Well, it looks like they made an updated version of Luke's ROTJ saber for TFA...

I will say that other than the emitter, I like the proportions better than the hero ROTJ. It's no V2, but it's got an appealing silhouette.

It looks like the red and green triangle leds are considerably bigger on this version. Also, from what I understand, Luke was initially supposed to have a much larger role in the film but they ended up reducing his presence to focus more on the new characters (fairly late in the game, I think). It totally makes sense that they would have made a new lightsaber prop for Luke even though it didn't end up being used in this film.

I was hoping for the V2, since its on screen more, but this one still looks good to me. Minor changes are always expected from one movie to another.

I actually like it. While I was hoping for the V2, I figured that with only the Hero or the Obi Shared stunt in the archives that they would use either if those as a reference for his updated saber.

First thing I would do is drill a hole right into the center of that emitter prong. I think they left it solid because the Graflex prong is solid. But they also have access to the archives so who knows what they found.

Same here. :thumbsup

Looks like a tree stump sticking out of it.

Dan, looks great, of course I'm in! Any chance of making some parts out of copper? I know that's really pushing things,

If, a few years down the road, they do and episode viii version of this saber, and it looks like they use real copper, and I can get some great references, then I would try to replicate the prop as accurately as possible. But that would be a few years off.

As for this saber, without better references, if I did a run, it would be small, quick, and I'd try to make it cheap as chips, (like I'd shoot for $100 for a kit), so that would mean no copper and machined in as few pieces as possible.

For 100 bucks I'd be in emitter be darned.

I understand completely and like your way of thinking. I have a lathe, just need to learn to use it. If you could make these for anywhere near $100 that would be amazing! I thought the V2 for $165 was a steal!

I don't know what shop you use but they do great work for an extremely reasonable price.

I like the showerhead emitter, at least it's something new. Someone putting their own mark on it, like TFA's hybrid ANH/ESB Skywalker. Eye of the beholder, I guess.

Maybe the holes have some practical purpose we're not privy to. Look at the emitter on this Prequels Kenobi, we never saw it on screen (as far as we know), but here it is in the flesh with little holes in it. Just throwing it out there.

Or maybe it's a salt shaker.

Hahaha-- yeah, every time I scroll by this pic I feel like I need to tell my waiter "when" to stop grinding pepper on my food.

So did no one get the Target Bluray?! There has to be more frames of this.

Man, now the thing is starting to actually grow on me... I feel like the control box is wider and the ring of holes taller/thicker on the actual prop perhaps?

I go back and forth about the ring of holes. It looks different in different CAD programs.

I think you're probably right about the control box.

I'm waiting on a quote from my shop to see if a small run of these two parts is viable. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
