Tron Legacy Costume

How about a security pen and UV LED? You'd have to find a good place to hide the UV LED so it pointed at the design on your face, but it would look very ISO, and is a very simple setup.

Ehh, be careful here, do some research. UV Leds are low power, but it doesn't take much to damage your eyes. UV LEDs pointed anywhere near or at your eyes, without glasses or any protection, just sounds like a bad idea. And it may not work either, so do some experiments.

Most blue LEDs have enough UV coming out of them to illuminate flourescent objects, so I know that works. But blue in your eyes is also a problem: look up blue radiation effects on a retina, its bad stuff. For an LED its not as bad, but some blue LED diodes are considered laser products in brightness.

Be cautious I guess. Don't blind yourself, or damage your eyes, they are too important just for a silly costume. Have you considered fiber optics? Might be easier and less damaging. Light source in your hair, fiber runs down your face, etc.

I have perfect eyesight Definetly won't be doing that uv led thing that just sounds dangerous the el wire trick I'm doing is actually going to go around my eye I will post a pic later of that design concept. The makeup thread for tron is dead lol tried posting there but no such luck

@StarForge: Soul inertia used to have the hex patterned cloth idk if he still does u will have to msg him.
I think the last time I checked with him about the fabric he hadn't started a run yet, but it was still something he wanted to come back to? I think his was one of the first that caught my attention :D

@StarForge: Can't wait to see your Rinzler build! I definitely think you should do the hexagons. I'm a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to with my build. It really adds that nice little detail to your costume. As far as how to... I planned to use a stencil and spray paint it on myself. I've also seen people screen print it, as well as special order the fabric from a user on the RPF. I forget who though...

I followed the progress on your costume and wow, what a costume! Amazing work!

A relative of mine used to do screen printing and I was hoping they'd be able to help me get this going. I'm going to get materials to make my screen next week and hopefully get some tests going. I'm still not sure what approach I'll take to the armour on the suit... latex sculpting? I'm not ruling anything out yet, setting my sights high hehe

@PetiteAltesse heres the design concept (heavy on the concept) for the el wire... please excuse my poor lines lol ive never used gimp before im more proficient in photoshop.

That was what I thought as well.

Thank you so much! I'm very glad you like it. C:

Ooo, lucky you! I hope the screen printing works out for you. I wish I had one! D8
And as far as the armor goes I think you should sculpt it. My fiancee is hell bent on trying to sculpt Rinzler's armor for version two of my costume. It'll take some time, but it will look really good. Plus, it will be lighter, easier to move in, and you can make it as accurate as possible. Are you using LED's or reflective tape?

So excited to see yours! 8D

I truly think you will have a hard time getting the wire to stick with just latex. I would look into prosthetics (I know I keep saying that, but if you are set on the el wire for your face, then I think this is the best option - just my opinion though) or other methods of creating the glow on your face. If all else fails... reflective tape.

I think EL wire would look amazing on the coat you designed.

im making the prosthetic watched a youtube video on how to make the molds for latex prosthetics i have a special type of glue that can be used to attach the el wire to the prosthetic. As for the costume im kinda leery of el wire it tends to be a bit more finicky than LEDs. i also like the LEDs for the fact that they are a bit brighter. i would love to use el tape/ panel but im thinking that might be a lil out of my price range. idk lol havent ordered anything yet so it could change by the end of the holidays which is when i plan on starting my costume.

If you can pull that off rinzle, I think that's gonna look awesome! Your whole costume concept is great! I can't wait to see what you come up with! I like the idea of EL wire on the face, if it can be done. That was a concept I too thought about shortly after TRON: Legacy came out. I think it's cool that you're attempting it. I will be following your progress with great interest.

One concern that you might consider is facial movement possibly dislodging the EL wire. Where you have the EL wire located in your concept drawing might prove difficult as there could potentially be a lot of skin movement, such as raising your eyebrows, your cheeks rising as you smile, skin tightening if you squint, or maybe even cheek movement when talking. From what I understand, EL wire isn't too forgiving when movement is involved. But then again, it may be such slight movement that it won't affect the stability of the EL wire staying put at all. Just something to think about and maybe test out.

Good luck on your costume! I look forward to seeing your progress. Have fun! :)

yup already taking that into consideration. thats why i said its a concept my face isnt that narrow lol. it will be above the eye brow and more in the middle of the temple and not as close to the mouth.

My Jam just came up in pandora Rinzler by Kaskade from the Tron: Legacy Reconfigured soundtrack :) just made my work shift so much better.

@rinzle: Ah, alright then. For the costume I would go with LED's then. EL tape can get expensive.

HooDooMan1 said what I was trying to say as far as the EL wire goes. I tried using it on my hands and the wires wore out quickly.

As for the wig I think having a single color would look better, but it's really all up to you. And for the costume I like both of the looks shown. I think having too much black may make details less noticeable, so I (personally) would go with grey. Again, it's all up to you and your tastes.

ive been thinking about maybe doing a very angular prostetic piece but paint the channel black (derezzed) and find some reflective tape (hopefully find it in green) and cut it into tiny pieces and attach that to the prosthetic if the el wire thing doesnt pan out. that way when i move it looks like its sparking.http://www.amazon.com/Brads-Reflective-Tape-Green-Prism/dp/B007SQ0L12/ref=sr_1_fed0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1353575834&sr=8-2&keywords=reflective+tape+green Wig wise its hard for me cause i have a very dominant widows peak ( i hide it with a side part) so i need to go with a wig that has a bang of some sort i was thinking dark green medium length so it doesnt obscure the details on the costume

That sounds good. C:

Ah I see. Then I think the idea you have would work. Especially if you go with the all black costume. As I said before, too much black (both with the costume and wig) would be a bit much; obscure details and just be a black mass. Having the dark green wig with the black would make it quite the statement piece, if that makes sense.

this is the bodysuit i would like to use underneath the coat piece Black Bodysuit | Spandex Lycra Catsuit without Hood - $32.00. I like the texture of it i cant seem to find anything like it in a dark gray though which is a bummer. I might just have to buy the fabric and attach it somehow without ruining the catsuit

If you do buy it, please tell how it goes and the options you choose (does the original come with a back zipper? It doesn't say), i might end up buying the same catsuit for my Mara cosplay =)

I think its an extra fee to have it done that way idk as far as I know this is a front zipper u can always email them to find out if it can be done.

anyway i think i might go silver contacts and a silver wig still no idea what fabric im making the coat out of though any suggestions would be appreciated
