Vertical FX Saber Display for under $6

I recently picked up one of those nifty FX sabers... The display stand that came with it is nice, but it's pretty bulky and clunky when mounted to the wall- plus there are the blade droop issues that go along with a horizontal display.

So I started looking around for vertical wall displays; I had a perfect spot of wall picked out to the right of my apartment's desk cubby to mirror the Sting I have on the left. In any case, I found a couple different display products, the least expensive of which cost $20. Now don't get me wrong, they're nice products, but I wasn't looking to spend that much on a stand. So, I did what any prop builder would do, and made my own :)

Materials you will need:
1 "Home Trends" Robe hook- these come in chrome or brushed steel finish- $3.64 at WalMart
1 "mainstays home" Adhesive Diamond Hook - $1.47 at WalMart
4 or 5 little foam self-adhesive feet/bumpers (chances are you have some extras floating around your workbench)
1 FX saber (duh)

(I had bought two hooks; turns out only one is needed)

You can also a basic "storage hook" if you want to get even cheaper (and you're sure there's a wall stud where you want to hang the saber). They're about $1.50 for two at Walmart/Target

Just follow the robe hook's instructions to mount it to the wall wherever you want it... You'll want to stick the diamond hook sideways about two feet above the robe hook, making sure to align it so that when the blade is notched inside the hook the saber is vertical.

Put a few foam feet on the robe hook to protect the finish of the FX saber endcap:

Use a couple foam feet to give the diamond hook a bit of "grip" on the saber blade. This combined with the shape of the robe hook will hold the saber pretty securely:

And finally, the finished result!

I hope this will be of help to others- let me know what you think! Are there other cheap vertical display solutions you guys have come up with?

Is it easy to remove it from the stand?

Yep, just unhook the blade from the diamond hook by moving it an inch or two to the side and you can pick up the saber. The hook is not completely closed, so you don't have to thread it through anything.

Great Idea.

I used a pool cue rack.

Thanks Wackychimp.

I went with a really simple idea to display my Vader FX - I used the d-ring on the saber hooked to a nail on the wall (put a little electricians tape on the nail to stop scuffing). It works with the blade pointing up or down:

I don't think any FX sabers other than the Vader would display this way.

Cool, I like the pool cue rack too.

ob1al, are you having any problems with deformation of the plastic where the d-ring attaches to the saber?  I thought about hanging mine like you did, but it seemed like the plastic was pretty thin there...

Here's another idea from a couple months ago that I'd missed: http://www.rpf.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=98707
