Tron Legacy Deluxe Identity Disc mods?

Is there anywhere I could find the measurements of the inner circle on a Deluxe ID Disk? I want to make a holder that will fit one.

sorry if it's all over the site here I'm new >.>
About 4.25 inches measuring off of my disc.

Anyone know if an N size battery holder will fit inside the disc to power the LEDs? I'm going the SMD strip route and I'd rather stick one A23 in there than trying to string together a bunch of coin batteries. Thanks.

Thanks. The only number I can find on them is 0603 so I'm not sure how bright they are, but it's a 60cm strip with 60 LEDs and I know I'll be trimming some off to fit. Hopefully it'll last longer than an hour since I only plan on having the center ring lit when it's on my back; and even if I do wind up posing with it and lighting the outer one it'll be on a completely different circuit so I'm hoping that will extend battery life as well.

I have a budget of zero dollars right now but I was able to work out a halfway decent mod for one of these.
Personally, I'm more interested in the disc in its non-lethal mode. Meaning I don't care TOO much about the cycling energy ring of death around the outside (at least not right now) and I care more about the illuminated inner C ring.
So, I opened the disc and dremeled out the black plastic behind the ring. I taped some aluminum foil inside the disc, then repositioned all of the led's under the C-ring and over the foil and secured them with a little bit of electrical tape. The aluminum foil behind the led's makes them look brighter and since I didn't really alter the guts, the lights "initialize" in the same sequence as in the film. I also just completely removed the outer ring and used electrical tape around the outside to seal it up.
Unfortunately, after it initializes it doesn't stay lit. Also the electrical tape kind of looks crappy, but if I were to take the time to trim it and everything I'm sure it would be barely noticeable, if at all.
It's not a great mod, but it's not really meant to be. Just about everything out there right now appears inaccurate in one way or another so I'm not too concerned. It cycles on like the movie and shines pretty bright while doing so, so it's alright with me.
Man I really wish there was a way to change those terrible sound effects. The quality is bad and they're not even the ones used in the final film. A lot of stuff is based on the original comic con trailer and not so much on the film. The blade activation sequence, seen in the toy and game. The blade colors, the way the baton is used (in the trailer and comic it's tossed in front of you and the lightcycle forms around it), the helmets with light up faces, many of the sound effects and probably more. I hope (though doubt) they'll do a series 3 disc with the proper sounds and accurate activation effects.

LED Program constant without sound

I just bridge the motionsensor and removed the wires from the speaker
Now when i turn the disc on "I" it will do the program it does after moving, i mean the circle LED program on the outside ring, after a minute, the disk turns off, than you have to push the reactivate button and then it starts to bring all the random program in a row and again and again and again.

That is the easiest way to do it i think

Hey, FreakT, which part was the motion sensor? Was it the separate capacitor like component labeled SW3?

Hi Light Runner, my english is a bit rusty and its hard for me to explain in english but here are the pictrues, realy easy.

I briged the red and the black cable... thats all.

So, I have my Sam Flynn Identity Disc, and I've decided to rip out all the original wiring and leds and such. I don't care about the soundboard or any of the preset stuff.
I have an idea of how I want to set up the lighting, but I don't know how to do it. I was originally planning on using 12 blue leds to light up the outer ring, but thought that aqua would probably be better suited. I then came up with the idea of having both blue and aqua leds that would give an oscillating effect.

Basically, the idea is to have 12 blue and 12 aqua leds side by side. The lighting sequence would look like the attached gif (except faster). The black lines indicate which leds are on.

My only problem is that I have no idea how to wire something like this.
If anyone could give me some resources, how to's or would even be able to work with me for a few hours over aim or something that would be awesome.

I'd look up the use of micro controllers. If you have no electronics or programming background it can be confusing. However, there are probably free programs out there you could modify. There are some people doing disc mods with micro controllers and have blogs and what not. You could probably get more detailed with help talking to those people or programming/electronics forum after researching first.

I can't really start playing with the controllers until I have more time. You could always get the disk setup with lighting the way you want it. Then later rewire it after that is all done. It would require a lot of rewiring but at least you have a completed disc and get comfortable with your setup. If computers aren't your thing, I'd setup something simple for now if your itching for a disc. There will probably be more complete write ups down the road as people are still figuring out a good setup themselves.

Thank you! Originally I wasn't sure what that piece was for. I like your mod since it keeps the light patterns! And so easy.

Yeah, I looked into Microcontrollers, but they tend to be pretty expensive. I know I could do it with an Arduino, but those also cost quite a bit, and I have no idea how to program those either.
The kind of circuit I need to make is actually called an Astable Multivibrator. But for now, cost wise, I'm probably just going to wire up some Aqua leds until I get more experience and have the time to mess around with that kind of stuff.

Anyone have any recommendations on LEDs?
Like, do the blue LEDs work better than the aqua leds, or would I be fine if I bought Ultra-bright aquas?
And I'm planning on getting them from this place:
Aqua 15° 5mm LED - LED Supply.com
Anyone buy from them before or have their own recommendation?

Here's some shots of my disc mod. The colors don't photograph well and aren't very true to life, but you get the general idea. I haven't done any wire management yet so everything is kind of sticking out all over the place too.

Incandescent light, both rings lit. It's a Rinzler disc with clear Kevin Flynn rings.

IMG_2036.jpg

Lights off. The center ring looks yellow, but what was described as "light yellow" actually looks cheeto orange in real life.

IMG_2033.jpg

Each ring is hooked up to a separate switch so I can have only one lit or both.

The LEDs that were supposed to be yellow annoyed me that they weren't the right color, so I cast my own center ring and painted it with transparent glass paint. It's not as green as it looks in the picture, but the blue cast of the white LEDs definitely gives it a green tinge. Some sheer fabric in a warm color should help diffuse that. If not, I'll have to experiment with mixing paint to get the right color.

I was hoping to finish it this weekend, but now I have to wait for an additional string of white lights to get here. orz

If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy them? Your disc looks awesome! And were they hard to wire? I know pretty much nothing about wiring LEDs and such, but really want to learn.

I bought them from a Chinese seller on ebay. I know virtually nothing about electrical wiring but these were incredibly easy to hook up. It helps that they're already in a strip so all you have to worry about is what wire at the end is positive and which is negative.

So how do you hook them up to batteries (what kind) and a swutch?
