Tron Legacy Costume

Sorry for busting in here without catching up, but I was wondering if anyone had any info on this guy? He has a rather nice Daft Punk Cameo suit, and I'd be curious to know who the maker is:

So I have been reworking my costume. I came up with a new look and concept drawing, at least for the 1.5 version of my program. Also finished up the new solid disk holder. And yesterday before the game I got my armor and reflective tape cut and put together. I ended up coating the foam with black latex to give it structure, strength, and make it blend better with the jacket. My next project is to line the edges with orange el wire.

I figure I will just keep adding and changing my costume throughout the con season until I end up with the final version at Dragoncon.

I dig it, its unique! Did you draw inspiration from the Tron concept book?

Valentines Day Project.

These colors along with 5 reds, will be made into roses on Monday the 14th. If you find me while I'm making them, "Mr. Origami Roses" you will get one. By there is catch, you must find me. I'll be in a very public place, not some hole in the wall coffee shop, but a place iconic. I'm sure most of you can guess where I'll be from my previous post but if you have time, you'll get a special rose for your find.

First RPF user may get a special elecTRONic rose

There is no profit in it for me, simply an artistic whim, no one is sponsoring me or anything, and I don't mind if you repost this.

I'll be making them all day. And each takes about an hour. I may post clues.... if there is enough interest.

P.S. Really sorry but I'm in southern California and it'll be at the happiest place in socal, for all others out of state. Still debating if I should do it in my tron coat.

I love my origami as much as I love cosplay, and I thought I'd share my creativity to others who've helps me with my tron gear. The thread rocks!!!!

/// also who dug will.i.am super bowl tron cosplay?

I wonder if I can get some tips from those that have used ELTape thus far, spec on the cutting of lengths and connector mounting. I have 5ft of GreenOff/GreenOn ELTape:

with a quick connect on one end but am not sure how to go about cutting the strip down into 3-4 sections for this jacket (if I end up keeping it, though at $30 who can complain):

A single line down the front along the zipper, another pair on the shoulders and one about the neck was my plan. Leaving me sooner or later in a place near to this:

I love how I just can't stick to one costume once I wear it out somewhere.. I HAVE to make something else, new, and complicated. :p

yeah, i got (and love) the concept art book. plus being an illustrator myself, i always have a hard time doing a exact replica costume. i love movies like tron that offer us a lot of cool ideas, with all the same theme.

My company has its own mixture, but our base is from FX Supply. We just add a certain amount of water and pigment.

I will see how this holds up (though our masks and elf ears last for years), but i think it should do pretty well.

NICE!!!!!! that's damn near perfect! :eek :thumbsup

Nice work on the disk holder, but why the change? The other one you made looked really secure, albeit the foam one is visually pleasing. Did the foam turn out like a hard plastic? Plus, I'm glad someone else is going the 'evil' route.

the new holder is made out of hard plastic as well. i just took the old plastic one and filled in all the cut outs. i am casting them out of Smooth On; smooth cast 300. it just has the uniform foam look :)

even though i really enjoyed the texture and cut outs of the old one, most of the group of us at Aradani doing costumes preferred the solid one.

Here is my thread about the disk holder.

Hey everyone, I wanted to see what the collective genius thought of this idea for modifying the ID disk:

I plan on casting a new c ring and flange ring for the disk.

I have heard, that EL wire is much like glow sticks, so, I thought before I go down that road, why not stuff glow sticks in the thing and see what it looks like. Here are the results

As you can see, the outer ring is dim at best, and this is in low light, no flash.

Side view shows it is hardly lit. I am thinking about removing the attachment, or having a channel inside the flange ring to run the EL wire, so it will actually sit pretty well on the outside. What are the thoughts; will this be bright enough or will I have to go the route of LEDs for the disk?

I know your probably not using the same brand, but I think the principles will be the same. Take a look at the PDFs on Light Tape's website. Perhaps the connectors will be different but the recommendation to run a parallel connection is likely applicable. Your wiring is likely going to get a little tricky so, measure twice cut once. You'll want to seal any cuts in the tape

You probably want to solder and heat shrink any connections. I'd also consider running your wires is lower movement areas. I would use some form of template, so you can measure not only length but also if the tape will bend correctly.

Take a look at this diagram. http://lighttape.com/library/DesignGuide/Connecting_Multiple_Segments.pdf

TY Rain. I had taken a good amount of movement and flex/connection issues into account already, but it's always good to get second and tenth opinions where electricity is concerned. :)

So I want to cut some el tape and lighttape.com says you can if you use a special sealing tape (they say they sell it) but theres no where on the site that you can actually buy it. Does anyone know where I can obtain some?

I would add that I am kinda wondering what one would use to act as a 'connector clip' for each lead that goes to the ELTape.

I'm not sure what, if anything, is special about it. Perhaps if you just made sure it was sealed so no moisture could get in you'd be find. There is a video where they use a plastic cap and epoxy. Worse case just give them a call. There is also another CA company that sells EL Tape (californeon).

Just a heads up for those wondering about the difference between the 2.6mm cool neon wire and the 5mm cool neon wire.

I believe the wire itself is the same width. The only difference I see is that the 5mm is in much thicker plastic tubing than the 2.6 which I guess is what they use to determine that it is 5mm.

Also, when lit the 5mm Pink off White on that I got looks slightly blue when lit where the 2.6mm looks slightly pink. Personally, I will probably stick with the 5mm because it seems more durable and I like the color better but really, the difference is negligible.

Also, when you scrape off the pink phosphorous to solder to a connector, don't shave it off too far down or the really thin angel wires will short the connection out every time you move the wire a little bit.
