Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS!

Just pre-ordered mine. Been too long since I've built a prop, might as well jump back in with both feet.

I'm wondering .. 25$ shipped to Canada .. how big is the box for this thing?! Seems like a lot considering shipping is free to US. We're so doomed here in the northern hemisphere .. urgg!

Pre-ordered! I have no prop making experience but i have a lot of warhammer making experience so i hope it will come in handy ;).

I have been admiring Outlander's collection of Gordbort's guns for awhile. This seemed to be a super fun project to hop into, so ordered the gun today. Already starting to assemble and thing of the parts and pieces needed to upgrade this pistol. :cool

Can't speak for Weta but from personal experience, sometimes shipping from the US to Canada is more expensive than shipping to the UK and sometimes it takes longer. I have never understood that, but have had it happen multiple times.

All right, I'll break the ice and be the first to share my work in progress. What do you guys think?

That's a good start, but I suspect it will change color before August.:lol

I've signed up with WETA, gone to the preorder page, and hit the button for preorder.
This brings me to the shopping cart with the "check out now" button, and that's as far as it goes!
Am I missing something? or have I signed up for 5 of them?

:love This is going to be soooo much fun.

Wee question though, How do Weta/Dr. Gordborts know if your member?

:ninja

I ordered 2 one for me and one for a friend :)
We're both members and will both be entering ;)

Sounds fun ...

Here's an interesting thought - how much of the original gun, has to be in the finished product?

I ask, because this could easily become a money pi$$ing contest. People getting parts machined or getting specialized tools, while other members may have just about enough money to afford the base product.

I know, creativity doesn't cost a thing, but there's a difference between building your dream car, out of plywood, in the garage and sending your plans to a fabricator and having them build a working vehicle.

That's why the $1 contests are so great - it puts everyone on a level playing field. Are there going to be any limitations like that?

Just a thought.

Don't we have enough dollar store contests? I hope these rules are set in stone. I already have a design, spent all weekend building and have already spent some money on parts. I don't enter dollar store contest because i hate that limitation. I am not rich, i make under $30k a year, live in a singlewide trailer and drive a 20 year old beater. If i can do it anyone can. Go to the dump and recycle. You would be amazed what you can build with "junk". A CNC is not needed to make pretty metal parts. All it takes is a little imagination and ingenuity, and i have found some cussing and parts throwing sometime works. :lol

I don't litterally mean dollar store restrictions, just some kind of parameters in which to work.

I know there are plenty of people who can make amazing things out of relative junk. But what if you spend weeks fabricating something out of nothing and somebody comes a long with machined parts and beats you, even though you had a better design?

Lamborghini isn't a necessarily better car than a BMW (reliability wise), but because the entire thing is hand assembled and cost 25 times more, people assume that it's better. But between a car that doesn't require major service until the 100k mile mark, versus a car that needs to be torn down and rebuilt every 15k miles, I'll take the BMW any day.
