aluminum Black and then gave them a slight buffing with steel wool.

Are these Righteous Bison solid cast resin or are they able to be taken apart?

I think it always helps to pretend you are 10 years old again. When you are 10, there are no obstacles or problems, just dreams.

Good News !

The Steam Freighter shipping the Unpainted Righteous Bisons to our US warehouse has evaded the clutches of the villianous Moon Men and made good progress.

In the next few days we will be sending out e-mails to those of you in the US who pre-ordered the Bison, to advise that we will be processing payment on your order next week.

And delivering your orders shortly after that !

Cheers

I am pleased to advise that Dave Tremont, our Senior Model Maker at Weta Workshop, will be at the Weta booth at Comic Con this year. Please come and say hello to Dave, he has been "making stuff" all of his life. Learn more about Dave here ...Meet the Crew: Dave Tremont

Feel free to bounce around ideas with him about your own projects. Dave built most of our Dr Grordbort's rayguns from the designs created by Greg Broadmore.
