This image was posted on the Tardis builders forum, and it shows all the parts that went into the sonic that the member built. It may or may not help.

Does the onscreen prop spring open? I was under the impression that it was not. I recall reading that Smith improvised the flick and that the intended design was to be pulled open.

I can't see the picture here at work, but if its from who I think it is, he's already commented in this thread! :love

It may have been this picture.....

A parts study I did based on photos of Rubbertoe's workshop showing the prop in various stages of assembly .

Question to the masses....

What would be the best option for filling in the claws to make them solid? I was thinking the two part putty that you kneed together, but not quite sure.

I would use solder. It would be a little tricky, but I think if you could heat the claws up enough it would work and look the best

Hi,
not sure how well it would work, but since you are not replacing the claws, making new ones, it might be worth a little experimentation. Fill the claw with 2 part putty such as milliput fine (the white one) Once this is hardened sand to the profile then use some common or garden kitchen foil non-shiny side outwards, epoxied to the filler to give the impression of solid aluminium. This might take a few goes to get right, but you've got 4 claws, right? :)

A little more work done this weekend. Trying to connect the claws. This is the 4th design I came up with. Machined with a dremel and a micro hand drill. Three hours and five blisters later, I NEVER want to make another set of these again!

I finally came up with a design of 4 'L' brackets with 0-80 screws washers and nuts. I know they are not silver, all they had were brass...but I kind of like it!

On to the center shaft now...

Assuming that the sonic will flick open, how do you think the toy shaft will hold up? The stress on it could be a bit much.
