Tron Legacy Costume

Re: Purchase link for Mr. Digital's Flashback Flynn Jacket

IM SO PUMPED RIGHT NOW! .......Thank You, what size did you get? how tall are you and how much do you weight?
You really should take some of your own measurements and order the size jacket that would best fit you. Even if you have a similar shape to MD it's highly unlikely that whatever measurements he used would be suitable for you as well.

Well, I pulled an all-nighter last night so I could have something to wear to Anaheim Comic-Con today. Judging from the reactions I got, I did a pretty good job. As soon as I get the pics uploaded I'll post them up. Man it feels good to finally have a Tron outfit!!!

Great work and a good walk-thru Shogun. Thanx for the insight into your methods.

I will more detail when con is over!

It's cool! Now do it in El tape. :p

I want to but need more money, if you commission me, I can :p

Awesome stuff shogun! I don't think it needs EL Tape...that's my opinion. Reflective tape can achieve the same effect, lay flatter in some areas, and still look really good!

Thank you! I take a que from Annisse who first did reflective and it looked dope!

just one question for you, seeing as how the finished jacket has yellow reflective tape did you just paint over the white or highlight it or something? i need to know so i can do my military style jacket.

I can't say for certain, but I bet he just used yellow. Notice how he bought the Red/White tape and separated it to use just the white. The other common reflective color for that kind of striped tape is Yellow/Black. You see it on semi trucks all the time.

He's right! I used a separate yellow.

Buying Red/White and cutting it up is very much harder than working with White to begin with, just saying. :) White is out there, you just have to dig a bit harder to find it.

I don't like buying what I can't return. I can find it online but shipping, blah, blah, hassle. Plus when I did find the colors its was way too small and too bright in the flash.

It was beautiful! worth the time! Its just too bad you couldn't go to elecTRONica with us!

Mister Digital's Flashback Flynn inspired civilian program

The jacket and the disc are done! Now on to the shoes. My boots turned out to bigger and bulky than expected. So I'm thinking to do a leather/perforated high top sneaker with the same side lights. Here's what I have so far...

Greetings programs! My LED based suit is still working, somehow, but everytime I wear it something breaks, so I have to repair it (mostly velcro coming off the armor I mounted it on). Wore it to a rave to save Japan in Colorado, was a charity event. Holy crap I've never gotten more attention or more cheers from so many people. I walked in and the whole group just stopped dancing, started shouting and surrounded me taking lots of pictures, with me only able to dance the robot with my suit (mobility is difficult). These tron suits really are awesome to wear and people really enjoy them. Sadly I'm only 1 of 2 people in Colorado who have pulled off light up tron suits, I hope more will be at the convention coming up in September (NDK).

Future work will include a green colored suit for my girlfriend, and I really want to get a full disc mod kit from Soulinertia when I have the funds. Good luck to all who are working on this stuff, the results are well worth the pain.

On a side note, I am running my 23" EL stip on a 2xAA inverter. It looks great in a dim environment, but I'm fining that in the daylight or in a store it still looks pink. You guys think I could beef it up to 9v or 12v to whiten it up, or is that just the effects of daylight/fluorescent light on this type of thing. I remember reading someone saying that it wreaks havoc on the cool factor of EL. I'd rather not buy another inverter if it won't fix the problem. Thoughts?

I'd go for one of LuminousFilm's 12VDC inverters that can run at least 48 square inches of EL tape. You could put the (fairly small) inverter in a pocket and run some wires to a battery pack on a belt or in another pocket.

Bro, that is off the hook! :thumbsup

Mister digital, how did you go about making the disc holder look? like how did you apply it to your jacket?

If you backtrack to my older posts (maybe around the 10th post or so) you will find some info on the hub I made. I did a few tries before I got it the way I wanted. I made it out of 3 different sized plastic/tupperware containers. The disc snaps on tight, but there is a metal ring inside the hub that the disc magnets can grab onto just in case. The bottom of the hub has 6 magnets and there are 6 more inside the jacket holding it all there.

All in all, it was less than $20 to make. The only things you need is containers, paint, glue, and magnets.

That sir looks awesome. What method did you end up using to attach the el tape?

Nothing like a simple, to the point, 'looks like it should' bit of costume to make us all take notice. Well done MD.

will you have a video to post of your tutorial for the tupaware disc holder creations or will you just post pic's showing the steps?
