Type I "Cricket" Phaser Build

Well, if it looks like the one in the second picture in my OP then it's the Playmates phaser. If it looks different then it might be the Galoob one. Toys usually have their manufacturing info molded into the shell somewhere. Probably on the battery cover.

As promissed, here are pics of my Playmates, Stapleton and the keychain Cricket phasers. Obviously, the Playmates is the largest, then the Stapleton, and then the smallest, an unfinished modified keychain phaser. You can see that there is quite a bit of difference in the sizes of all three. The keychain is much smaller than the actual sized prop.

The Stapleton cricket shown actually houses the electronics from the Playmates phaser!! The keychain has had the emitter windows cut out, the emitter reshaped, and a 10mm red LED installed in the emitter. I may finish it someday.

This is the Galoob version and it is smaller than the Playmates one but anatomically very incorrect.

The Galoob version is sized in between the Stapleton and the Playmates. But like PeterLC said it's way off in shape and details. I also heard the sounds are nothing like the actual soundeffects. They keychain actualy sounds decent, just not very loud.

I always loved the cricket phaser. There's a kit for it on ebay right now.

And the Stapleton thread about the cricket.
It was really helpful to me as a beginner to build the phaser.
It was the first one I have ever done.
That's the great thing about these community sites everybody is really helpful
even to newbies!

I really don't know what Playmates was thinking when they did their Cricket phaser. Better to fit in small hands and not swallowable? It's also hard to believe the same electronics in that Playmates Cricket will also fit the Stapleton kit.

actually the Galloob is pretty close in shape just bigger than it should be. But both have some issues. but at least the galloob is closer in look than the playmates. oooh man is that one sooo ugly.
