Tron Legacy Costume

I'm curious to know what you all think about this jacket I found. Considering that the Flynn jacket was more than likely a modified Alphine NYC perforated jacket, I was searching along those lines. I came across this. I'm pretty confident that this could be suitable enough after modifications.

That looks very good. Are those armor pieces in the raised sections of the jacket?

I did see a perforated leather jacket by Guess at TJ Maxx today for $59, but it was a very shiny leather with a wrinkled finish, plus chrome rivets at pocket corners and the like. Rather poopy-looking overall, sadly.

On another note, I did see some Under Armour bags that had a hexagon pattern printed on them, though of a shiny material and with thinner lines than the movie's hex print. Even so, it might be an option for some folks if the print is available on other Under Armour fabrics.

Those are indeed armor plates in the arms and shoulder areas.

The BIG issue with Bike or Cycle quality jackets.. the arms are stooooopidly long unless you are bent over a bike. Imagine the arms of your favorite jacket, 3in longer they are now, with the elbows oversized and all puffed out. Looks sloppy and childish unless you can shorten the sleeves (which is tough with most leather jackets).

I want to note that they make them in various sizes. Now the jacket from the link I found is for a 3xl. I have the link to the sale thread, but IDK if he sells others at the same price.

As for the long sleeves, that dosn't bother me, but then again, that's because of how big I am lol

I have sampled 7 biker/cycle jackets thus far that all had GREAT looks.. but every single one looked like crap on me due to my having normal length arms. :rolleyes

On an ELTape question:
Does anyone know where to find Etco Teeth Clips. They tend to be '<' shaped, with 6-8 teeth on the inside edge, meant for biting right into the sheet of ELTape and acting as a conductive connector?

So, I figured to start tearing apart the insides of my disc. I tried to pop out the C-ring, it split at where one of the LEDs would go into it. So, after that, I dremeled out the part that would surround it on the inside and pulled out all the electronics. Figures that I would see that soldering mod AFTER the fact, hahah! So, I popped the C-ring back in, and the split is slighly noticable if you are looing for it. What I need to find is an LED strip that I can just mount inside. Essencially, I am trying to find the easy way here.

Eh, don't feel bad. My biggest issue with jackets/shirts lies with them being just too short, despite "fitting" me otherwise. As for jackets, it's easy to find one that'll fit everywere, but the sleeves will never be as long as they need to be for me.

I was lucky the other day when I found a P-Coat on sale that fit me perfectly, sleeves and all. Great discount too.

I emailed the seller of this jacket, has the company name on the jacket, but the store is no longer active on Ebay, however, the posting for the sale is. I asked if he has more of these that they are making. I will also note that the jacket has pictured with it the armor pieces that go with it.

IDK, I'm seriously thinking about picking this up since it would fit me, and I wouldn't mind making a "casual Anon Program" costume...

Lucky long-armed bastage. :)

I found this, with normal sleeves mind you, at Burlington Coat Factory just minutes from my home for $39.

Not as armored as I would pref, but that is easily fixed with some minor additions of foam/rubber. The ELTape is already being cut to size and I think 5ft of said green tape will be more than enough for this jacket.

Looks good! My biggest concern would be this part: properly attaching the EL strip to the jacket and making it look clean and sharp. Other than that, is there any wider EL strips? IMO I feel the strip you have there is too narrow, but I don't know much yet about EL tape.

ELTape comes in many different widths, with (from what I have seen) the most common being 3/4in - 1 1/2in. I picked up this 3/4in strip as a low cost (1.4meter @ $13.00 with connector attached) bit to experiment with.

I was thinking of going with 1.25in - 1.5in width, but it gets expensive real fast when you jump up in width.

I tested a section of tape with some leather scrap, attaching the tape with E6000 glue. Holds like a charm and it 'should' look clean so long as I follow the natural lines of the jacket.

I got my LED strips from ebay. It was only around $6 shipped for a 60cm/60 LED strip. I haven't received them yet so I can't vouch for their brightness, but if they're anything like the pictures they should be plenty sufficient to light the rings. A search for "SMD LED strip" should give you what you're looking for.

Thats what I was thinking. I wouldn't mind spending a little extra if it makes it look better in the long run. As for attaching it, I was thinking about having it almost "sewn" in, sorta recessed a bit, but that might be wishful thinking..

Well Burlington was a bust, nothing good left. I like the one jacket I linked, but sadly its both a woman's jacket, which would be awkward to size, and it has a "fur" undersell. I could just order it and hope for the best, but if it doesn't work I am stuck with it.

Regardless I picked up the jacket I saw at walmart, here are a few terrible quality pictures.

Its not great but I think if I were to do some work and "buff" it out with stuff I find at thrift stores it could work. The jacket it self is very light weight and meshy, which is actually sort of nice since it is breathable then. I plan to take wire to the collar so it will stand up. Any suggestions on what type of material I should keep an eye out for? Maybe if I can find a relatively stiff jacket, or something leather I ca hack them apart.
As for the decoration part, I plan to use reflective tape on the stripes down the should, they are recessed so that helps a lot. Then I am going to do a strip of El tape down the front to cover the logo. That might change if I find some stuff to buff it up with though.

Also here is a shot of the sports equipment I plan to tear apart.

You have to be lucky and dig through tons of crap jackets. At this point in their clearance sales, finding another like this would be a trial indeed.

Yeah mine had nothing left, I may hit up the one thats a little further away, just got to get lucky I suppose. How heavy is the jacket you got, and how did it run size wise? I am on their site, browsing stuff and just wanted some info from someone who had seen the type of jackets I am looking at.

I was thinking of tearing up sports gear to get parts, any suggestions on what might work?

I own this exact jacket size L.

you can get them wider but at the same time the longest i have been able to find the wider ones are a foot. It only covered about half my jacket

Size wise it ran about true to listed, perhaps a tad smaller than the tag stated. This actually worked in my favor as I was looking to trim the style down to be more 'form fitting' as TRON items tend to be. It is a light jacket, thin and soft.

Their site just sucks. There is nearly NOTHING on the site that is actually in the stores. They show about 8-10 mens leather jackets while the store racks have an easy 100 different styles in Clearance alone up for grabs.

For those who are going the reflective leather suit route, I sent this rough draft to a company who makes custom motorcycle racing suits. All of their custom stuff seems to be under 400, with CE approved body armor. The styles are pretty cool. SO far, they said they can make any or their styles in all black and add this as reflective material. I'm waiting for the exact quote, but it could be a very affordable alternative to the UD suits. It's no SA or licensed, but just a general Tron Legacy look. I''l keep you posted.
