Tron Legacy Costume

That's what I thought too, and I made a very good case for it.

But as expected...Disney told me in the nicest possible way to go fly a kite:

Like I said, I already got into DCA with my Quorra costume. I was completely covered up going thru the main gate. It was night time already which helped too, maybe, but once I was in. Took off my coat and was in ElecTRONica the entire time with no problem. This was in October, maybe they let costumes slide for Halloween month. Yes, now I risk getting turned away or thrown out once I am in the park in costume.

It is a risk I will take since I live in LA. Compass I would feel the same as you since you are coming in out of state and wouldn't want to go thru all that, taking that risk.

But if you change your mind for this weekend or another weekend and DO want to take that risk, please let us know.

I am still going for it this Sat. going in Quorra to ElecTRONica for anyone that cares to meet up there with me ;)

Looking Good :)

Yours too! So excited to see everyone lighting up and possible meet ups at ElecTRONica! I am a risk taker, somewhat bad girl, never follows the rules person :p, and love to see how far I can take things. Hey, we only live once, worst thing is they kick us out or tell us to change. Don't matter to me. At least I tried :D

Looking HOTT as usual Annisse ;)

Nice work halo36.

Not quite finished with all the pieces, but it's as far as I got in time for Halloween:

Thank you LOOKING SWEET! :D

Finally got some pictures up! I'm so impressed with everyone's costume. It's a lot of work to do four costumes. Thanks be to E6000. Everything held well and our one 9v battery lasted for 5 hrs.

WOW!!! best group TRON costumes ever! That must have been HELL going thru that, making 4 light up costumes. Totally worth it though :D KUDOS to you! Awesome work all of you!

A friend of mine texted me Halloween night from the WE HO carnival around 8pm there are so many TRON costumes, to get over there and wear Quorra. I wish I would have now ;) you guys must have been some of the ones she was telling me about.

Now I want to get my costume lite up more than ever!!!!!

Hey thanks for the info on using Pot Planters painted Black to hold the ID disc. All I need is some magnets now & go to a Garden shop. Everyone's costume's looks amazing. Anyone out there has pictures of a Siren, Clu's sentry, or Rinzler outfits please post.

Just found this wonderful Quorra costume. Trying to get her to join our group ;)

Was so excited to find her photos, I just had to post her link since it is public. She said she will be posting a tutorial on how she rigid her lighting.

Said she used EL Film, I wonder if she means EL Tape? Never heard of EL Film. She also posted the Glowhut.com link on her profile on this link. So if this lighting is from Glowhut. Hmmmmm, I may be using El Tape now instead of El Wire. I really have to think about this now. I heard GlowHut.com Tape was not that good, or bright, but this looks pretty damn good to me!

Hope she will join our thread and if so, forgive my enthusiasm for posting your photos before you could :)

I just love this TRON sign on Sunset for her background. Very good idea and glad she found this. I am so going there to take pics now of my own when I am lite up! AWSOME!

Hi ya everyone,

As requested by the lovely Annisse, here are my quorra pics.

FYI, I never intended to make a replica so it's a bit of my own take on the theme.

I used EL tape which I cut and resoldered into different sections to get the proper angles. I laser the pattern for the harness. The EL film harness is velcroed onto the vest itself so the vest is washable. Also lets me troubleshoot the film easily in case things go astray after a night of wear.

I'll post a tutorial on fashioningtech.com in the next few weeks on how to work with EL tape. It's tricky and a pain but I think I came up with a few solid solutions.

Thanks!

Oh YAY!!! I was literally just posting your link here when you posted yours! Sorry for posting your link of your Quorra photos girl. You look amazing and I am so excited to see this and was anxious to share with everyone here! Great work! ;D

So I got my undersuit and one of the deluxe disks. From some of the images I have seen in images posted I might be able to mod some old hockey shin/ knee pads... A bit of progress... I will post pics in a few days.
Re: Disney and costumes... I was wanting to do a costume gathering for the premier at downtown Disney. I don't know how that will fly, but there were tons of costumers for the last Harry Potter movie, so looks like it might be a go.

Ohhhh that is a great idea! To get a group of the TRON costumers together and watch the premiere at Downtown Disney! Never thought of that. BRILLIANT!

Only thing is, does the AMC, I think that is the theater there, have an IMAX screen? I really want to see it on IMAX for the 1st time.

I was going to get my tixs for Dec. 17th at the Universal City Walk IMAX.

But if everyone is going to get together at Downtown Disney, I would rather go with a huge group of us. Makes more of an impact ;)

SO EXCITED NOW! :D

YESSSSSSS!!!! you are on the same track as me ;) Good Luck getting us permission to go in costume. OMG! that would be awesome! Especially not having to wear my damn coat and look like a hunchback freak due to the disk/hub on my back from the chest armour, walking thru Downtown Disney making my way to the main gate. LOL!! It was quite halirous but I did not care! :D

COMPASS we WILL get in! Come over and join us! If not this weekend, then another.

I love ElecTRONica so much right now, wish I could go every night! HA!

Y'know, it's times like these that I wish I lived in LA...

Anyways, salutations all! I've been lurking around the forum for a bit. I was going to sign on a few months back when I wanted to make a Quorra costume. However, I had only seen small bits and pieces of her and wrongly thought her costume was a complex one-piece suit. Now that there's material out, I know that's not the case. So here I am!

I'm still debating whether to do a budget costume for the movie premiere or go high-quality for conventions. But I know there's some things I can use for either.

