Tron Legacy Costume

perhaps something like this?

I just wrote and asked if this Bright White Glow in the Dark paint glows bright continously for 46 hours. That is what it states on their website which sounds too good to be true. I will let you all know what they say. If this paint at least glows for a few hours. I am so going with this and painting over my reflective tape and forgetting the lights for my Quorra costume. They have BLUEs too if you all want to go with blue instead of the white.

Dear Annisse, It looks like the same polymers in the EL tape is the same in these paints. The paints look identical to the EL tape painted on. I think that in TRON they needed it to look better for the cameras. Look at the 7 minute clip on you tube. Type Tron Legacy footage. It's shows the most I've seen from the costumes. I'm trying to find a good white tape to stick on the outfit. But from the video on YOUTUBE. It's a combo of EL wire & EL tape look closly at the Guards in red. If it's any consolation If you were to wire your outfit you might get a good shock. I can imagine some fool spilling a drink on me & getting a good Shock.

I'm using reflective tape for the most part, but gluing ( or sewing or clear taping ) the el wire on top. I'm not too concerned with shocks... I hear as long as you seal off any clipped parts, it's fine. They sell those stick man costumes like crazy now so it's obviously not a huge concern.

I'm using one wire for the legs, the box on the outside of the left boot will be the battery pack for that one. Up the left leg and down the right and trim off the end. Anything sewn underneath the costume I'm wrapping in black electrical tape to hide it and for safety. I'll have one thicker wire for the wider side of light on the chest plate, and a thinner for the other, which will be long enough for the back pieces too. And I'm hoping to use one wire down one arm, back up and across the back down the other. And gathering all the battery boxes into one main one in the back.

It SOUNDS easy... and it's working out in my head just fine... but we'll see what actually happens when the wire gets here. >_>

Again, I can't really complain if it doesn't work out since it was so cheap. :) I'm sure I'll be able to use at least some of it if not in all the places I wanted light.

I really hope that White Glow paint comes thru for me. I have SOOOO many other projects I want to work on and the thought of trying to run all that lighting into my Quorra costume and trying to figure out what goes where, etc. etc. sounds like a nightmare to me.

aelynn000 - forgot to tell you, I LOVE LOVE your baton flashlight idea if we go with the glow paint, to refresh and brighten the GLOW effect of the paint when it starts running low, your baton flashlight idea is genius! I am going to the 99 cent store getting a flashlight and fashion my baton now ;)

I found those also. But only in shorts. I want pants. I looked on amazon.com but everything that looks cool is over $100.00 Dollars.
Any other suggestions?

the catalogue I bought the pressure suits have pants as well, but, for some reason they only show the shorts online. :confused

Dear Annisse, The TRON Baton Has a small chamber for the Light cycle on one end. For those who bought it like I did you could fit a small LED Flash Light. LED's are the Way To GO! Good idea!:lol

Ohhhh nice! I will keep that in mind, thanks. Oh and by the way, can you measure the baton please? Is it as long as someone told me it was? Seemed kinda strange, I couldn't believe it was that long, like it will take up your entire lower calf from knew to ankle bone.

Just wanted to share a few shots from my shoot I had with my Quorra costume in Downtown LA the other night.

If you go with reflective tape, just know your photographer will have to play with the camera settings to get your costume, the reflective tape and the location to come out just right.

It' about 15 inches long. and almost 2 inches wide! Hope this helps.

Okay, I know this is a far left turn from the general consensus, but has anyone considered LED ribbon? I know it isn't a continuous glow like EL tape. However, someone earlier in the thread was using clear vinyl and spray to diffuse EL wire to make it appear like a continuous strip. Could the same be done with the LED ribbon to make it look continuous?

I looked into that But you'll look like a Christmas tree. It's not one solid strip. Think of the AUDI car headlights.

I know they have that dotted effect, but I was wondering if there was any way to diffuse it with clear vinyl to make it appear like a solid strip.

leds in general have diffusion issues.

for example, green tech for years now has been trying to make affordable diffused led bulb replacements. the current ones are very expensive and don't spread as well as incandescent or fluorescent.

and, as another example, neon/ plasma under car glowing kits are better for a more diffused glow versus led ones. more leds are needed to prevent that spotty look.

i would think that diffusing it on a suit will show light source spots on the costume.

while on the subject of alternatives to electroluminescent, has anybody have some familiarity with fiber optic tape aka light tape? i'm not that familiar with it but it might be worth investigating:

Side Emitting Fiber Optic Tape

one idea would be to get white fiber optic tape and use 1 blue layer to serve as a gel and a second top white layer as a diffuser and so that the suit would look white until lit... hmmm.

fwiw, this one is selling 1/4" x 10 feet roll of blue green el tape for $40.
