Tron Legacy Costume

I'm been looking at motorcross body armor and i have a question. (Sorry for so many questions) Alot of the armor has alot of holes in them. I've found some armor that maybe possible to use for my costume but i would like to have the chest armor more smooth.

My question is: What would be good to fill in the holes of the armor to make it smoother ? Would bondo (think thats the name) work ?

This is one of the armors i like. Looks like it would be a more fitted fit and the armor isn't big and bulky. Also i think it's good for us ladies to as it came up for when i searched for womens motorcross armor.

A simple, though time consuming option, fill the holes with hot glue or other easy fill material and then paint the whole plate(s) with PlastiDip to get the rubber look.

You could just leave the holes open. Personally I think that would look a much cooler, especially if you take some of them off and put El panels inside.

Well one week to go till the Con. I finished everything, even my magnetic disk mount. Sadly I have not been able to find any gloves. I am going to hit some resale sports stores and try to find some batters gloves. I may also grab some shin/forearm guards and spray them black just to give some more definition to my jacket.

Check this armor out, it's sleeker and the shoulder pads are a better match. Nemeses Racing Body Armor | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Yes I've been considering the motocross body armor route for the costume too. :)

Thanks for your help and suggestions really appreciate it. :)

I have came across someone's photo of doing it that way with the lights shining through the holes of the armor and it does look pretty good, gives a nice effect and design.I think i may go with smoothing the armor so i can have a more of the circuit design. Thank you though cyvaris :)

Have fun at the Con next week. Please post pics if you have some or from the con would really like to see.

Thanks for the link Danny, that looks pretty good and it's a pretty good price to. I may consider it. Goodluck with your suit. Will be making your own program or one of the characters suits ?

Hi SqueekinOrka, I really, really, really wanna do the Sam Flynn costume. :)

The brave part of me wants to buy this guy, Realistic Masculine Male Mannequin, sculpt the suit on him out of clay, take a mold off of that, and then cast the suit out of rubber just like the Hollywood people did. The reasonable part of me thinks I'm nuts for considering it. Especially since I live in a NY studio apt, that guy would be my ever present roommate. :lol

Hello all, first time RPF user. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the great information and inspiration.

I've made it through 40 pages so far, 122 pages in itself will be quite the accomplishment, lol.

I'm in the planning and purchasing stages, already purchased quite a bit of EL wire, tape, and inverters.

I ride and race motorcycles, so I plan on starting with my black leather track gear and building up from there. I plan on doing my own variation as my own program.

One thing I find many users have been overlooking is, many of the civilian programs were not wearing tight clothes. See the scenes when Sam is first grabbed up by the guards, and the ELC Club. Most of the programs are wearing loose pants, with no lighting at all. The program talking to Castor wanting to speak to Zues was even wearing baggy cargo pants. This just helps making a costume easier for some. I uploaded a pic here:

So I plan on doing a civilian causual kind of look, fully lit up.

Just wanted to say this is probably my new favorite movie. I'm a long time Anime fan and Electro/House music fan, but this year will be my first attending Cons, Dragon con, Animazement, etc. Looking so forward to being around my fellow geeks.

Edit** Just thought I'd add what I have so far to give other users some more options..

Jacket: Cortech Latigo Black

Boots: Sidi Vertigo (Very crazy sci-fi looking already)
5129-boots.jpg

Pants: Unionbay Cargo Pants, Black
5128-pants.jpg

Gloves: Cortech Accelerator 2
5130-gloves.jpg

Helmet: (If I decide to wear one) Bell Star, Black Visor

Lighting: EL wire and Tape purchased from Glowhut.com. Possibly some cuttable sheets later if need be.

Disc: I already purchased a Deluxe Identity Disc, but found something interesting. It hasnt come out yet, but it looks like they are releasing a new collectors disc set with a collectible Identity Disc that stays lit up. Could be eaier to Mod than the other discs.

Baton: Purchased the cheapo cycle shooting toy. (plan on making it into the Katana)

Sorry for having such a long first post, lol.

PS. As I havnt made it through all 122 pages yet.. Has anyone made the Light grenades? I'm already planning on making a Light Katana like Quorra uses, but I would like some Light Grenades as well.

I have not heard the term light grenade before, would you care to elaborate so we can assist?

The grenades, or mines, (I saw the term Grenade from the Tron Wiki page), that were used to blow up the Club and screw up the elevator. Usually worn on the bad guys legs. I was thinking about doing a couple blue good guy grenades.

Good idea, but you should remember this: they sculpted the suit using laser imaging technology, computers, and other advanced stuff to make it fit Garrett (Sam) perfectly. If the mannequin isn't the same measurements as you, you could encounter some problems. If it is the same, then carry on and post some WIP pics because I would LOVE to see that process! :D

I'm going the civilian look as well with my friend. I have a picture of mine in my profile if you are curious. I got my friends jacket in the mail and will be working on that pretty soon so I'll put up pictures probably before he even sees it :lol

Haha wow it really looks like you and I have similar ideas. I ordered a white oak bokken stick off ebay and am going to transform it into a katana. The grenades on the other hand I probably won't do

They kinda look like modded identity discs to me.... try to get a mold of your identity disc the mod it?

They're less expensive, check out the Sidi Fusion boots. Less armor, but still a similar look.

Hey if any of you are planning on going the rubber casting route (toying with the idea myself but scared to hell I'm going to end up with nothing but a hot mess and no costume :lol), here's a great resource, The Monster Makers they sell pre-made pourable black latex rubber for costuming, they call it "Bat Black", "Bat" as in the black rubber Batman movie costume, and the price is very reasonable $35 for a gallon, I imagine a gallon for the torso and another gallon for the legs? Not sure, never did this before.

Hey who here has done this sort of thing before, casting a rubber costume from a sculptured mold. Have any insights for us? Is there anything in the forums to instruct us noobs? I'm gonna lurk through the Batman threads and see if anyone has published the steps, except for the secondary steps of wiring and EL tape, the process should be exact for the Batman costume.

I think I may have just stumbled upon a boot perfect for Kevin Flynn's first appearance on the grid. It even has a raised circle over the ankle area that would be perfect for the lighting. They could also work great for any custom/civilian program. And at $129. they are totally affordable, and a sweet pair of boots when your costuming days are over.