Wig - I'm going to hit up the local costuming shops for after-Halloween sales. Quorra's hair seems to be in a pretty basic bob, so I don't think a wig should be too hard to find.

Undershirt - Ideally, I'd love to purchase material from Soulinertia's amazing silkscreening. But if not, my backup plan is to make a stencil and airbrush gray hexagons onto a black athletic spandex top.

Armour - If I do the budget route, I'm not really sure how I'm going to do it. But if I do the high-quality route, a couple friends and I are going to get a wee bit ambitious. It'll be body-casting time!:love More to come on that...

Gloves - I'm going to hit up the local costuming stores for after-Halloween sales for Quorra's gloves. I imagine a fabric, such as cotton gloves or sateen should do alright. (Though what fabric did they use for her gloves in the film?)

Identity Disk - Are the plastic deluxe toys alright or should I just make my own?

Skirt - What in the world is going on with that skirt? Is it a piece all unto itself or is it part of something else?

Pants - As far as I can tell one could use a pair of basic leather leggings for Quorra, right?

Boots - I'm at a loss on how to modify these. I found a really lovely looking pair on ebay yesterday, only to have them be a few sizes too big (AND the sale just ended. Rats!) The closest wedges I've been able to find were an older pair of Colin Stuart for Victoria's Secret black leather wedges. Sadly, Victoria's Secret doesn't carry the leather ones anymore, only stretch wedges.

I ain't even touching the lighting issue yet! My head is positively reeling from reading back over the 34 pages of this thread. Though it's definitely a wealth of information and I thank you all for it.

(Major shout out to Annisse. It's because of your costume that I found this site. My jaw dropped open when I saw your costume. So I hope mine can look half as good as yours! :) )

This weekend is definitely out; but my mind is made up to get out there and party with the gang, with or without costume. Keep me informed of your party dates, and I'll eventually free up a day where I can fly out, party, and fly back before anyone knows I'm gone.

On another note, I've begun research on a Clu costume. I just think the pattern is so cool, and it will be interesting to see how a yellow clear coat works with the EL sheet.

This one will go up for sale on eBay, hopefully in time for the buyer to wear it to the premiere.

No Imax in Anaheim. So do we want to see it IMAX at Universal/or somewhere else as a group? (we should buy our tickets now if we can)
I'm up for seeing it IMAX 3D at midnight at Universal Citywalk. But it would also be cool to get a group together, (in costume of course). ;) Opinions?

Yes, we'll definately keep posting on here future trips to ElecTRONica and getting ready for the premiere.

I like the idea of getting together at Downtown Disney to see the premiere but IMAX sounds even more incredible. Especially at the City Walk, nice crowds there to show off our costumes ;)

I can't make the midnight showing cuz I work on the night of the 16th. I might even be taking Dec. 17th off work just to go see the movie cuz I work graveyard shift that month. This is always the hardest part, finding a time slot that works for everyone with our busy lives.

Ummmm well if you all don't mind going on Dec. 17th at the Universal IMAX let's try and get together then. We can go for drinks and food at the Hard Rock maybe, it's right next to the theater. Then hit the movie.

Now to pick a time slot??? I am gonna look now to see if we can even buy tixs already.

OK just looked, here we go. Universal IMAX 3D. What do you all think of the 7pm time slot? Just in case I can't get work off.

Hey Annisse,

That was me that wasn't real happy with the EL tape from GlowHut.com. The segment they sent me was very poor quality and had shoddy construction. That's why I dismissed it as a possible lighting source for the costume. But seeing Syuzi's costume, it looks AWESOME!! That bears absolutely NO RESEMBLANCE to the EL tape segment that I received from GlowHut! LOL! Syuzi's costume looks fantastic! So Annisse, I say go ahead and give it a try! At least maybe order a single segment so you can evaluate it. Maybe I just got a bad segment when I ordered mine. When I was looking at Syuzi's pics, I was wondering what company she used for the EL tape because it looked so good. So maybe GlowHut isn't that bad after all! I say go for it! :D

Hey! Haven't heard from you in awhile. :) how you been?

I might wait till she posts her tutorial. I still don't know what I am going to do about the curved parts of the light for Quorra's costume. So, I want to see what Syuzi did. Otherwise if I use EL Tape. I am afraid it is just going to look sloppy or the tape will break if I try to even make a bend and curve it.

That is why I like eddie's idea with the masking tape on top to diffuse it, plus El Wire is alot cheaper especially since I will be going for accuracy.

Dear Annisse, Sorry I haven't posted to you in a while. I was working with the EL wire. I found using small plastic tubes used in tropical fish motors. They sell them by themselves. Try WAL MART. I was able to insert the EL wire inside to make it flexable. In other words, I'm goint to use the plastic tube with the EL wire inside, and then glue that to the white vinyl sheet(as the backround), and then the top vinyl (I'm using RED), any color you choose,on top. I'm doing this to avoid the EL wire from breaking. But if it does, I can always pull out the wire from the plastic tube and replace it with a new one.The vinyl sheet stays on the fabric. No need to re-glue it. This test was so much better than I expected. Let me know if you're going to use the EL tape. Best of Luck

PS I going with the EL wire because it uses so little battery power. El tape may work but it's also breakable. I know EL wire does also, but I think this method is better And later easy to repair. Remember that TRON LEGACY is going to have more sequels. I want my outfit to be easily repairable. All the Best!
