Tron Legacy Costume

Thanks everybody! I can't wait to wear it tonight!

I know exactly where the problem is; we think Matt scored the lead wires when he stripped them because they're snapped off right where they go through the shirt. I was able to reconnect the panel by jamming the broken ends into the holes where they used to be, but I just tried to epoxy them back into place instead of soldering. It held for a while but went out again after I had been moving around a few minutes. I was going to try to solder them back in last night but it turns out the butane-fueled soldering iron is gunked up with epoxy because the bottles leaked in the mail...... :unsure If my roommate ever comes home I might try asking him for help, but I almost just want to cut my losses and quit pulling my hair out over one piece. There's another piece on the right foot that seems to have a jankity connection but I was having good luck with it last night so I'm going to pray to the Users for it to last a while longer.

The connections are so hard to get at because Matt encased them all in epoxy.... good idea for durability, but hard to get into to repair. This is all EL wire diffused with silicone, so they're all direct soldered connections. I wish I could use the handy alligator clips!

ARC, take it from me, it's worth the little bit of extra effort to go, strip the mistake out and do it over. You'll get so much more durability out of your costume and you will walk away wiser in the ways of electronics, not to mention with a great sense of accomplishment.

Good news everyone! My roommate says he will help me fix the collar after he gets home from work!

Right now I'm working on making a CD of Tron music to give the DJ to play for my sets. I'm also thinking about wearing my blue UV contacts and putting blue fiber optics in my hair.

Anyone who's in New Orleans should come out and visit me! I'll be at the Hustler Club after 10 or so!

Ok so we finally got this thing put together.... It seems the post office played rugby with it though since as soon as I got it out of the box it had a bunch of problems. The collar isn't lighting up as you can see. I've tried multiple fixes but it's breaking my heart so badly that I have given up for the night in an effort to save my sanity. There will be a couple tweaks tomorrow before work but this is pretty much it:

I offered to watermark them for Matt since I've been seeing an increase in Tron-suit plagiarism, not here of course, but mostly on facebook. I want to make sure he gets credit for all his hard work!

Sorry about the lack of makeup, it's super late and I'm frustrated and just not feelin' it. I reeeealllly hope I get some pictures taken at work tomorrow before the suit crashes and burns. We fully expect it to not last through the night, but plans are in the works for a better one for next year!

Anyway.... what do you think?

I think it's awesome! So much fun <3

Here's a gif from my Quorra cosplay <3

So wait....

The inverter I purchased takes 656 mAh input, and does 219 mAh output, and I'm powering let's say 144sq/inches of light tape, I'd need 17 size N radioshack batteries for my lights to stay on for 1 hour?

What?

How am I supposed to power this?

It looks amazing arc (and so does your body)!

A few spots not lighting up doesn't really make a big difference. When I finished my tron casual, one glove kept breaking. And spectators didn't notice but are tripped out!!! I think it looks spectacular. I'm trying to find your original post sketch to compare it with.

You know, I was about to make a small joke in an attempt to make you laugh a little, but I realized that the joke could have sounded rather creepy and I didn't want to disrespect you either. So, I won't joke.

But seriously, it looks pretty impressive so far. Honestly, I can see this outfit being in the EOLC scene (if it had been PG-13 related film I mean). For the collar, I agree with Jaedena, I'd probably be best to start over, but I say try to see where the problem is on the line before doing starting from scratch (I mean check each part, from the collar, to the wire where it connects to the collar, the wire itself and where it connects to wherever it means the main source of power), because it could easily be a simple as needing fix the connection or replace a wire. Of course, I've only some minor wiring work, so I can't say for certain if my advice would work.

Haha, now I'm curious about what you wanted to say. I'm not a career dancer and I don't really fit the negative stereotypes so I actually like to poke fun at my own profession fairly often. I don't creep out easily so feel free. :lol

With my roommate's help we got the neck piece working again. It's a pretty tenuous connection so I'm hoping the solder with epoxy ALL over it will hold, but I won't be surprised if it goes out again. I don't know if I'll rip it out and make a new one on this particular outfit but since I want to make a Mark II version, I'm sure we'll be able to apply our knowledge gained from all the mistakes we made on this attempt.

Unfortunately, one of the shoe segments has decided to die, and neither Ed nor I could figure out how to get at the bad connection, so we're letting it go for now. I have to go to work in about 15 minutes so we don't have time to mess with it any more. Matt says he will fix it when he gets into town on Sunday but unfortunately him being in town also means I'll not be working any more this weekend so I won't have any more chances to wear it at the club.

And for the one looking for the original sketch, the post is here: http://www.therpf.com/f24/tron-legacy-costume-88230/index178.html#post1936087

Oh damn! I'm 40 miles north of you! ahha

I'm in my Tron gear about to head out to B.R. tho....damn! hey, maybe I can convince my group to head to the Quarter!

Well, the "joke" I was about to say, I was actually going to go, "If you're not already taken, will you marry me?" But, like I said, I realized it sounded rather creepy more than it did funny, so I decided to exclude it.

Good to hear that your roommate is going to help out. I'd be worrying about the electric wiring and the EL wires as well. I know that for the production, the actors couldn't sit down normally and had to lean back on a flat board so that they could relax, because the wiring in the suit could easily break, so what you're going through I'm sure it happened a few times on the set in one costume or another.

Just finished my Quorra costume last night. This thread has been really informative! Not entirely accurate - I didn't get the neckline right and didn't get the seams right either. I really wanted to make it light up, but didn't have the time or funds. Eh, maybe later. The scotchlite tape is pretty bright and shows a nice glow with the flash.

Took it out for a night on the town last night and was surprised how well it held up!

Hey all, I'm new to the forum. I just finished a Rinzler costume that I put together over about two weeks. It's not 100% accurate, but I was happy with it for my first try at a costume. I hope you guys like it. The "T" on the chest and the circles in the back also lit up, however they were not in these photos. I'm hoping to put a thread together explaining the whole process soon.

Is it bad I was tempted to make the same joke?

Hmm there may be only one way to solve that, looks down at light disk.

In related news even though I am to broke to buy EL Tape to make my costume light up I just one three Halloween costume contests!! Now if only I didn't have to pay tuition out of pocket, I might actually be able to buy that El tape.

Here are some pics of me and my Fiancee at the big halloween party we attended. I was very excited, my costumes turned out great. Everyone loved them and wanted to take our pics. We came in second to a guy that made an electric chair that he wore and it had a strobe light and a fog machine in it that made him look like he was frying! LOL

First of all, I'd like to start with a huge thank to at least the following: colonelmasako, fireslayer26, jason527, vew, tim and just about everyone else on here.

Although I did not finish my costume, I got the major parts completed had a very awesome night.

Ended up wining second place at a bar tonight. Most people said I should have own first prize, but that went to a dude (who was actually a buddy of mine) that was dressed up like Rex Ryan and his girl friend was a foot.

Either way, so many people love my costume., including me.

I plan to post another message about the details of what I did to create it, but I will do that tomorrow when I have more time.

Hello everyone! I wanted to post a picture of the first version of my Quorra costume from this weekend (I'm fixing it a bit for the con I'm going to next weekend). :)
